Book Edgycute

Download or read book Edgycute written by Harry Saylor and published by Mark Batty Publisher. This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The resurgence in the popularity of illustrative art can be attributed to an array of factors. Although the acceptance of graphic novels as something more than ?just comic books? has been established for quite some time, when McSweeney's released its all comics issue in 2004, the mainstream media's reaction elevated the medium, its words and images, to something beyond genre. As a result, such drawings and illustrations have found their ways into marketing campaigns, ads and galleries. While the work of individual artists varies greatly, much of it strikes an irresistible pose, whether viewers are staring at enlarged heads on distorted bodies or a shot-dead bird, its killer and a birdhouse both crying. The work is at once disturbing but oddly attractive. We here at MBP have dubbed this quality ?EdgyCute.'

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “It is not about provocation, reaction or even invocation, it is about transformation: mentally and physically.”—Marina Abramovic, artist “Art is subjective, and if one sees something in an image, that projection is a reflection of the spectator, who sees what he or she wants to see, whose critique is relevant to him or herself, exposing his or her own perversions.”—Irina Ionesco, artist Until the late twentieth century, women’s creative skills were relegated to craft and decorative arts, and valued only for utilitarian purposes in service to others and the manufacturing of products to benefit society. After enduring the great injustice of being denied the freedom that self-expression brings through art for the joy of the human spirit, Women of the Underground: Art celebrates those female cultural innovators who are creating new artwork that pushes boundaries, dares to question, and redefines the genres of mixed media; theater; film; photography; and visual, conceptual, and performance art. In this groundbreaking anthology that will inspire artists and everyone interested in alternatives to mainstream culture, as well as serve as a reference book for art historians, twenty-six female artists describe their ideas, beginnings, influences, and creative techniques. Contains interviews with Lady Pink, Marina Abramovic, Orlan, Aleksandra Mir, Penny Arcade, Johanna Went, the Guerrilla Girls, and many others. Editor Zora von Burden was born and raised in San Francisco, California. A frequent contributor to The San Francisco Herald, von Burden also wrote the screenplay for Geoff Cordner’s underground cult classic film, Hotel Hopscotch.

Book No You and No Me

Download or read book No You and No Me written by Rick Linchitz and published by Non-Duality Press. This book was released on 2011-09-01 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rick Linchitz, true to what he says in this book, has no investment in being a 'teacher' and has a busy medical practice. What he says, though, is the most direct expression of the truth beyond the truths of spirituality and religion. I wanted his plain speaking, rigorous and humorous approach to be available more widely. We have transcribed some of his talks and satsangs and arranged them under subject headings, rather than chronologically, so that you can read from cover to cover or dip in as you please for inspiration. I hope that, like me, you will feel the thrill of resonance that wells up inside when something within us recognizes the beautiful simplicity of The Loving Awareness in Which All Arises. Book Sagas of Adolescence Stories for Students

Download or read book Sagas of Adolescence Stories for Students written by SaSa Shaler and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2009-10-13 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My fascination with teenagers began when I was nine, and never entirely disappeared, even after living through the teens myself, even after having grown up enough to be thankful those years were behind me. My early influences undoubtedly contributed to this, as I grew up during the accent on youth culture of the late 1960s and the 1970s. Much of my continuing fascination with the tumultuous state of adolescence, the time of being neither a child nor an adult, is linked to my livelihood: I teach in an urban high school. Thus, I am surrounded by teens all the time. I am a natural storyteller, and when I decided to teach, I chose a graduate school program in which storytelling was highly respected and encouraged as a teaching tool. As a result, storytelling became an integral part of my teaching strategy. I have employed storytelling in every teaching position I have held. My nieces and nephews have looked forward to Aunt SaSa (myself) telling stories since they were tiny. Now the older ones are moving into adolescence. As a loving aunt, I want to be on the front lines of teaching them how to make good choices, and to keep themselves safe from bad influences. I have held teenage attention consistently by incorporating elements of my own adolescence into my stories. I have stressed that it is okay to make a mistake, because experience is the best, and the toughest, teacher. I follow with the sentiment, Try not to make the same mistake twice! I do deal in fiction; this is apparent to adults I grew up with who read my jaunty witticisms and follow the flawless judgment in my stories that they know for a fact I didnt have at that age! Yet, because there is a strong circle of love that exists for me, I know they will never give my young audience that word to the wise about SaSa!
