En quelques mois, pourtant, on a vu le nouveau Président amorcer une véritable contre-révolution, en arrière toute et carrément à droite, au nom de politiques économiques et sociales qui n’ont jamais marché ! Ces fameuses « politiques de l’offre » qui libèrent les patrons, diminuent les « charges » et enrichissent les riches au nom de la compétitivité. Il est alors bien tentant de réduire le moment Macron à l’avènement d’un opportuniste qui se contenterait d’être le « président des riches ». Mais, dans la lignée de La Déconnomie (Seuil, 2016), ce livre propose un diagnostic bien plus subtil. Sous l’apparente victoire de l’argent se cache en fait une troublante défaite de la raison. Loin d’être un aventurier au service de la finance, le président Macron semble animé par une philosophie qui voudrait articuler le meilleur du socialisme et du libéralisme. Pour autant, aussitôt qu’il aborde le champ économique et social, sa fine dialectique s’abîme dans une bouillie conceptuelle qui lui inspire des politiques aux effets contraires à ce qu’il prétend réaliser. En cela, il renoue avec la posture névrotique de la social-démocratie européenne qui, face à la mondialisation d’un capitalisme ravageur, s’est imaginée héroïque parce qu’elle avait le courage de se soumettre à ses lois et non plus celui de le combattre. Jacques Généreux, professeur à Sciences Po, membre de l’Association française d’économie politique, enseigne l’économie depuis trente-cinq ans.
