Book The Effect of Mixing Water Temperature on Concrete Properties in Hot Weather Conditions

Download or read book The Effect of Mixing Water Temperature on Concrete Properties in Hot Weather Conditions written by Mennatallah Amr Assal and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Environmental factors and hot weather conditions can drastically impact the properties, strength and durability of concrete structures. Whereby, higher slump loss rate, faster hydration with accelerated setting, reduced long term compressive strength and plastic shrinkage are more common. Literature review on the impact of hot weather on concrete is not sufficiently elaborated and at the same time majority of studies focused on curing temperature on overall concrete quality, however sufficient research on the effect of casting temperature on the concrete itself and its materials is lacking. This study is carried out to investigate the direct impact of mixing water temperature and concrete temperature on the concrete properties serving in hot weather conditions, with special emphasis to the Egyptian hot climate throughout the year. Thus, the scope of this work is to study mixing water temperature’s impact on concrete properties being a key ingredient to the concrete mix, with direct impact on workability, strength and durability. The feasibility of cooling water as a remedial action in hot climate is covered for various project sizes. To achieve the work objective, four categories of concrete mixtures with various cement contents and admixtures were studied while changing the mixing water temperature at 5, 25 and 45 ̊C to yield a total 12 different test sets. All other concrete ingredients were heated to 45 ̊C ahead of mixing to simulate hot weather conditions. Two sets of results were analyzed starting with fresh concrete tests of slump, unit weight and concrete temperature; in addition to hardened concrete tests of compressive and flexural strengths. Results showed an average 15% increase in the 28 days concrete compressive strength and enhanced workability in 5 ̊C temperature water Vs. 45 ̊C suggesting the strong impact of water temperature on concrete properties and need to add cool mixing water to concrete cast in hot weather conditions. Recommendations are provided towards the incorporation of cold water in concrete with a market feasibility conducted to study the technical and economic aspects resulting in up to 9% reduction in concrete cost with cold mixing water incorporated.

Book Effect of Casting and Curing Water Temperature on Concrete Properties

Download or read book Effect of Casting and Curing Water Temperature on Concrete Properties written by Sivakumar Naganathan and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-09-30 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the investigation done on the effect of water temperatures on concrete properties. Water is an essential ingredient in concrete. The temperature of water changes according to the weather. This creates special challenges in the concrete production especially at hot climatic. Hence, there are more obstacles to overcome when using hot water to produce concrete. The effect of water temperature during casting and curing of concrete on concrete properties have been studied. Concrete samples were prepared and cured under different water temperature and the properties of concrete tested. The tests include slump, compressive strength, rebound hammer, UPV, and water absorption. From the analysis of test results, it was found that higher water temperature used during concrete mixing reduced the overall strength and other properties of concrete. Addition of hot water while mixing leads to further the defects and failure in the hardened state at 28 days, but high early strength. It is concluded that concrete should be prepared by using the water temperature in the range between 20 C to 35 C under room temperature in order to get optimum performance."

Book Compressive Strength of Concrete

Download or read book Compressive Strength of Concrete written by Pavel Krivenko and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-03-11 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concrete made using mineral cements, the raw materials which on earth are practically endless, is known as one of the oldest building materials and during the last decades of the twentieth century has become a dominant building material for general use. At the same time, the requirements of the quality of concrete and its performance properties, in particular compressive strength, durability, economical efficiency, and low negative impact of its manufacture on the environment have not yet been completely met. Bearing these requirements in mind, researchers and engineers worldwide are working on how to satisfy these requirements. This book has been written by researchers and experts in the field and provides the state of the art on recent progress achieved on the properties of concrete, including concrete in which industrial by-products are utilized. The book is dedicated to graduate students, researchers, and practicing engineers in related fields.

Book Effect of Curing Condition on the Wear and Strength of Concrete Classic Reprint

Download or read book Effect of Curing Condition on the Wear and Strength of Concrete Classic Reprint written by Duff An. Abrams and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-11-07 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Effect of Curing Condition on the Wear and Strength of Concrete The necessity for careful restriction on the quantity of mixing water used in concrete, and the importance of proper curing conditions during the period of setting and hardening are not generally appreciated by engineers and contractors doing concrete work. In view of the wide spread use oi concrete in the construction of pavements, oors, loading platforms, and in other places requiring high strength and resistance to abrasion, it seemed desirable to carry out an experimental study which would bring out the effect Of water content and curing conditions on the compressive strength and the wearing resistance of concrete, and the relation between these two properties. These tests were made as a part of the experimental studies of the properties of concrete and concrete materials, being carried out through the co - operation of Lewis Institute and the Portland Cement Association at the Structural Materials Research Laboratory, Lewis Institute, Chicago.
