Download or read book Series Approximation Methods in Statistics written by John E. Kolassa and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was originally compiled for a course I taught at the University of Rochester in the fall of 1991, and is intended to give advanced graduate students in statistics an introduction to Edgeworth and saddlepoint approximations, and related techniques. Many other authors have also written monographs on this subject, and so this work is narrowly focused on two areas not recently discussed in theoretical text books. These areas are, first, a rigorous consideration of Edgeworth and saddlepoint expansion limit theorems, and second, a survey of the more recent developments in the field. In presenting expansion limit theorems I have drawn heavily 011 notation of McCullagh (1987) and on the theorems presented by Feller (1971) on Edgeworth expansions. For saddlepoint notation and results I relied most heavily on the many papers of Daniels, and a review paper by Reid (1988). Throughout this book I have tried to maintain consistent notation and to present theorems in such a way as to make a few theoretical results useful in as many contexts as possible. This was not only in order to present as many results with as few proofs as possible, but more importantly to show the interconnections between the various facets of asymptotic theory. Special attention is paid to regularity conditions. The reasons they are needed and the parts they play in the proofs are both highlighted.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of statistics not only affects all areas of scientific activity, but also many other matters such as public policy. It is branching rapidly into so many different subjects that a series of handbooks is the only way of comprehensively presenting the various aspects of statistical methodology, applications, and recent developments. The Handbook of Statistics is a series of self-contained reference books. Each volume is devoted to a particular topic in statistics, with Volume 30 dealing with time series. The series is addressed to the entire community of statisticians and scientists in various disciplines who use statistical methodology in their work. At the same time, special emphasis is placed on applications-oriented techniques, with the applied statistician in mind as the primary audience. - Comprehensively presents the various aspects of statistical methodology - Discusses a wide variety of diverse applications and recent developments - Contributors are internationally renowened experts in their respective areas

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last two decades, many areas of statistical inference have experienced phenomenal growth. This book presents a timely analysis and overview of some of these new developments and a contemporary outlook on the various frontiers of statistics.Eminent leaders in the field have contributed 16 review articles and 6 research articles covering areas including semi-parametric models, data analytical nonparametric methods, statistical learning, network tomography, longitudinal data analysis, financial econometrics, time series, bootstrap and other re-sampling methodologies, statistical computing, generalized nonlinear regression and mixed effects models, martingale transform tests for model diagnostics, robust multivariate analysis, single index models and wavelets. This volume is dedicated to Prof. Peter J Bickel in honor of his 65th birthday. The first article of this volume summarizes some of Prof. Bickel's distinguished contributions.
Download or read book The Bootstrap and Edgeworth Expansion written by Peter Hall and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph addresses two quite different topics, each being able to shed light on the other. Firstly, it lays the foundation for a particular view of the bootstrap. Secondly, it gives an account of Edgeworth expansion. The first two chapters deal with the bootstrap and Edgeworth expansion respectively, while chapters 3 and 4 bring these two themes together, using Edgeworth expansion to explore and develop the properties of the bootstrap. The book is aimed at graduate level for those with some exposure to the methods of theoretical statistics. However, technical details are delayed until the last chapter such that mathematically able readers without knowledge of the rigorous theory of probability will have no trouble understanding most of the book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Statistical Theory and Modelling is a celebration of the work of Sir David Cox, FRS, and reflects his many interests in statistical theory and methods. It is a series of review articles, intended as an introduction to a variety of topics suitable for the graduate student and practicing statistician. Many of the topics are the subject of book-length treatments by Sir David and authors of this volume. Each chapter leads to a larger literature. Topics range the breadth of statistics and include modern degvelopments in statistical theory and methods. Special topics covered are generalized linear models, residuals and diagnostics, survival analysis, sequential analysis, time series, stochastic modelling of spatial data, design of experiments, likelihood inference and statistical approximation.

Download or read book Recent Studies on Risk Analysis and Statistical Modeling written by Teresa A. Oliveira and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-22 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of the latest developments in the field of risk analysis (RA). Statistical methodologies have long-since been employed as crucial decision support tools in RA. Thus, in the context of this new century, characterized by a variety of daily risks - from security to health risks - the importance of exploring theoretical and applied issues connecting RA and statistical modeling (SM) is self-evident. In addition to discussing the latest methodological advances in these areas, the book explores applications in a broad range of settings, such as medicine, biology, insurance, pharmacology and agriculture, while also fostering applications in newly emerging areas. This book is intended for graduate students as well as quantitative researchers in the area of RA.
