Book Uniform Central Limit Theorems

Download or read book Uniform Central Limit Theorems written by R. M. Dudley and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2014-02-24 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this new edition of a classic work on empirical processes the author, an acknowledged expert, gives a thorough treatment of the subject with the addition of several proved theorems not included in the first edition, including the Bretagnolle–Massart theorem giving constants in the Komlos–Major–Tusnady rate of convergence for the classical empirical process, Massart's form of the Dvoretzky–Kiefer–Wolfowitz inequality with precise constant, Talagrand's generic chaining approach to boundedness of Gaussian processes, a characterization of uniform Glivenko–Cantelli classes of functions, Giné and Zinn's characterization of uniform Donsker classes, and the Bousquet–Koltchinskii–Panchenko theorem that the convex hull of a uniform Donsker class is uniform Donsker. The book will be an essential reference for mathematicians working in infinite-dimensional central limit theorems, mathematical statisticians, and computer scientists working in computer learning theory. Problems are included at the end of each chapter so the book can also be used as an advanced text.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Approach your problems from the right end It isn't that they can't see the solution. It is and begin with the answers. Then one day, that they can't see the problem. perhaps you will find the final question. G. K. Chesterton. The Scandal of Father 'The Hermit Oad in Crane Feathers' in R. Brown 'The point of a Pin'. van Gulik's The Chinese Maze Murders. Growing specialization and diversification have brought a host of monographs and textbooks on increasingly specialized topics. However, the "tree" of knowledge of mathematics and related fields does not grow only by putting forth new branches. It also happens, quite often in fact, that branches which were thought to be completely disparate are suddenly seen to be related. Further, the kind and level of sophistication of mathematics applied in various sciences has changed drastically in recent years: measure theory is used (non-trivially) in regional and theoretical economics; algebraic geometry interacts with physics; the Minkowsky lemma, coding theory and the structure of water meet one another in packing and covering theory; quantum fields, crystal defects and mathematical programming profit from homotopy theory; Lie algebras are relevant to filtering; and prediction and electrical engineering can use Stein spaces. And in addition to this there are such new emerging subdisciplines as "experimental mathematics", "CFD", "completely integrable systems", "chaos, synergetics and large-scale order", which are almost impossible to fit into the existing classification schemes. They draw upon widely different sections of mathematics.

Book Limit Theorems for Functionals of Random Walks

Download or read book Limit Theorems for Functionals of Random Walks written by A. N. Borodin and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1995 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines traditional problems in the theory of random walks: limit theorems for additive and multiadditive functionals defined on a random walk. Although the problems are traditional, the methods presented here are new. The book is intended for experts in probability theory and its applications, as well as for undergraduate and graduate students specializing in these areas.

Book Asymptotic Efficiency of Statistical Estimators Concepts and Higher Order Asymptotic Efficiency

Download or read book Asymptotic Efficiency of Statistical Estimators Concepts and Higher Order Asymptotic Efficiency written by Masafumi Akahira and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is a collection of results recently obtained by the authors. Most of these have been published, while others are awaitlng publication. Our investigation has two main purposes. Firstly, we discuss higher order asymptotic efficiency of estimators in regular situa tions. In these situations it is known that the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) is asymptotically efficient in some (not always specified) sense. However, there exists here a whole class of asymptotically efficient estimators which are thus asymptotically equivalent to the MLE. It is required to make finer distinctions among the estimators, by considering higher order terms in the expansions of their asymptotic distributions. Secondly, we discuss asymptotically efficient estimators in non regular situations. These are situations where the MLE or other estimators are not asymptotically normally distributed, or where l 2 their order of convergence (or consistency) is not n / , as in the regular cases. It is necessary to redefine the concept of asympto tic efficiency, together with the concept of the maximum order of consistency. Under the new definition as asymptotically efficient estimator may not always exist. We have not attempted to tell the whole story in a systematic way. The field of asymptotic theory in statistical estimation is relatively uncultivated. So, we have tried to focus attention on such aspects of our recent results which throw light on the area.

Book Advances in Queueing Theory Methods and Open Problems

Download or read book Advances in Queueing Theory Methods and Open Problems written by Jewgeni H. Dshalalow and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-07-21 with total page 527 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The progress of science and technology has placed Queueing Theory among the most popular disciplines in applied mathematics, operations research, and engineering. Although queueing has been on the scientific market since the beginning of this century, it is still rapidly expanding by capturing new areas in technology. Advances in Queueing provides a comprehensive overview of problems in this enormous area of science and focuses on the most significant methods recently developed. Written by a team of 24 eminent scientists, the book examines stochastic, analytic, and generic methods such as approximations, estimates and bounds, and simulation. The first chapter presents an overview of classical queueing methods from the birth of queues to the seventies. It also contains the most comprehensive bibliography of books on queueing and telecommunications to date. Each of the following chapters surveys recent methods applied to classes of queueing systems and networks followed by a discussion of open problems and future research directions. Advances in Queueing is a practical reference that allows the reader quick access to the latest methods.
