Book excerpt: The International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) selected three areas of inquiry as its focal concerns for the years 1984-1989. The first of these centered on the influences on each other of education and technological development, and on the implications of these mutual influences for educational planning on a national scale, particularly in a world in which technological and scientific knowledge and powers are not equally distributed among nations. The second concern was to reassess the role of educational planning in light of the growing realization that education is a societywide process not limited to the activities of formal institutions. The third focal point was the interrelationship among education, the educational planner, and political decision-makers--an inquiry into the tasks and functions of educational planning itself. All three themes involve assessment of the fundamental relevance of educational planning to society in general. These three topics were made the subjects of the IIEP's October 1983 seminar. This document presents the paper that proposed the three central topics to the seminar participants, summary reports on the deliberations of the three working groups that met at the seminar, and reflections on the implications of the seminar's presentations and discussions. Book The Prospects for Educational Planning

Download or read book The Prospects for Educational Planning written by International Institute for Educational Planning and published by Unesco. This book was released on 1989 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In late 1988, on the occasion of its 25th anniversary celebration, the International Institute for Educational Planning organized an international workshop to review the major problems faced by education today and to consider the future of educational planning worldwide. The workshop brought together researchers, planners, and specialists from all ideological, political, and geographical horizons to tackle topics such as the influence of economic and social change on education, educational finance difficulties, declining educational quality, preparation for employment, educational management issues, and educational planning prospects. This volume includes a selection of workshop papers, including a "Synthesis Report of the Workshop" (Francoise Caillods); "The Economic and Socio-Cultural Situation in Socialist Countries with Particular Emphasis on the USSR" (George Skorov); "The Financing of Education: Impact of the Crisis and the Adjustment Process" (Claude Tibi); "Teaching and Learning Conditions in Developing Countries" (Francoise Caillods and T. Neville Postlethwaite); "Universities and Development in Africa: Problems and Challenges for Planning" (Miala Diambomba); "Education, Work, and Employment: Present Issues and Future Challenges in Developed Countries" (Henry M. Levin and Russell W. Rumberger; "The Economics of Education: A More Than Slightly Jaundiced View of Where We Are Now" (Steven J. Klees); "The Role of the State in Education" (Juan Carlos Tedesco); and "Does Education Need Strategic Planning?" (Sylvain Lourie). Each chapter is followed by numerous bibliographic references. Appendices contain lists of participants and of 25th anniversary booklets. (MLH)

Book Educational Planning and Social Change

Download or read book Educational Planning and Social Change written by International Institute for Educational Planning and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some of the assumptions on which earlier models and approaches in educational planning were predicated have turned out to be over-simplistic, limited, or altogether not appropriate for the complex nature of the development process in many developed and, especially, underdeveloped societies. Recognizing these problems, the International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) brought together a number of researchers, policy-makers, and planners from all parts of the world for a week of reflection and discussion on the past, present, and future of educational planning. This volume is a synthesis of the main results of this international forum, and it attempts to delineate the tasks for educational planning in the coming years. Chapters contain the texts of five background papers, with comments by IIEP staff members; the edited versions of the reports of the three working groups; and a synthesis of the seminar discussions divided into five broad topics that reflect the convergence of discussion. The last chapter reviews some of the observations made at the seminar on research and training needs in educational planning. A paper, "Schooling and Future Society" by Johan Galtung, is included as an appendix. Seminar participants are listed. (Author/MLF)

Book excerpt: It was in a context of unprecedented economic growth that educational planning developed in the 1960s. At the time, educational planners were entrusted with orchestrating the tremendous expansion of schooling, with the aim of both universalizing education and providing national economies with the qualified manpower needed. Such rigid mandatory planning is not suited to today's world, but other forms of planning such as policy analysis, policy dialog, labor market analysis, and strategic management are still valid. The following is a complete list of reprinted essays collected for this book.

Book Directions in Educational Planning

Download or read book Directions in Educational Planning written by Mark Bray and published by United Nations Education, Scientific & Cultural Organization. This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nature of educational planning has evolved significantly during the past few decades. For many years, it generally relied on grand models focusing on macro-planning. Today, the field is increasingly defined by decentralized approaches, non-government funding, and cross-national forces in the context of globalization. IIEP has played a lead role in contributing to conceptual issues, developing methodologies, and facilitating capacity development. In 2008, the Institute organized a symposium to discuss the changing context and content of educational planning, reflecting on continuities and changes in the past and looking ahead to the future. This publication is based on selected papers presented at the symposium.
