Book Soil Mechanics

Download or read book Soil Mechanics written by T. William Lambe and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1991-01-15 with total page 581 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The classic, comprehensive guide to the physics of soil The physical behavior of soil under different environmental conditions impacts public safety on every roadway and in every structure; a deep understanding of soil mechanics is therefore an essential component to any engineering education. Soil Mechanics offers in-depth information on the behavior of soil under wet, dry, or transiently wet conditions, with detailed explanations of stress, strain, shear, loading, permeability, flow, improvement, and more. Comprehensive in scope, this book provides accessible coverage of a critical topic, providing the background aspiring engineers will need throughout their careers.

Download or read book Deep Sea Sediments written by Anton Inderbitzen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As part of its continuing program to stimulate superior basic research in the marine environment, the Office of Naval Research, Ocean Science and Technology Division, sponsored a series of closed seminar-workshops in 1972-1973. Each seminar focused upon one re search area of marine geology which is relatively new and in need of a critical evaluation and accelerated support. The subjects areas chosen for the seminars were: 1. natural gases in marine sediments and their mode of distribution, 2. nephelometry and the optical properties of ocean waters, 3. physical and engineering properties of deep-sea sediments, and 4. physics of sound in marine sediments. The objectives of each seminar-workshop were to bring into sharper focus the state-of-the-science within each subject area, to effect some degree of coordination among the investigators working within each of these areas and to provide the Ocean Science and Technology Division guidance for national program support. This volume.contains most of the papers presented at the semi nar on the physical and engineering properties of deep-sea sediments. The seminar was held at Airlie House, Airlie, Virginia on April 24- 27, 1973 and was organized and chaired by A. Inderbitzen. The at tendees were invited from among the leading investigators in this field from both the engineering and scientific disciplines. Each attendee was requested to prepare a paper within his area of spe ciality.

Book Soft Soil Engineering

Download or read book Soft Soil Engineering written by Dave H. Chan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-09-28 with total page 808 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soft soils present particular challenges to engineers and an understanding of the specific characteristics of these soils is indispensable. Laboratory techniques such as numerical modelling, theoretical analysis and constitutive modelling give new insights into soft soil material behaviour, while large-scale testing in the field provides important information in areas such as slope stability and soft soil improvements. This collection of papers from the Fourth International Conference on Soft Soil Engineering, Vancouver, 2006, presents an international appraisal of current research and new advances in engineering practices, illustrating the theory with relevant case studies. Geotechnical professionals, engineers, academics and researchers working in the areas of soft ground engineering and soft soil engineering will find this a valuable book.
