It is also one of the most inadequately realised goals of development, with the average education of global adults remaining essentially at primary levels. Advancing Global Education is the second in a series of volumes that explores prospects for human development-how development appears to be unfolding globally and locally, how we would like it to evolve, and how better to assure that we move it in desired directions. The first volume addressed the reduction of global poverty. The third will turn to the enhancement of global health. Advancing Global Education presents the most extensive set of forecasts of global education participation and attainment levels to date-providing and exploring a massive, multi-issue database and proposing a scenario for accelerating educational attainment throughout major world regions and 183 countries.

Book Reimagining Development Education in Africa

Download or read book Reimagining Development Education in Africa written by Olivia Adwoa Tiwaah Frimpong Kwapong and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-06 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume uses an African-centred approach to examine a renewed vision of development education in Africa. The purpose of the volume is to supplant prevailing Western ideologies, traditions, and rhetoric in the development education discourse in Africa and to advocate for alternative paradigms, knowledges, beliefs, and practices through the effort of dialogue between competing orientations, values and experiences. The book argues that Africa's development challenges are uniquely African requiring indigenous African solutions. Consequently, this book offers an insightful collection of case studies and conceptual papers that examine how indigenous African knowledge, philosophies, traditions, beliefs, and values shape the theory and practice of development education in Africa. Reimagining Development Education in Africa exemplifies an interdisciplinary and multifaceted scholarship, addressing topical issues and advances in development education in Africa. The book discusses among other topics, Ubuntu-inspired education for sustainable development, decolonising African development education, Afrocentricity, Globalisation, and gender equality. This book is a must read for scholars and students interested in understanding indigenous educational efforts aimed at promoting sustained improvements in the quality of life of African peoples.

Book Building Teaching Capacities in Higher Education

Download or read book Building Teaching Capacities in Higher Education written by Alenoush Saroyan and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-07-03 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the culmination of three years’ work by teams from eight institutions in five different European and North American countries. The teams included faculty developers, professors, and graduate students interested in developing and disseminating a more profound understanding of university-level pedagogy. The purpose of the project was, first, to conceptualize what an internationally-appropriate, formal academic program for faculty development in higher education might look like, taking into account differing national contexts, from national standards for faculty development (U.K. and Scandinavia), almost universal institutional support (North America) to virtually no activities (France). The intention was to create and nurture a community of practice, enriched and informed by a range of expertise and different higher education traditions, cultures, and languages. To do so, the book begins with a section of five case studies that describe current practice in Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France and Switzerland. The second purpose was to define a common curriculum, or core course with common foundations, for faculty and graduate students, based on a distributed learning model. The final section of the book presents a concrete concept map used to define the curriculum, and to educational developers with useful tool for furthering their work, and explains the rationale for redefining faculty development as educational development. This book offers practitioners around the world a framework and model of educational development that can serve a number of purposes including professional development, monitoring and assessment of effectiveness, and research, as they seek to meet increasing demands for public accountability. For North American readers it offers insight into the vision and aims of the Bologna Process with which they may need to engage to maintain international competitiveness.
