Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quot;Studies on capital structure have been concentrated in developed countries; a few of them have been in countries such as India. This paper provides a) an empirical examination to the widely held existing theories on the determinants of corporate capital structure and their maturity; and b) attempts to develop and test a new theory on capital structure for large manufacturing firms in developing economies such as India. For, the different empirical and managerial implications about different periods of debt instruments, we analyze measures of short-term and long-term debt rather than only an aggregate measure of total debt. The study also analyses the empirical implications of liberalization of Indian economy, on the determinants of capital structure of the firm. Some of the results were found contrary to the classical financial theory.quot.

Book Determinants of Capital Structure in Various Circumstances

Download or read book Determinants of Capital Structure in Various Circumstances written by Ghassan Omet and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The financial economics literature has given the capital structure choice of firms a lot of attention. Indeed, this literature includes not only econometric analysis of the determinants of capital structure, but also surveys of Chief Financial Officers on this financial decision. This paper reports the leverage ratios of listed Saudi and Palestinian non-financial firms and examines whether the differences in the determinants of their ratios are due to firms-specific factors, or country specific difference. Based on a total of 55 listed Saudi firms and 18 listed Palestinian firms during the period 2006-2012, and using the Seemingly Unrelated Regression, and Panel data Analysis, the results indicate that factors like asset structure and firm profitability impact the capital structure of both sets of firms. However, the differences in their impact are due to country-specific and not firm-specific factors. This result is not really surprising given that both sets of firms operated under different political and economic circumstances.

Book Determinants of Capital Structure

Download or read book Determinants of Capital Structure written by Palakh Jain and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Capital structure pertains to the extent of leverage of the firm. In recent years, a number of theories have been proposed to explain the variation in debt ratios across firms. The theories suggest that firms select capital structures depending on attributes that determine the various costs and benefits associated with debt and equity financing. The same is tested here via econometric techniques using Prowess Database for Indian Companies.

Book The Determinants of Capital Structure in Ethiopian Small Scale Manufacturing Industry Firms

Download or read book The Determinants of Capital Structure in Ethiopian Small Scale Manufacturing Industry Firms written by Dereje Yohannis and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2019-12-18 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2019 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 3.28, , language: English, abstract: The purpose of the study is investigating the determinants of capital structure for Small Scale Manufacturing Firms (SSMFs) in Ethiopia. Hypotheses utilizing trade-off, pecking order and agency theories are empirically examined using a series of firm characteristics: size, tangibility, profitability, earning volatility, age and macroeconomic variable (GDP growth rate, inflation rate and interest rate). A structured record review was made to collect a panel data, which include 20 SSMFs year observations of 11 years over the period 1998 – 2008 E.C. The findings suggest that profitability, earning volatility, age, growth, GDP, inflation rate and interest rate variables are the most important determinants of capital structure of SSMFs in Ethiopia. The findings also reveal that the dominant capital structure theories (trade-off, pecking order, and agency theories) appear indeed to be valid for Ethiopian SSMFs’ capital structure; in fact, trade-off theory best explains Ethiopian SSMFs’ capital structure. All firm specific variables except Size, tangibility and growth variables seem to have an effect on the level of leverage in Ethiopian SSMFs.

Book Determinants and Effects of Countries External Capital Structure A Firm Level Analysis

Download or read book Determinants and Effects of Countries External Capital Structure A Firm Level Analysis written by Uroš Herman and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2022-02-18 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper, we investigate whether a firm’s composition of foreign liabilities matters for their resilience during economic turmoil and examine which characteristics determine a firm’s foreign capital structure. Using firm-level data, we corroborate previous findings from the (international) macroeconomic literature that the composition of foreign liabilities matters for a country’s susceptibility to external shocks. We find that firms with a positive equity share in their foreign liabilities were less affected by the global financial crisis and also less likely to default in the aftermath of the crisis. In addition, we show that larger, more open, and more productive firms tend to have a higher equity share in total foreign liabilities.

