Book excerpt: Excerpt from Feldspar Deposits of the Bryson City District, North Carolina Muscovite mica in books large enough to yield Sheet mica has been found in a few pegmatites in the area, and small tonnages of mica appear to have been produced from time to time. Mica concentrations in the pegmatites, however, appear tobe small, and most of the books are SO marred by structural defects that they are salable only as scrap mica. Descriptions Of 29 pegmatite mines and prospects are given. The more important mines are discussed in detail, and detailed maps and other diagrams Of the pegmatites exposed in them are presented. This book was released on 2016-11-25 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Feldspars of the New England and North Appalachian States AS the use of domestic materials has increased, the manufacturer has generally depended on the results of tests of samples submitted. The crude materials differ SO greatly from the materials purchased, and the treatment necessary to prepare crude material for use in volves such an intimate acquaintance with its peculiarities that the users had further cause to neglect to acquaint themselves with the details of its mining and preparation. The investigations presented in this bulletin have been undertaken by the bureau with a view to a better understanding of the conditions which confront the producer of commercial feldspar and also with the Object of determining wherein the various deposits of feldspar differ. This information will enable the manufacturer to choose the source of supply which is best suited to his needs, and in case a change is necessary to choose more intelligently the location from which to draw for his future supply. Book The Clays of the State of Washington

Download or read book The Clays of the State of Washington written by Solon Shedd and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-13 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Clays of the State of Washington: Their Geology, Mineralogy, and Technology Work on the clays of Washington was begun in the sum mer of 1901 while working on the Washington Geological Survey, small part of the field season that year being de voted to this work. Some of the most important clay deposits and clay-working plants were visited and samples of the clays procured and sent to the State College for study. On account of other work, nothing further, however, was done until the sum mer of 1903, when, on account of the Washington Geological Survey having been discontinued, the State College took up the work and has furnished the means for completing it. Field work has been carried on during a part of each of the summers of 1903, 1904s, 1905, and 1906; the different localities where the clays are being utilized having been visited, samples of the clays procured, and the deposits studied. Samples have been obtained also from many deposits which up to the present time have not been utilized. For various reasons, however, it has not been possible to visit some localities where clays that are suited to the manufacture of certain kinds of clay products may occur. In some cases samples have been procured from these localities by giving the party interested in the deposit directions in regard to sampling and having samples taken by him and sent to the College. Download or read book The Decomposition of the Feldspars Classic Reprint written by Allerton S. Cushman and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-11-19 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Decomposition of the Feldspars Since the feldspars contain comparatively large quantities of the soluble alkaline and alkaline-earth bases, it was thought that an esti mation of the soluble salts would permit the degree of decomposition in both dry and wet ground powders to be determined. Our work has shown, however, that the analysis of the solution can not furnish a measure of the limits of the reactions which take place. The reasons for this will appear later. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The periodic table of elements is among the most recognizable image in science. It lies at the core of chemistry and embodies the most fundamental principles of science. In this new edition, Eric Scerri offers readers a complete and updated history and philosophy of the periodic table. Written in a lively style to appeal to experts and interested lay-persons alike, The Periodic Table: Its Story and Its Significance begins with an overview of the importance of the periodic table and the manner in which the term "element" has been interpreted by chemists and philosophers across time. The book traces the evolution and development of the periodic table from its early beginnings with the work of the precursors like De Chancourtois, Newlands and Meyer to Mendeleev's 1869 first published table and beyond. Several chapters are devoted to developments in 20th century physics, especially quantum mechanics and and the extent to which they explain the periodic table in a more fundamental way. Other chapters examine the formation of the elements, nuclear structure, the discovery of the last seven infra-uranium elements, and the synthesis of trans-uranium elements. Finally, the book considers the many different ways of representing the periodic system and the quest for an optimal arrangement.
