Book Echoes of Mercy Whispers of Love

Download or read book Echoes of Mercy Whispers of Love written by Clement Akran and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2014-06-03 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Echoes of Mercy, Whispers of Love, opens up my spiritual quest, encapsulated with the word Sabali (meaning wisdom or patience in Bambara). Bambara is spoken in Mali, West Africa. Wisdom I believe is organic, so it grows with our life experiences over time, and with that in mind this book is very organic. It starts with my early thoughts mostly philosophical, then it takes you on a deeper spiritual journey. My passion for writing was suddenly rekindled while on retreat at Ashburnham Place (Battle, East Sussex), following my resignation from a career in work-based learning in August 2013. While there I couldn’t keep my experience to myself, so I started posting my thoughts on LinkedIn. By using the LinkedIn App on my iPhone I was forced to make every word work very hard, because the limit for Status Update was only seven hundred characters — who said necessity was the mother of inventions? No matter where I am, or how tired I feel the night before, once that alarm goes off I wake up with this surge of inspiration and I start writing expressly using the WordPress App on my iPhone. This book is alive and breathing with every breath I take. Enjoy!

She felt blessed to be part of a large family, and did not consider herself to be poor. From even a young child’s vantage point, she had a passion for being able to see things through the eyes of Jesus. Within her memoirs, you will see that she combines humor with reality as she relates her story. Her curiosity could not be dismissed. Throughout her life, she felt that God had blessed her with a heart for music, and she wanted to use it for His glory. With strong determination and a song in her heart, she rose beyond the stigma of living on the wrong side of the tracks. Things begin to occur in her life, and feeling all alone, she nearly falters as she faces obstacles that could only be overcome by returning to, and trusting God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: That love does not control seems obvious to many people. And yet the temptation to control—often with good motives — is strong. The long-term results of yielding to this temptation damage everyone. Contributors to Love Does Not Control explore uncontrolling love and a vision of God as uncontrolling. They do so from their perspectives as therapists, psychologists, and counselors. Writers ponder what uncontrolling love might mean for human healing. Open and relational theology operates as the underlying framework for most contributors. That theology fits nicely with the belief that love is uncontrolling. Open and relational theology rethinks divine power in light of love and postulates what it might mean for creatures to imitate their Creator’s uncontrolling love. The essays in Love Does Not Control are diverse. Readers may discover some differences of opinion as they move from essay to essay. But contributors share in common the quest to explore what uncontrolling love means for issues in counseling, psychology, and/or therapy. These essays have a power that goes beyond mere theoretical reflection. The ideas in these pages have the capacity to transform our living. And even reading Love Does Not Control has the potential to become an exercise in uncontrolling love!

And—most remarkably—a request that God has never failed to grant . . . often in surprising ways that have radically transformed individual lives and the trajectory of history itself. In The Mercy Prayer, Robert Gelinas explores the richness of God’s unfailing compassion by blending biblical insights with penetrating personal encounters and keen insight into familiar stories. The result is a practical guide for receiving the mercy we all desperately need and letting it flow from us into the lives of others. The Mercy Prayer reveals: How God’s abundant compassion is at the core of His character and was central to the earthly mission of Jesus The truth that simply praying the Mercy prayer and anticipating mercy’s arrival can soothe a wounded soul and change a life from the inside out Practical ways to carry God’s mercy into the muck and mire of a hurting world, offering comfort and hope in the name of Christ How you can make the most frequent prayer in the Bible your most prayed prayer, too, by learning to pray with every breath you take and every beat of your heart The Mercy Prayer invites each of us to become a student of heavenly compassion and clemency, to immerse ourselves in it, to embrace the responsibility of seeing all life in view of God’s mercy—and to watch as this simple-yet-profound cry reshapes us and our world. Download or read book Hell No written by Charles Gillihan and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2011-07-22 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This critique of the Christian vision of hell and how it is used in ministry and Christian education challenges one of the most basic concepts in western religion. Fundamentalist religions are often criticized for attempting to control people through fear. In this timely book, a fundamentalist preacher and pastor of three decades promotes a more reasoned understanding by taking on the Christian fundamentalist view of hell and contesting the validity of a commonly accepted doctrine. Author Charles Gillihan exhaustively examines a doctrine that is believed by many but truly examined by few, critiquing the Christian vision of hell and its use in ministry and Christian education. He argues that a God of love could never ordain hell, decrying it "the worst lie ever told"—one that prevents many people from understanding the true nature of God and does a disservice to Christianity by keeping people in bondage and fear. This is an exploration of this topic that only a former fundamentalist minister could write and includes a compelling account of his struggle with the doctrine of hell and how he finally came to terms with his true convictions.

Book Queering Wesley Queering the Church

Download or read book Queering Wesley Queering the Church written by Keegan Osinski and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-07-09 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fifty years after Stonewall, the experiences of LGBTQ+ Christians are—rightfully—beginning to be received with interest by their churches. Queering Wesley, Queering the Church presents a prototype for thinking about Wesleyan holiness as an expansive openness to the love and grace of God in queer Christian lives rather than the limiting and restrictive legalism that is sometimes found in Wesleyan theology and praxis. This inventive project consists of queer readings of ten John Wesley sermons. Reading these sermons from a queer perspective offers the church a fresh paradigm for theological innovation, while remaining in line with the tradition and legacy of Wesley that is so central and generative to Wesleyan churches. Arguing that a coherent line of thought can be drawn from Wesley’s conception of holiness to the queer, holy lives of LGBTQ+ Christians, Queering Wesley, Queering the Church playfully utilizes queer theory in a way that is fully compatible with Wesleyan teaching. This book aims to be a first step in seriously considering the theological voices of LGBTQ+ Christians in the Wesleyan tradition as a valuable asset to a vital church.
