Download or read book Education in England and Wales written by Franklin Parker and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1991, this title was begun just before passage of the Education Reform Act of 1988 (ERA 88), which was implemented in the 1990s. This major act along with still-in-force provisions of the 1944 Education Act (with its 17 amendments) comprises the statutes governing education in England and Wales. The study reflects both the criticism and the praise showered on that important legislation, particularly in the Brief History and School Structure sections, and in Chapter 1 with its longer than usual annotations on ERA 88.

Book The Training of Teachers in England and Wales Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Training of Teachers in England and Wales Classic Reprint written by Peter Sandiford and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-17 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Training of Teachers in England and Wales The purpose oi this study is to give a systematic and critical account of the training of teachers in England and Wales. The systems in vogue in Scotland and Ireland differ fundamentally from the English system and consequently fall outside the scope of this work. The study is the outcome of researches made dur ing the past two years in the Departments of Elementary Educa tion and of Educational Administration at Teachers College. To these researches have been added the practical knowledge, and experience gained as a lecturer in the Education Department of the University of Manchester - a day training college recognized under the regulations of the English Board of Education. A brief account of the administration of education in England and Wales has been given to serve as a background for the work. In addition, the history of the subject from Elizabethan times has been traced. Since the government is assuming responsibility for the training of secondary school teachers, art teachers, teachers of domestic arts and other subjects, a chapter dealing with these aspects of the problem has been introduced. The main portion of the work is, however, devoted to the description of the training and service of elementary school teachers. Book The Governance of Schooling

Download or read book The Governance of Schooling written by Margaret A. Arnott and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-11-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent reforms in the governance of schooling have affected roles, relationships and decision-making within schools and between them and the wider community. Using empirical and theoretical approaches this book describes, analyses and compares the effects of devolved management on secondary schools in a number of countries. It casts a critical light upon policy assumptions and aims, challenging assumptions about the way policy works in practice. Through a comparative international perspective, which looks at countries including the UK and the US, the conflicting options for school governance are addressed. These include: *parental participation and school management policy *professional, managerial and market principles in education *school-based decision-making and the implications of overarching government policies *devolution and centralisation. This is a timely study for practitioners in education, policy-makers in local and central government, academics and students of education policy and management.
