Book Echoes on Rimrock

Download or read book Echoes on Rimrock written by Buddy Levy and published by Diversion Books. This book was released on 2010-05-08 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a young boy, Buddy Levy accompanied his father into the pre-dawn twilight to hunt birds—particularly the chukar partridge. That youthful experience marked the beginning of Levy's reverence for the chukar and his indefatigable passion for hunting it. Here, Levy presents a lyrical and honest look at the world of hunting this "gorgeous, complicated, strong-flying" bird. He explores the complex (and controversial) layers of hunting through powerful descriptions of the hunt itself, the natural history of the bird, the grueling physicality of upland pursuit, the companionship of a worthy bird dog, and thoughtful reflections on the enduring allure of sport hunting.

Download or read book Arthrosonography written by Horst Sattler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sonography is a noninvasive diagnostic method that has gained an established place in many branches of medicine. Although the inability of ultrasound to penetrate bone delayed its application in the orthopedic field, the successful work of R. Graf in the early detection of pediatric hip disorders with ultra sound has served as an impetus for the increasing use of sonogra phy to detect and evaluate abnormalities of the musculoskeletal system. It is certain that further advances in this modality will be forth coming, and that sonography will be applied to new lines of inves tigation in orthopedic diagnosis. In Arthrosonography the authors use concise text and copious illustrations to demonstrate the potential applications of articular ultrasound, its diagnostic capabilities, and technical aspects of the ultrasound examination. Potential pitfalls are also explained. This book is the logical outcome of the application of diagnos tic ultrasound in orthopedics and rheumatology. It covers all basic practical aspects of arthrosonography and will be a valued re source for those concerned with the evaluation of the musculo skeletal system. Book The Pictorial Third

Download or read book The Pictorial Third written by Liliane Louvel and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-23 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Pictorial Third: An Essay into Intermedial Criticism examines the extent to which poetry intertwines with painting and the visual at large, and studies the singular relationship established between language and image, observesing the modalities and workings of what is termed ‘intermedial transposition‘. By following a critical method of the close analysis of texts, the book examines to what extent the "pictorial" tool may be of help to analyze literary texts and thus enlarge and enrich literary criticism. Examining the technical notions typical of the medium and its history, including perspective, framing, colour, anamorphosis, trompe-l’œil, Veronica veil, still life, portrait, figure, illusion, apparatus, genres and styles, this volume presents a pragmatics of image-in-text and of the visual-in-text as an operative tool. This "pictorial" reading necessarily includes synesthesia and the senses; it also functions as a reading event , or what happens to one when one unawares encounters a picture (be it present in the book or the object of an ekprhasis). Thus the body is eventually given back a role to play. The sensitive approach has its own resonances and the eye or the gaze sometimes sees double in such intermedially oriented texts. This volume proposes to identify the pictorial third as the phenomenon which can be apprehended in terms of effect or affect not only as a concept.