Book Corporate Capital Structures in the United States

Download or read book Corporate Capital Structures in the United States written by Benjamin M. Friedman and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2009-05-15 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The research reported in this volume represents the second stage of a wide-ranging National Bureau of Economic Research effort to investigate "The Changing Role of Debt and Equity in Financing U.S. Capital Formation." The first group of studies sponsored under this project, which have been published individually and summarized in a 1982 volume bearing the same title (Friedman 1982), addressed several key issues relevant to corporate sector behavior along with such other aspects of the evolving financial underpinnings of U.S. capital formation as household saving incentives, international capital flows, and government debt management. In the project's second series of studies, presented at the National Bureau of Economic Research conference in January 1983 and published here for the first time along with commentaries from that conference, the central focus is the financial side of capital formation undertaken by the U.S. corporate business sector. At the same time, because corporations' securities must be held, a parallel focus is on the behavior of the markets that price these claims.

This book was released on 2020-07-30 with total page 5053 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This four-volume handbook covers important concepts and tools used in the fields of financial econometrics, mathematics, statistics, and machine learning. Econometric methods have been applied in asset pricing, corporate finance, international finance, options and futures, risk management, and in stress testing for financial institutions. This handbook discusses a variety of econometric methods, including single equation multiple regression, simultaneous equation regression, and panel data analysis, among others. It also covers statistical distributions, such as the binomial and log normal distributions, in light of their applications to portfolio theory and asset management in addition to their use in research regarding options and futures contracts. In both theory and methodology, we need to rely upon mathematics, which includes linear algebra, geometry, differential equations, Stochastic differential equation (Ito calculus), optimization, constrained optimization, and others. These forms of mathematics have been used to derive capital market line, security market line (capital asset pricing model), option pricing model, portfolio analysis, and others. In recent times, an increased importance has been given to computer technology in financial research. Different computer languages and programming techniques are important tools for empirical research in finance. Hence, simulation, machine learning, big data, and financial payments are explored in this handbook.Led by Distinguished Professor Cheng Few Lee from Rutgers University, this multi-volume work integrates theoretical, methodological, and practical issues based on his years of academic and industry experience.

Book Determinants of the Capital Structure of Small and Medium Sized Brazilian Enterprises

Download or read book Determinants of the Capital Structure of Small and Medium Sized Brazilian Enterprises written by Denis Forte and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research investigates the determinants of the capital structure of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) using a unique database that includes over 19,000 Brazilian firms and spans 13 years of data. The econometric analysis employs the System Generalized Method of Moments estimator (GMM-Sys) and two strong results emerge: (a) profitability is negatively related to leverage, and (b) asset growth is positively related to leverage. Both results are consistent with the pecking order theory of capital structure and suggest that SMEs tend to finance their expansion with debt only after exhausting their internal resources. Additionally, we find weaker evidence for the following: (a) size is positively related to leverage, which can be interpreted as evidence that larger firms have more access to credit markets; (b) riskier SMEs tend to be less financially leveraged, consistent with the bankruptcy cost arguments from trade-off theories; and (c) the age of the firm is negatively related to financial leverage, suggesting that older SMEs may be slightly more conservative in their financing choices. Finally, the magnitude of the coefficient of lagged leverage shows the high persistence of this variable and is compatible with the hypothesis that SMEs adjust their debt/equity ratio towards a target value, although at a low speed.

Book Capital Structure Determinants

Download or read book Capital Structure Determinants written by Nader Alber and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper examines the capital structure across different countries from 2005 to 2015 in Egypt and other three selected countries namely: Turkey, Brazil and Argentina. The book leverage sensitivity to the explanatory variables (profitability, firm size, tangibility, volatility, GDP growth, inflation and stock market development) was examined. Specifically, this paper documents the determinants of capital structure in Egyptian listed non-financial firms and investigates how capital structure decisions in three other countries who are one-step ahead in terms of economic development entertain any unique features.Profitability was the only variable consistently highly significant with negative coefficient obtained in our regressions for four countries using GMM estimation method. Inconsistency of results for other variables prevailed. Findings reveal that Egyptian firms on average are not highly leveraged due to supply constraints on bank lending and demand constraints on consumer borrowing. The empirical evidence seems reasonably consistent with some versions of capital structure theory and other studies.

