Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Levitical Day of Atonement was a day of penitence, confession, and judgment for Israelites of loyal character and a day of covenant renewal for the nation of Israel. On this day, sin was removed from the tabernacle through the application of sacrificial blood to its altars and compartments, as well as by the dismissal of the goat for Azazel, which carried all the community’s sin to a “barren land.” As it became ingrained in the veil of Jewish consciousness, the Day of Atonement underwent a “process of abstraction” over many centuries leading up to Second Temple times, when the Most Holy Place lay devoid of the ark of the covenant and its mercy seat. Continuing to reverberate in the Jewish imaginaire, the Day of Atonement was received by the authors of the New Testament, including John of Patmos, to whom its sacrificial typology provided irresistible motifs which they used to proclaim “the Christ event.” By utilizing a coherent intertextual approach, this book explores how John wove the Day of Atonement into the colorful literary tapestry of Revelation.

Book excerpt: An entertaining, definitive and in-depth study of prog rock, with a new cover and a foreword by Steve Hackett (Genesis). Progressive rock, a genre formed out of a creative surge in the late Sixties and throughout the Seventies. Made by young musicians for a young audience, prog music looked towards new horizons by synthesising rock, jazz, folk, classical and other styles. While prog has always divided critical opinion, in its heyday it had a large and devoted fanbase, and the era's biggest acts from Pink Floyd to Genesis went on to enjoy long-lasting international and commercial success. Although the scene fragmented in the late Seventies, new generations of young listeners continue to discover the unique sounds of prog today. Examining the myths and misconceptions surrounding the genre, music journalist Mike Barnes paints a vivid, colourful picture of the Seventies based on his own interviews with the musicians, music business insiders, journalists and DJs, and the personal testimonies of fans of that extraordinary decade. Offering something new for even the keenest of prog enthusiasts, A New Day Yesterday is an entertaining and in-depth study of both the music itself and the cultural conditions and attitudes that fed into, and were affected by, this remarkable musical phenomenon.

Book excerpt: In the dark room of life we hear important echo messages coming from an unknown source, so difficult to decipher, echoes of the invisible, a poetry collection of solutions, light and revelations. In the book, the poet stretched his hands wide in discussing virtually all angles of human life, emotional, social, moral, and economical aspects of life. Echoes of the invisible; the writer used himself as a point of contact to people out there. It is magical in the sense that whoever picks this book must find a poem that resolves, discusses, consoles and confirms his current situation. He calls it the healing poem or the poems of revival. The wordings in a way tried to reconcile the vices in the society; it is a book for all, as it is more than just a poetic work of art.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Robert Flynn's new novel, Echoes of Glory centers on a fictitious Texas county that embraces its legends, but not its actual history. Set in the Reagan era, the novel exposes shared myths as lies and the truth, lacking all comfort. In his inimitable style Flynn paints a portrait of the denizens of the county who tacitly embrace the legend as all too human and all too frail. Overshadowed by the accomplishments of adjacent Doss County, Mills County clings to its legends—the legendary Mills brothers. One brother had died at the Alamo, one at Goliad, three had fought at San Jacinto. The three survivors marched into the center of Texas bringing with them stories of heroism and acorns from the San Jacinto battlefield. According to tradition, they planted an oak tree for each hero who had died at the Alamo. Then there was Timpson Smith, sole survivor of Second Platoon of Marine reserves, who had prevented the North Korean army from driving U.S. and U.N. forces into the sea. To honor their memory the county erected a monument, "Second to None," topped with the heroic figure of Timpson Smith. But there is a less heroic side of Mills County. When Deputy Sheriff Larry Maddin decides to run against Sheriff and Local Hero Timpson Smith, and a drama professor at the university announces that he will write a play depicting the true story of Second Platoon, many fear the dark underside of Mills County will be exposed.

Why did Josie, the beloved owner of Elmwood's famous diner, vanish on a cold winter night, leaving her legendary blueberry pie mid-slice? What truth lurks behind the unlit beacon of Port Breville's lighthouse, and the sudden disappearance of its keeper, Thomas Gallagher? Download or read book Footsteps Echoes in the Heart written by William Gordon Mallett and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2016 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I got my first computer in 1986. That was when I started playing with rhymes. My son by accident wiped the hard drive. That taught me to always make a hard copy of my musings. Since then I have played at my rhymes. I never thought I would get it printed. I got a new boss three years ago, and she encouraged me to take the plunge. If she had not been so positive, I probably would never of had the nerve to put it out there. I am still not confident that it is worth reading. For better or for worse, here are some of my ramblings.
