The theoretical base of the analysis is a conceptual model of co-operatives and their impact on communities developed through past research and described in appendix B. The analysis in this section is based on interviews with community and co-operative leaders in 11 different centres in the province chosen to provide a broad overview of the southern half of the province and to obtain samples reflecting different climatic conditions, resource bases, and population mix.