Book Capital Structure and Shari ah Compliance of non Financial Firms

Download or read book Capital Structure and Shari ah Compliance of non Financial Firms written by Ramazan Yildirim and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2021-03-22 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the present financial world, various niche markets play an increasingly important role. One of the fastest-growing niches is, without a doubt, Islamic finance. Indeed, sustainable finance needs constantly evolving innovations, and this book offers valuable insights into Islamic capital structure and Shari’ah equity screening enriching academic discourse. "In recent years, we have witnessed the emergence of a new generation of academics and professionals specializing in various aspects of Islamic finance as knowledge and practice. This has brought about a new dynamism and also further sophistication. This book is one of such contributions, as it develops knowledge which is then transformed into practice whereby practical impact is also achieved. Being an academic book, it provokes readers’ thoughts, offering a critique of the implications of the currently applied Shari’ah screenings methodologies. As a transformative practical piece, by developing an innovative screening ratio, in this book, Dr. Yildirim extends his focus on the risk-sharing based financing hierarchy, covers thoughts and the underlying philosophy, and proposes an Islamic version of a pecking order hierarchy. This framework can be considered the foundation for developing an Islamic capital structure theory. This book will benefit academics, professionals, investors, as well as policymakers working in the Islamic finance industry and would like to explore more." (Professor Dr. Mehmet Asutay, Durham University Business School, UK) "This book offers, for the first time after the inception of Shari’ah screening methodologies, a groundbreaking new stock screening solution that is comprehensible, practical, and foremost entirely derived from the primary sources of Islam (Qur’an and Sunnah). Congratulations to Dr. Ramazan for his outstanding contribution to Islamic finance and capital markets." (Associate Professor Dr. Ahcene Lahsasna) "This excellent book is a must-have for all corporate finance students/researchers interested in the theoretical aspect of capital structure and the religious discussion of Shari’ah equity screening. This book should become a companion to those involved in a quantitative research environment and aim to conduct a comparative analysis; an ideal resource for everyone, from Shari’ah scholars to Islamic finance practitioners and beginners to experts." (Professor Dr. M. Kabir Hassan, University of New Orleans, USA)

Book Empirical Analysis of the Capital Structure Determinants

Download or read book Empirical Analysis of the Capital Structure Determinants written by Abubakr Saeed and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2009-08 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Capital structure theory is one of the most bewildering issues in the corporate finance literature. Capital structure theories suggest various factors that affect firm to maintain a target capital structure in order to maximize firm value, by minimizing the costs of prevailing market imperfections. Subsequent to the departures from Modigliani and Miller (1958) s irrelevance proposition, there is a long tradition in corporate finance to investigate the capital structure determinants of firms. Most capital structure studies based on these theories to date uses data from economies that have developed financial markets or approaching higher stages of transition, i.e. China and India. Less developed market and particular specific industry is rare in literacy sphere. This book analyzes the explanatory power of some predominant theories that have been proposed in the literature to explain determinants of capital structures across firms. In particular, this study investigates the capital structure determinants of Pakistani firms based on a panel data set from 2001 to 2005.

Book Determinants of Capital Structure of Indian Corporate Sector in the Period of Bull Run 2003 2007 An Econometric Study

Download or read book Determinants of Capital Structure of Indian Corporate Sector in the Period of Bull Run 2003 2007 An Econometric Study written by Debabrata Datta and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are three major theories in the Corporate Finance literature, namely, Trade-off theory, Agency Cost theory and Pecking-Order theory that highlight different determinants of corporate capital structure. In an attempt to study the determinants of capital structure in Indian scenario and to verify whether any of the above mentioned theories can characterize the Indian corporate financing, this paper makes an empirical study of the capital financing pattern of 76 Indian firms for the period 2003-2007, the period of unprecedented growth of Indian economy. The study makes fixed effect panel data (LSDV) regression and finds out that financing with internal funds, as suggested by pecking-order theory has emerged as a major feature of corporate capital structure. Some other determinants, however, have patterns of influences that match with the postulates of other two theories. The analysis finds out that the capital structure pattern on an average portends well for long term development of Indian corporate sector.
