Book excerpt: The present investigation was directed to estimate the investment pattern and the economics of milk production on different categories of dairy herds to estimate the optimum scale of milk production and the impact of milk production level on cost per litre of milk to study the relationship between animal, to examine the resource productivity and scope for increasing returns through optimum allocation of dairy inpats with limited copital. The cost of production per litre of milk Rs 3.24 shared 18% by fixed cost items and remaining 82% by variable expenditure with4 Rs/lit selling rate milk production was a remunerative enterprise. Cost per litre of milk production would decline with increase in level of production on a hard. Productivity per animal declined with the increase in herd. Green fodder and dry fodder were two important inputs having significant regression difficient on both the categories of herd and for overall situation. The difference between the margral value products of all the inputs and their respective prices were not statisticaly significant in any of the comparisons.

Book excerpt: The present study was conducted with an aim to explore the enterpreneurial characteristics of milk producers and to see its inpact on adoption of dairy practices, increased milk production and increased milk selling that could guide the developmental agenuies in inducing desired developmental programmes through trainning. The results indicated that 60 percent of respoudents in case of low milk producer and 55 percent in case of high milk producer were found to be illiterate. Maximum percentage (70%) have herd size rangning from 5-15 in HMP group and maximum (80%) have herd size ranging from 1-5 only in LMP group. As for as manmedia exposure is concered only 30 percent in case of HMP group and 18 percent in case of LMP group sewwred average or high scores. With regard to extention contact 80-95 percent in both the cases secured poor scores and pertaining to knowledge non fall under loww knowledge group.
