The book explains how a small nation, placed in an unfavorable geopolitical situation, won its independence and eventually achieved a high material standard of living together with an enviable degree of social and political stability by adapting itself to the realities of life in an unpromising environment. Download or read book Entrepreneurial Education written by Kristiina Erkkilä and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2000 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The study finds that arguments supporting or opposing entrepreneurial education are highly contextual. According to the literature studied, entrepreneurship education is more directly focused upon small business and entrepreneurship, whereas enterprise education is aimed at the development of enterprising behavior, skills and attributes, not only for business use. Furthermore, debates on entrepreneurial education are more complex than shown in previous studies. The debate in the United States is more diverse and practice-driven than those are in the United Kingdom and Finland. In addition, the discourse of each country has unique categories." "The book includes suggestions for future research and gives recommendations particularly for Finnish practice, which could also benefit other societies just starting their path in entrepreneurial education. The study serves as a comprehensive literature source for future interests and research."--BOOK JACKET.

Download or read book Cancer Risk by Social Class and Occupation written by Eero I. Pukkala and published by Karger Medical and Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 1995 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study deals with the vexed question of what groups in the general population run the risk of developing cancer. Based on information provided by the highly-regarded Finnish Cancer Registry, the survey considers the incidence of cancers affecting as many as 46 parts of the body and their links with 335 occupational categories. By adjusting the occupation-specific risk ratios for social class, restricting their study to a particular age-group and applying the same criteria to women as to men, the author strives to make the relationship between cancers and certain occupations as clear as possible. His results are shown to correlate well with those obtained from specific studies of occupational cancer. Factors related to a person's occupation seem to determine some cancer risks, while the overall incidence and types of malignancy appear to be associated with the way of life of one's social class. Smoking, diet and reproductive factors are discussed from this viewpoint. Of interest for future research, new connections between disease and occupation are indicated in some contributions. Epidemiologists, oncologists, environmentalists and those working in preventive medicine as well as in occupational and public health will find much to interest them in this clearly organized book.

The significance of Finnish educational policy and societal atmosphere are continuously discussed. This book provides explanations, answers and reflections to these questions. Over 30 expert authors have contributed to this book by bringing their own specific research-based points of view. The second edition of the book introduces the new national curriculum for basic education that now provides guidelines for school-based curricula. Students’ learning with engagement and schools as learning communities are core visions of the reform. The authors also reflect on the PISA 2012 results. The book gives an example on how to use PISA information for national improvements. In Finland, all evaluations are enhancement-led and this also includes PISA measurements. The book illustrates how teaching and learning of different subjects is realized in Finnish schools and describes the essential characteristics and methods of teaching, learning materials and research on these issues. The book provides important insight and reflections to international researchers, teachers, students, journalists and policy makers, who are interested in teaching and learning in Finnish schools.
