Book The Dynamics of Policy Implementation in Nigeria

Download or read book The Dynamics of Policy Implementation in Nigeria written by Mohammad Ahmad Wali and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2010-08 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Dynamics of Policy Implementation in Nigeria, author Mohammad Ahmad Wali examines the implementation of public policy in Nigeria with an emphasis on Sokoto State from 1976 to 1991, from the perspective of an insider. Thoroughly documented and researched, The Dynamics of Policy Implementation in Nigeria first dissects the explanations provided for both the success and failure of the government's efforts at moving policy forward. Wali specifically investigates the Operation Move Ahead education policy that has failed to achieve its objectives. A comprehensive presentation of the region's history, religion, politics, and socioeconomic structure provides the background from which to analyze the issues. With charts and diagrams, Wali discusses the four main obstacles to implementation in the Sokoto State bureaucracy: governmental instability, governmental overload, socioeconomic problems, and the infrastructural inadequacies confronting policy implementers. The crucial role of implementation analysis is to identify the factors which affect the achievement of policy objectives.

Book Research on the Influences of Educational Policy on Teaching and Learning

Download or read book Research on the Influences of Educational Policy on Teaching and Learning written by Cynthia S Sunal and published by IAP. This book was released on 2013-07-01 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 14 chapters in this book address education policy as it is being implemented in three world regions, Africa, the Caribbean, and the Middle East. The diverse authors utilize original local data, interpreting it to describe policy development and implementation across a range of nations who share commonalities but also differences. The chapters begin with the premise that policy must respond to the needs of the citizenry and to the challenges faced by each society internally as well as globally. Meeting the challenge of frequently competing existing needs while addressing educational development to prepare for future needs, is an ongoing task for policymakers. The researchers authoring the book’s chapters are aware of competing challenges and of the need for frequent revision of educational policy as well as continuing support for its implementation. They base their conclusions and the implications offered on the data while taking into account the culture within which successful and appropriate policy must be implemented. The implications have relevance for any society in the world as diversity exists everywhere so all societies are experiencing challenges generated by our interdependence with each other.

Book History of Education in Nigeria

Download or read book History of Education in Nigeria written by A. Babs Fafunwa and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1974, a comprehensive history of Nigerian Education, from early times right through to the time of publication, had long been needed by all concerned with Education in Nigeria, students, teachers and educational administrators. No one was better qualified than Professor Fafunwa to provide such a book, and in doing so he gave due emphasis to the beginnings of Education in its three main stages of indigenous, Muslim and Christian Education. Nigerian Education had been considered all too often as a comparatively recent phenomenon, but this book points out from the start that ‘Education is as old as Man himself in Africa’ and that both Islam and Christianity were comparative newcomers in the field. A historical treatment of these three strands which have combined to make up the modern Educational system was vital to a clear understanding of what was needed for the future, and most of the first half of the book is concerned with these Educational beginnings. The imposing of a foreign colonial system on this framework did not always lead to a happy fusion of the systems, and the successes and the failures are examined in detail. There was no shortage of documentary evidence in the form of reports and statistics during the decades prior to publication, but this evidence was frequently scattered and inaccessible to the student, so that the author’s careful selection of key evidence and reports, often drawn from his own personal experience, will be invaluable for those wishing to trace the development of Education in Nigeria up to the early 1970s. A knowledge of the history and development of the Nigerian Education system, of the numerous and intensely varied personalities and beliefs which have combined and often conflicted to shape it, is indispensable to all students in colleges and universities studying to become teachers. It is this knowledge that Professor Fafunwa set out to provide, drawing on his wide experience as teacher writer and educationalist.

Book Higher Education Policy and Institutional Change

Download or read book Higher Education Policy and Institutional Change written by Paul Trowler and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-07-29 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As its title suggests, the subject matter of this edited collection is higher education policy, institutional change and the ways in which they inter-relate. It does not, however, see policy and policy-making as distinct from or 'above' processes of implementation and change, located only in formal settings of policy design or strategy formulation. Instead it draws on a model of policy-making and implementation which acknowledges that policy is made in ways other than in formal settings of government or Vice-Chancellors' offices and which sees 'implementation' processes as essentially creative – and therefore also part of the policy-making process.

Book Language Literacy and Learning in Primary Schools

Download or read book Language Literacy and Learning in Primary Schools written by Olatunde A. Adekola and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2007 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Language, Literacy, and Learning in Primary Schools is a synthesis of the findings arising from four years of policy research and development in Nigeria's primary schools that focused on the gap between what teachers should know and be able to do, and the realities of teaching and learning in classrooms. It begins by critically examining the outcomes of primary schooling as measured by learning achievement results from national assessments, and by identifying some core learning problems for Nigerian primary school children. It reviews the findings from recent research reports that studied teaching and learning processes in primary school classrooms, and it identifies the pedagogical issues in primary classrooms that contribute to poor learning achievements. This report describes a research and development program that set out to improve teaching and learning in core learning skill areas of the curriculum. This study identifies priority areas for teachers' professional development. It suggests a policy framework for the continuing professional development of primary school teachers, including the initial preparation of teachers and their induction into teaching. It proposes medium and long-term strategies to bring about the desired changes in teaching and learning through school-based approaches to teacher development.
