Download or read book Resources and Planning for Economic Development written by Archana Bhargava and published by Northern Book Centre. This book was released on 1991 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inter-relationship between man, resources and development is the point of discussion and elaboration in the present volume. In the wake of integrated rural regional development, it is imperative to envisage development as socio-economic change for betterment of masses involving local resources and incorporate interest. Such a structural change in orientation of planning requires resource evaluation and allocation on microscale in detail. Utilizing the contemporary techniques, evaluation of potentials, present utilization and possibilities of optimum utilization of resources of a relatively less developed region, i.e., Sagar Division of Madhya Pradesh is attempted. This division provides an example of how only basic attributes of resources are taken care of ignoring the combinational ones in the existing system of spatial organisation developed under top-down planning. The widening disparity can be minimized by planning on micro-level. A comparatively new approach of identification of planning units, incorporating characteristics of both formal and functional regions, has been attempted. As such the present volume can serve as model for resource-based development planning of depressed regions.

This comprehensive and clearly written text explains the growth in real income per person and income disparities within and between developing countries. The author explains the reasons for the fast growth of Pacific Rim countries, Brazil, Poland, and (recently) India, and the increasing economic misery and degradation of large parts of sub-Saharan Africa. The book also examines China and other post-socialist economies as low- and middle-income countries, without, however, overshadowing the primary emphasis on the third world. The text is replete with real-world examples. The exposition emphasizes the themes of poverty, inequality, unemployment, the environment, and deficiencies of people in less developed countries. The guide to the readings, through bibliography, and websites with links to development resources makes the book useful for students writing research papers.

Download or read book Nature Economy and Society written by Nilanjan Ghosh and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-09-01 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an enquiry into the interface between nature, economy and society, which is still in its early stages, notwithstanding the commendable progress and advances made in the field of environmental and natural resource economics within the ever-expanding boundaries of economics as a discipline. It further delineates the evolution of an inter-disciplinary framework for analyzing the status, the future goals, mechanisms and policy instruments that can help move towards a more ecologically sustainable, economically beneficial and socially just future. A pre-requisite for preparing a comprehensive and coherent framework involves unfolding the multiple layers of interconnectedness between the three systems nature, economy and society, each of which has its own internal consistencies as well as externalities. Against this backdrop, the book presents scholarly contributions that focus on four broadly defined building blocks, namely: i) accounting for ecosystems services for life and human well-being; ii) impacts of economic growth on ecosystems; iii) social norms, equity, and governance; and iv) alternative approaches to green and socio-economic systems. The analyses, presented by some of the most eminent national and international scholars, address the major environmental challenges that nations around the world face today and consider which specific policy directions at the international and national level are needed. In particular, the choices India and South Asia now face, as development and environment both need to be addressed adequately, touch on many of these challenges.
