Book Seed Production Technology of Bitter Gourd

Download or read book Seed Production Technology of Bitter Gourd written by Katagi Abhishek and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2015-05-27 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bitter gourd is the most important cucurbitaceous vegetable crop widely cultivated in Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala and Karnataka States. It is an important pharma-nutraceutical vegetable crop grown for fleshy fruits in tropical and sub-tropical regions. Production of genetically and physically pure seed at higher quantity and its preservation till the next sowing season in bitter gourd is a prerequisite requirement. Since, it involves seed production techniques like application of appropriate nutrition's and growth regulators to achieve desirable seed yield with quality. Appropriate stages of harvest and drying techniques are essential to obtain quality seeds. To tackle these problems, an investigation was carried out on seed production and post-harvest technique in bitter gourd. The findings obtained from these investigations are summarised in this book.

Book Morpho Physiological Effect of Gibberellic Acid on Bitter Gourd

Download or read book Morpho Physiological Effect of Gibberellic Acid on Bitter Gourd written by Asma Shahzad and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-03 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The improve in growth of plants is important in present day life, where food - and its quality- often falls short. With the steady population growth, it is certainly important to ensure plants used for food and otherwise are grown in optimum conditions and have a high yield. This book covers a study conducted to evaluate the growth response of the bitter gourd plant Momordica charantia to growth regulator treatments of the hormone Gibberellic acid to determine the optimum concentration required for enhanced growth. Gibberellin increases both cell elongation and cell division, as evidenced by increases in cell length and cell number in response to applications of GA. This book should help the botanists and agriculturists around the world to observe the best growth in plants and serve as an example for future publications that also focus on plant growth regulators.

Book Edible Insects

Download or read book Edible Insects written by Arnold van Huis and published by Bright Sparks. This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Edible insects have always been a part of human diets, but in some societies there remains a degree of disdain and disgust for their consumption. Although the majority of consumed insects are gathered in forest habitats, mass-rearing systems are being developed in many countries. Insects offer a significant opportunity to merge traditional knowledge and modern science to improve human food security worldwide. This publication describes the contribution of insects to food security and examines future prospects for raising insects at a commercial scale to improve food and feed production, diversify diets, and support livelihoods in both developing and developed countries. It shows the many traditional and potential new uses of insects for direct human consumption and the opportunities for and constraints to farming them for food and feed. It examines the body of research on issues such as insect nutrition and food safety, the use of insects as animal feed, and the processing and preservation of insects and their products. It highlights the need to develop a regulatory framework to govern the use of insects for food security. And it presents case studies and examples from around the world. Edible insects are a promising alternative to the conventional production of meat, either for direct human consumption or for indirect use as feedstock. To fully realise this potential, much work needs to be done by a wide range of stakeholders. This publication will boost awareness of the many valuable roles that insects play in sustaining nature and human life, and it will stimulate debate on the expansion of the use of insects as food and feed.
