This book was released on 2004-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Disaster Resilience of Education Systems

Download or read book Disaster Resilience of Education Systems written by Koichi Shiwaku and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-02 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Education is regarded as a cross-cutting issue for disaster risk reduction (DRR) through reviewing the Sendai Framework for DRR (SFDRR) 2015–2030. Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in the education sector is one of the important efforts to enhance resilience in a community. DRR in the education sector not only focuses on provision of disaster education, but also includes securing a safe school environment, developing school disaster management plans, and building the capacity of school teachers and local educational officers. Japan, with its wealth of experience in DRR, has developed a good resilient system in its education sector, which has been tested and revised through experiences of past disasters. This book reviews the evolution of DRR in the education sector in Japan, including some of the recent developments after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, focusing on DRR governance and practices in national policies, curriculum development and teacher training, community linkage, and international cooperation, to enhance resilience in the education sector. The primary target groups for this book are students and researchers in the fields of disaster management and DRR studies. Another target group comprises practitioners and policy makers, who will be able to apply the collective knowledge from this work to policy and decision making. The book provides an overview of the current research trends and furnishes basic knowledge on this important topic.

Book Education and Natural Disasters

Download or read book Education and Natural Disasters written by David Smawfield and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2013-03-28 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the relationship between education and natural disasters? Can education play a role in ameliorating and mitigating them, preparing people in how to respond, and even helping to prevent them? If so, how? Drawing on research carried out in a number of different countries, including Australia, China, India, Japan, the UK and the USA, the contributors consider the role of education in relation to natural disasters. The case studies expand conceptual and empirical understandings of the understudied relationship between education and natural disasters and uncover the potential and the limitations of education for mitigating, responding to, and potentially preventing, natural disasters. The contributors also consider the extent to which so-called natural disasters, such as mudslides caused by deforestation and flooding areas built on known flood plains, are linked to human behaviour and how education can impact on these.

Book Education for Sustainable Development and Disaster Risk Reduction

Download or read book Education for Sustainable Development and Disaster Risk Reduction written by Rajib Shaw and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-06 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Disaster Risk Reduction Education (DRRE) have overlapping areas of concern focusing on strengthening the link to local communities. In reality, there is significant synergy in ESD and disaster risk reduction (DRR). Both concepts urge looking at the communities, both focus on behavior changes and both call for linking knowledge to action. The Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD) ends in 2014 and the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) ends in 2015. Therefore, at this junction, it is important to review the progress made over the past 10 years and to suggest future synergy options. This book is the first attempt to review these two emerging fields and to provide input to the future direction of education. The book has 11 chapters, drawing lessons mainly from Japan and discussing their implications for the world. The first four chapters provide an overview of the ESD–DRR linkage, ESD and its evolution, DRRE and Climate Change Education. These are followed by case studies from ESD practices in Japan, in schools, universities and communities. The primary target groups for this book are students and researchers in the fields of environment, disaster risk reduction and climate change studies. The book provides them with a good idea of the current research trends in the field and furnishes basic knowledge about these vital topics. Another target group comprises practitioners and policy makers, who will be able to apply the knowledge collected here to establishing policy and making decisions.

Book Disaster Management and Human Health Risk II

Download or read book Disaster Management and Human Health Risk II written by C. A. Brebbia and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increase in the number of large-scale natural disasters in recent years has been alarming.Major fl oods, hurricanes, earthquakes and many others have affected millions of people, with great destruction of property and loss of life, while forest fires, pipeline failures, and bombings have had equally devastating affects over a smaller scale. It is clear that future threats stem both from human failures and from terrorism, as well as from less predictable natural phenomena. The increased threats make the convening of the Second International Conference on Disaster Management and Human Health Risk important for the sharing of knowledge among experts on public health, security, and disaster management. This book contains their contributions to the conference. Topics covered will include Emergency preparedness; Risk mitigation; Natural disasters; Man-made disasters; Learning from disasters; Disaster analysis, monitoring and mitigation; Global risks and health; Pandemic and biological threats; Surveillance and early warning systems; Public health preparedness; Socio-economic issues; and Service sustainability.

Book Disaster Management

Download or read book Disaster Management written by Alejandro López-Carresi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-12 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a perennial gap between theory and practice, between academia and active professionals in the field of disaster management. This gap means that valuable lessons are not learned and people die or suffer as a result. This book opens a dialogue between theory and practice. It offers vital lessons to practitioners from scholarship on natural hazards, disaster risk management and reduction and developments studies, opening up new insights in accessible language with practical applications. It also offers to academics the insights of the enormous experience practitioners have accumulated, highlighting gaps in research and challenging assumptions and theories against the reality of experience. Disaster Management covers issues in all phases of the disaster cycle: preparedness, prevention, response and recovery. It also addresses cross-cutting issues including political, economic and social factors that influence differential vulnerability, and key areas of practice such as vulnerability mapping, early warning, infrastructure protection, emergency management, reconstruction, health care and education, and gender issues. The team of international authors combine their years of experience in research and the field to offer vital lessons for practitioners, academics and students alike.

Book Disaster Risk Management

Download or read book Disaster Risk Management written by Prof. Dr. Vladimir M. Cvetković and published by Babelcube Inc.. This book was released on 2024-04-22 with total page 978 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The textbook is intended for students of basic and master academic studies, as well as to a wider professional audience (members of the emergency services, etc.), who are increasingly faced with the need for a more thorough understanding of the problem of a multidisciplinary approach in the identification process, disaster risk analysis and treatment. The content of the textbook is in line with the curriculum of the subject “Disaster Risk Management”, which is taught in the third year of basic academic studies of the Faculty of Security. In the writing of the textbooks, great attention was paid to meeting high standards in terms of scientific and professional and pedagogical and didactic requirements, and extensive scientific and professional material of all relevant foreign and domestic authors was used. Besides, the author used a fair treasure trove of his scholarly and professional papers, which have been scientifically verified by numerous international and national reviewers. Also, the author incorporated most of his research findings in the country and abroad into the text of the textbook to enrich it with scientifically verified facts. Also, invaluable experience in working with students has helped to release the textbook from the additional scientific reflection that would make it difficult to acquire basic knowledge in the field of disaster risk management. The first edition of the textbook also has its limitations, which are reflected in the insufficient theoretical development of the scientific discipline, which is relatively young and should contribute to creating additional conditions for the construction of the theory. I would like to emphasize that the textbook represents the first such publication published in the Serbian language in our region, which will greatly improve the knowledge and professional competencies of the general professional public.
