Book Forest Ecosystem Classification for Nova Scotia

Download or read book Forest Ecosystem Classification for Nova Scotia written by Kevin Stewart Keys and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guide is part of the Nova Scotia forest ecosystem classification (FEC) system. It describes all currently recognized FEC Soil Types (STs) in the province along with related management interpretations. Although presented as a separate document, this guide is designed to be used in conjunction with provincial vegetation type and ecosite guides to support ecosystem based, stand-level forest management in Nova Scotia. Soil types were derived from 1,456 provincial FEC field plots sampled between 2000 and 2010. Data from an additional 102 non-FEC plots assessed by the Atlantic Canada Conservation Data Centre and NSDNR Wildlife Division were also used.--Document.

Book Global to Local Ecological Land Classification

Download or read book Global to Local Ecological Land Classification written by Richard A. Sims and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 619 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ecological Land Classification (ELC) refers to the description of land resources at a range of spatial resolutions (i.e. global to local) and for a range of purposes or values. The emerging science of ELC is in fact a very carefully integrated blend of vegetation and earth sciences, climatology, cartography and ecology with a range of new technologies and methodologies including computer-based geographic information systems, remote sensing and simulation modelling. This publication defines the current `state-of-the-art' of ELC. It provides particular insight into the role of ELC in current and future forest resource planning and management, and emphasizes its application and usefulness at various spatial scales, for a variety of geographic locations, and under a range of management scenarios/constraints. The book is an invaluable and substantial reference source about the current trends in ELC and will be of particular value to ecologists, foresters, geographers, resource managers, wildlife biologists, GIS and remote sensing specialists, educators and students.

Book Ecoregions and Ecodistricts of Nova Scotia

Download or read book Ecoregions and Ecodistricts of Nova Scotia written by K. T. Webb and published by [Truro, N.S.] : Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. This book was released on 1999-01-01 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report begins with background on ecosystems, ecological land classification, the National Ecological Framework, and the ecological units used in Nova Scotia. It then describes Nova Scotia within the context of one ecozone (Atlantic maritime), eight ecoregions (maritime lowlands, Fundy coast, south-west uplands, Atlantic coast, Annapolis-Minas lowlands, south-central uplands, highlands, and Cape Breton highlands), and 25 ecodistricts. The ecoregions and ecodistricts are described in terms of climate, vegetation, landforms, soils, wildlife, and land use.

Book Terminologie de la Classification cologique Des Terres Au Canada

Download or read book Terminologie de la Classification cologique Des Terres Au Canada written by Madeleine Cauboue and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This glossary indexes more than 550 terms currently used in Canada for ecological land classification. These terms originate from fundamental ecology, ecological classification and cartography, as well as biology, geomorphology, pedology, geology, forestry, hydrology and statistics. Some terms also relate to rapidly evolving domains such as landscape ecology and wildlife management. The user will find the equivalent for each term in the other official language in addition to generally accepted traditions.

Book Our Landscape Heritage

Download or read book Our Landscape Heritage written by Vincent Frank Zelazny and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our Landscape Heritage provides an overview of the history and ecological makeup of the landscapes of New Brunswick to help ecological seekers starting out with basic knowledge about geology, soils, climate, and vegetation, to better understand why plants and animals are today distributed as they are. Part I outlines the rationale and history of ecological land classification (ELC) in New Brunswick, and presents basic scientific concepts and facts that help the reader to interpret the information that follows. Part II, Portrait of New Brunswick Ecoregions and Ecodistricts presents a detailed look at the variety and distribution of ecosystems across the geographic expanse of New Brunswick. Each of the seven chapters of Part II provides a high level description of the ecoregion, followed by detailed descriptions of each ecodistrict within the ecoregion.--Includes text from document.

Book Ecological Land Classification 2017

Download or read book Ecological Land Classification 2017 written by Statistics Canada and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Ecological Land Classification (ELC) is Statistics Canada's official classification for ecological areas in Canada. The ELC was developed to enable the production of integrated statistics for ecological areas. It is a hierarchical framework that classifies ecological areas or ecosystems and that incorporates all major components of ecosystems: air, water, land and biota. All boundaries in the ecological framework are matched to soil landscape polygons from the Soil Landscapes of Canada (SLC). The ELC provides unique names and codes for the ecozones, ecoprovinces, ecoregions and ecodistricts of Canada. The range of geographical units is convenient for data collection and compilation, and is useful for spatial analysis of environmental, economic and social statistics"--Preface, p. 4.

Book Problems in Mapping Non productive Woodland Using the CLI Present Land Use Classification in Halifax County Nova Scotia

Download or read book Problems in Mapping Non productive Woodland Using the CLI Present Land Use Classification in Halifax County Nova Scotia written by Peter N. Duinker and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The mapping of Non-productive woodland (U) using the CLI Present Land Use Classification in Halifax County, Nova Scotia, has been inconsistent. The land use interpretations of 1968 and 1973 were compared for four woodland test sites, each of approximately 11 km2. In two of the four cases, substantial changes in the amount and location of Non-productive woodland delineations were indicated by the maps. Field checking and photo comparison for these two sites revealed that no detectable change in forest cover had occurred"--Abstract.
