Book Effect of Annealing Conditions on the Structural and Superconducting Properties of Y Ba Cu O Films

Download or read book Effect of Annealing Conditions on the Structural and Superconducting Properties of Y Ba Cu O Films written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effect of various annealing treatments on ion beam sputter- deposited Y1Ba2CuyO(7-x)(y=3 and 5) amorphous thin films has been studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction and dc resistivity measurements. SEM analysis showed that the morphology of the films were clearly divided into three categories: an equiaxial grain structure, a well-oriented grid-like microstructure and a textured platelet structure. The equiaxial grain structure (random orientation according to X-ray diffraction measurements) was obtained when the film was annealed at slow heating and cooling rates in an oxygen atomosphere. The grid-like microstructure (b/c-axes oriented normal to the plane) was obtained in Cu-rich composition (y=5) by rapid thermal annealing. A textured platelet microstructure (c-axis oriented normal to the plane) was obtained using slow heating rates and by carefully controlling the gas environment at the temperature region near the orthorhombic-tetragonal transition. Thus, we have demonstrated the ability to control the morphology and orientation of the film by varying the annealing process.

Book Optical Properties of Annealed Tin II Oxide in Different Ambients

Download or read book Optical Properties of Annealed Tin II Oxide in Different Ambients written by R. Sivaramasubramaniam and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The films were annealed in either O2 or N2 atmosphere for one-hour at various temperature between 250-400 C. It was found that the film was quite stable until about 400 C, beyond which the optical band gap reduces to 2.7eV (in N2 atmosphere) and increases to 3.4eV(in O2 atmosphere). [Authors' abstract].

Book Ultra High Temperature Ceramics

Download or read book Ultra High Temperature Ceramics written by William G. Fahrenholtz and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-10-10 with total page 601 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first comprehensive book to focus on ultra-high temperature ceramic materials in more than 20 years Ultra-High Temperature Ceramics are a family of compounds that display an unusual combination of properties, including extremely high melting temperatures (>3000°C), high hardness, and good chemical stability and strength at high temperatures. Typical UHTC materials are the carbides, nitrides, and borides of transition metals, but the Group IV compounds (Ti, Zr, Hf) plus TaC are generally considered to be the main focus of research due to the superior melting temperatures and stable high-melting temperature oxide that forms in situ. Rather than focusing on the latest scientific results, Ultra-High Temperature Ceramics: Materials for Extreme Environment Applications broadly and critically combines the historical aspects and the state-of-the-art on the processing, densification, properties, and performance of boride and carbide ceramics. In reviewing the historic studies and recent progress in the field, Ultra-High Temperature Ceramics: Materials for Extreme Environment Applications provides: Original reviews of research conducted in the 1960s and 70s Content on electronic structure, synthesis, powder processing, densification, property measurement, and characterization of boride and carbide ceramics. Emphasis on materials for hypersonic aerospace applications such as wing leading edges and propulsion components for vehicles traveling faster than Mach 5 Information on materials used in the extreme environments associated with high speed cutting tools and nuclear power generation Contributions are based on presentations by leading research groups at the conference "Ultra-High Temperature Ceramics: Materials for Extreme Environment Applications II" held May 13-19, 2012 in Hernstein, Austria. Bringing together disparate researchers from academia, government, and industry in a singular forum, the meeting cultivated didactic discussions and efforts between bench researchers, designers and engineers in assaying results in a broader context and moving the technology forward toward near- and long-term use. This book is useful for furnace manufacturers, aerospace manufacturers that may be pursuing hypersonic technology, researchers studying any aspect of boride and carbide ceramics, and practitioners of high-temperature structural ceramics.

Book Nonstoichiometric Oxides

Download or read book Nonstoichiometric Oxides written by O.T. Soerensen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonstoichiometric Oxides discusses the thermodynamic and structural studies of nonstoichiometric oxides. This eight-chapter text also covers the defect-defect interactions in these compounds. The introductory chapters describe the thermodynamic properties of nonstoichiometric oxides in terms of defect complexes using the classical thermodynamic principles and from a statistical thermodynamics point of view. These chapters also include statistical thermodynamic models that indicate the ordered nonstoichiometric phase range in these oxides. The subsequent chapters examine the transport properties, such as diffusion and electrical conductivity. Diffusion theories and experimental diffusion coefficients for several systems, as well as the electrical properties of the highly defective ionic and mixed oxide conductor, are specifically tackled in these chapters. The concluding chapters present the pertinent results obtained in nonstoichiometric oxide structural studies using high-resolution electron microscopy and X-ray and neutron diffraction. Inorganic chemists and inorganic chemistry teachers and students will greatly appreciate this book.
