Download or read book Planning and Management in Distance Education written by Santosh Panda and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2003-12-16 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Online distance education and training is being adopted throughout the world as a cost-effective, flexible answer to widening access for all. This enthusiasm has led to many initiatives and policies from governments to encourage online learning at international, national, regional and institutional levels. Also, changes in distance learning continue to take place as a result of educational discourse and innovations in ICT. Distance learning courses are therefore under pressure to reform, and successful management of external policy planning and internal change management is key to the implementation and maintenance of reforms. World-class leaders, researchers and practitioners share their experiences, research and critical reflection in this book, providing guidance on how to balance quality management with quality learning. Subjects covered include policy and planning, institutional management, management of processes, quality assurance and accreditation, and internationalization. This book will aid anyone involved in running or wanting to implement distance education to effectively manage an online learning programme.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document provides a brief overview of the many aspects of educational planning. The first chapter discusses the history of planning, possible definitions of planning, needs for flexibility, continued evaluation, and communication in successful planning, and the value of planning to educational leadership. Chapter two reviews 14 planning models, including the Banghart-Trull Model, Kaufman's Educational System Planning, the Phi Delta Kappa Educational Planning Model, four state planning models, and seven school system planning models. Established management systems, tools, or techniques are identified in chapter 3. These include the planning-programming-budgeting system (PPBS), zero-based budgeting (ZBB), management by objectives (MBO), systems analysis, needs assessment, the Delphi technique, management information systems (MIS), forecasting, planning, evaluation, and review technique (PERT), operations research, and checklists. The fourth chapter describes the seven steps in the process of planning. In the fifth and concluding chapter, the author urges awareness of the individual nature of any situation requiring planning and argues that, like other management practices, planning as such is not dehumanizing, but can be used humanely or not depending on the attitudes, interests, and intentions of the planners. Book Planning and Managing School Facilities

Download or read book Planning and Managing School Facilities written by Theodore Kowalski and published by Praeger. This book was released on 2002 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nearly half of the nation's school buildings need to be renovated or replaced. This book provides a knowledge base for administrators to plan and manage construction projects, and addresses specific planning tasks including public opinion polling, enrollment projections, financial planning, selecting architects and other professionals, and managing facilities once they are operational. Theodore Kowalski addresses the administrative procedures associated with planning and managing school facilities. As noted at the outset, practitioner interest in school facilities has been growing rapidly in recent years because decades of neglect, poor planning, and cost cutting have created a situation in which large numbers of America's school buildings are in need of major repair or replacement. At the same time, the realization that costs related to repair and replacement have escalated significantly has fueled a new concern among school facility planning and management. Writing for school administrators, superintendents, and board members as well as graudate students in education, Kowalski discusses planning from the perspective of both individual facility projects and more comprehensive district-wide efforts. The responsibilities associated with administering school buildings are also approached from the individual school and district program perspectives. Part One of the book examines historical and contemporary perspectives of school facility planning. A systems perspective is provided for defining the adequacy of school buildings, and the effects of changing demographics, school reform, technology, and obsolescence are detailed. Various planning paradigms and needs assessment are the foci for Part Two. Part Three examines specific tasks related to completing a facility project. They include public opinion polling, securing professional services, and management responsibilities before, during, and after construction. Part Four includes these focused issues: planning elementary schools, planning secondary schools, doing enrollment projections, working with other agencies, choosing between renovation and new construction, financing capital outlay, and maintaining facilities once they become operational.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1986, The Planning and Management of Distance Education examines the problems faced by those who are setting up and managing distance education systems of various kinds. The book begins by considering definitions of distance education and various models which can be used to describe and understand distance education systems. The second chapter considers various general education models and relates these to distance education. The concepts introduced in the first two chapters form a background to the rest of the book. The next section looks at the aspirations of those setting up distance education systems, the economics and costs of such systems, and the process of planning a distance education system from scratch (chapters 3-5). Chapters 6-11 consider aspects of planning and management – organisation, staffing, planning, budgeting, the management of the academic processes related to materials development and the provision of local student services, production management (the management of materials production and distribution), operations management (the management of the delivery of student services) – and the impact of new technology on production and operations management, and finally, evaluation. The short concluding chapter draws together some of the themes running through the book.
