Book Economic Characteristics of and Changes in the Market Egg Industry Classic Reprint

Download or read book Economic Characteristics of and Changes in the Market Egg Industry Classic Reprint written by George Burnet Rogers and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-18 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Economic Characteristics of and Changes in the Market Egg Industry Although numerous State and regional studies have dealt with one phase of the egg industry at a particular point in time, none of these have been broad enough to furnish a comprehensive picture of the industry during one time period. Moreover, these individual studies have often been oriented toward one segment of the industry, such as producers or egg packers, and usually toward only a few phases of that segment such as sources, outlets, egg quality, or some particular practice. Hence, it was decided to carry out a sample survey on a national basis, during a reasonably homogeneous time period, and with extensive coverage of the industry. Book Poultry and Egg Situation

Download or read book Poultry and Egg Situation written by United States Department of Agriculture and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-12-07 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Poultry and Egg Situation: November 7, 1938 The outlook for 1939 points to an increase in poultry and egg supplies. The expected expansion of the industry in 1939 may lead to some temporary contraction of production in 1940. Unless unfavorable conditions intervene, however, the swing of production over the next 4 or 5 years is likely to be upward from.the relatively low levels of the past several seasons. The high point in numbers of chickens on farms, around 475 millions, was reached in 1928. Since that time numbers have declined to about 587 millions in 1938 due to droughts and disturbing economic conditions. In view of the volume of production of the poultry industry at its peak in 1928, it seems reasonable to expect some re-expansion over the next few years. While the increase in population over the past decade would require some increase in average production if per capita consumption is to be maintained, the trend toward increased efficiency of layers has been such that former levels of pro duction can be attained with fewer birds. Book Production and Marketing Costs and Margins for Poultry and Eggs Classic Reprint

Download or read book Production and Marketing Costs and Margins for Poultry and Eggs Classic Reprint written by George B. Rogers and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-09-08 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Production and Marketing Costs and Margins for Poultry and Eggs For many years, the variations in returns received by poultry and egg producers mainly reflected year-to-year changes in output and its impact on prices. Production costs varied somewhat due to; small changes in feed ingredient prices, production efficiency, and use of capacity. Marketing margins were declining to stable, tending to reflect fairly constant spreads back from wholesale levels toward the producer. With feed ingredient prices showing much wider swings in recent years, and with prices of other inputs rising, the need to keep abreast of data on production costs and returns and marketing costs and margins has become more pressing. The Economic Research Service, in cooperation with the Georgia, Missouri, and Pennsylvania agricultural experiment stations, is conducting a program of research to develop better continuing measurements of production and marketing costs. This article is based on some inputs from that program as well as on other recent studies. Figures presented are preliminary and more indicative of relative changes than of precise levels. These series will be refined as more data are collected and analyzed. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Vertical and Horizontal Integration in the Market Egg Industry, 1955-69 Increased coordination of production, input - supplying, and marketing functions was also one of the forces enumerated in a recent study as being related to interregional shifts in egg production (8, p. V). In terms of interregional competition, this suggests that those regions which developed further and faster toward a higher degree of integration or coordination would be likely to enjoy a competitive advantage, other things being equal. Download or read book Competitive Position of the Midwestern Egg Industry Classic Reprint written by George Burnet Rogers and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Competitive Position of the Midwestern Egg Industry Many egg producers in the Midwest have become increasingly concerned in recent years about the prices they receive for their eggs, particularly during the late spring and early winter when production is greatest. The growing dissatisfaction with producer price levels is an expression of some rather far-reaching troubles being experienced by the Midwestern egg industry. These difficulties are attributable to both external and internal forces. Externally, the egg industry is characterized by a rate of growth which is slower than that of the population. The per capita consumption of eggs has been declining, even though egg prices have declined in relation to prices of most other food products. (see Appendix I for demand analyses.) Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Producing Eggs in New Jersey: An Economic Study Since 1930, production of chickens and eggs has increased more than has that of dairy products and red meats, despite the relatively lower prices received for chickens and eggs. More efficient poultry production explains at least part of this shift. Broilers have replaced farm flocks of chickens as the main component of chicken meat marketings, because of (a) rapid increases in broiler production, (b) fewer hens required for a given volume of egg production with the higher rate of lay per bird, and (c) the increased use of sexed chicks, which has reduced greatly the number of cockerels raised by egg producers in replacement flocks. This book was released on 2018-02-27 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Poultry and Egg Situation: February, 1941 These pronounced seasonal shifts in egg production have had important effects on all phases of the egg industry. Among the most important of these is a change in the seasonal variation for egg prices and a change in require ments for egg storage. The more even distribution of monthly egg production has reduced the quantities of storage eggs needed in the winter months and has also resulted in a definite flattening off of the annual seasonal hump in late fall egg prices. Book The Poultry and Egg Situation Vol 31 July 1 1939 Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Poultry and Egg Situation Vol 31 July 1 1939 Classic Reprint written by United States Department Of Agriculture and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-14 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Poultry and Egg Situation, Vol. 31: July 1, 1939 The poultry and egg situation in June showed little improvement over previous months of this year, reports the Bureau of Agricultural Economics. Prices of' eggs were at the lowest level since 1931] and prices of chickens were lower than at any time since the winter of 1937. The lower prices this year than last reflect chiefly larger seasonal marketings of chickens and eggs and larger storage stocks of these products. A recent supporting factor to eggrprices has been the purchase of cars of eggs by the Federal Surplus Commodities Corporation for relief distribution. The feed egg price ratio continues much less favorable for farmers than a year earlier. Receipts of eggs at the four markets New York, Chicagp, Philadelphia and Boston have been declining seasonally but continue above last year. Since late May, combined storage holdings of shell and frozen eggs have been above last year. By August 1 holdings may be 5 to 10 percent larger than on that date last year. The number of chickens from this year's hatchings in farm flocks on June 1 was about 3 percent larger than on that date in 1938 as compared with 5 percent above last year on May 1. On the basis of past relationships be tween changes in numbers of chickens on January 1 and changes in number of chicks and young chickens the preceding June 1, the size of laying flocks on January 1, 19110 may be little if any larger than'in i939. Book The Poultry and Egg Situation May June 1949 Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Poultry and Egg Situation May June 1949 Classic Reprint written by U. S. Bureau of Agriculture Economics and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Poultry and Egg Situation: May-June, 1949 Egg prices rose during May. U. S. Farm prices, averaging cents per dozen, were cents higher than in April, and the increase for tep grade eggs in metropolitan markets was even greater. The greater increase in the price of top-grade eggs is probably a result of warmer weather which reduces the proportion of high-quality eggs in the general run of eggs brought to market. The l.icente rise in farm eog prices from April to May is larger than usual. In two of the years since 1940, the May price has been lower than the April figure, and in only one other recent year, 1939, did the rise exceed 1 cent. In part the rise may have been affected by the one half of 1 percent decline in April egg production compared with March this year. The usual production trend from March to April has been an increase of about 5 percent in farm egg production. The relatively large diversion of eggs to hatcheries, suggested as a factor in the price increase, was more than offset by the relatively small volume of eggs put in storage.
