Book Education as the Driving Force of Equity for the Marginalized

Download or read book Education as the Driving Force of Equity for the Marginalized written by Boivin, Jacquelynne Anne and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2022-01-14 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the USA, racism is the most widespread root of oppression. Black people in America, specifically, have suffered from centuries of discrimination and still struggle to receive the same privileges as their white peers. In other countries, however, there are other groups that face similar struggles. Discrimination and oppression based on religion, ethnicity, socio-economic status, political affiliation, and caste are just a few categories. However, education is a root for widespread societal change, making it essential that educators and systems of education enact the changes that need to occur to achieve equity for the groups being oppressed. Education as the Driving Force of Equity for the Marginalized highlights international research from the past decade about the role education is playing in the disruption and dismantling of perpetuated systems of oppression. This research presents the context, ideas, and mechanics behind impactful efforts to dismantle systems of oppression. Covering topics such as teacher preparation, gender inequality, and social justice, this work is essential for teachers, policymakers, college students, education faculty, researchers, administrators, professors, and academicians.

Book Strategy of Education primary and Higher in Iraq

This book was released on 2015-05-29 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last few decades of war and sanctions, Iraq has suffered great losses in death and damages. Harm has not been inflicted only on persons, communities, communications, institutions and land; but equal and perhaps greater damage has been the outcome of the lost development opportunities: stagnated communities, uneducated children, adolescents and youth, neglected land, accelerating mortality rates, and the construction that did not take place. The nation has also witnessed an unprecedented devastation and a near-to-complete break-down of the education system. The prevailing state-of-affairs of higher education is disheartening and presents a virtual collapse: academic staff continues to leave for fear of mounting threats and insurgency, teaching being erratic and most buildings being damaged or destroyed. The education system is currently in a stage of profound rebuilding and restructuring particularly at a time when the demand for higher education system addressing the national needs and priorities comprehensively seems to be a source of much pressure. This mounting pressure is equally evident on Iraqi institutions and centres of knowledge to produce relevant and knowledge at an unparalleled rate. The diverse demands for qualified human resources of the complex national economy with evolving global links require knowledge and skills for decision-making and for production. The current efforts of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MHESR) and institutions of higher learning are in the midst of accelerating change, yet they have to grapple with profound processes of decision-making addressing issues such as: relevance (curricula reforms and accreditation); quality; scientific research; teachers' and students' welfare; technical and teachers' education; academic freedom; decentralization and institutional autonomy; long-term financial sustainability; and internationalization. Simultaneously, institutions of higher learning will also have as a goal to provide learners with academic and ethical values, as well as having the commitment to educate critical citizens prepared to engage in democratic participation. Change of the Iraqi higher education structure and of research is thus seated in an extremely complex reality, in which no self-evident choices are available and where actions have multiple effects in a dynamically interdependent environment.Yet the challenges Iraq faces cannot be solved with piecemeal changes ;but strong forces that will affect Iraqi society in the near future: economic reconstruction, population change, globalization and the rapid growth in knowledge. The situation must be met by a fundamental reorientation of higher education activities under a unified perspective (new vision). Providing this "new vision" and a "strategic plan" for specific and realistic short- and medium-term choices is the aim of this paper. The vision and the strategic plan have been formulated to help guide the initiatives of the MOHESR and to provide clear priorities for an efficient use of available resources.

Book E Learning in the Middle East and North Africa MENA Region

Download or read book E Learning in the Middle East and North Africa MENA Region written by Alan S. Weber and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-02-27 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last decade, due to factors of ICT infrastructural and broadband maturation, rising levels of educational attainment and computer literacy, and diversification strategies, e-learning has exploded in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. However, significant barriers remain in the region’s e-learning development: lack of research on outcomes and effectiveness, paucity of Arabic language learning objects, monopolies and high cost of telecommunications, cultural taboos, accreditation, censorship, and teacher training. This unique volume is the first comprehensive effort to describe the history, development, and current state of e-learning in each of the 20 MENA countries from Algeria to Yemen. Each entry is expertly written by a specialist who is acutely familiar with the state of e-learning in their respective country, and concludes with a bibliography of key reports, peer-reviewed books and articles, and web resources. E-Learning in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) proves itself as a vital compendium for a wide readership that includes academics and students, transnational program directors, international education experts, MENA government departments, commercial vendors and investors, and ICT development and regulatory agencies involved in e-learning in the Middle East.

Book Cultural Cleansing in Iraq

Download or read book Cultural Cleansing in Iraq written by Raymond W. Baker and published by Pluto Press. This book was released on 2010-01-15 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why did the invasion of Iraq result in cultural destruction and killings of intellectuals? Convention sees accidents of war and poor planning in a campaign to liberate Iraqis. The authors argue instead that the invasion aimed to dismantle the Iraqi state to remake it as a client regime. Post-invasion chaos created conditions under which the cultural foundations of the state could be undermined. The authors painstakingly document the consequences of the occupiers' willful inaction and worse, which led to the ravaging of one of the world's oldest recorded cultures. Targeted assassination of over 400 academics, kidnapping and the forced flight of thousands of doctors, lawyers, artists and other intellectuals add up to cultural cleansing. This important work lays to rest claims that the invasion aimed to free an educated population to develop its own culture of democracy.
