For fifteen years the Dark one has pursued me. I've evaded him all this time by never settling down . . . until now. All those years on the run, I was always alone. Now I'm surrounded by the paranormal - wolves, witches, and monsters that dwell deep in the dark. I've met my alpha wolf mate, Michael, and it's hard to get close. I still live with the things the Dark one did to me. How can I open myself up to the possibility of a never-ending love and a happily ever after when I can see the Dark coming? It's hard to imagine finally living my life when I was born to fight a war I might not survive. The universe has a cruel sense of humor that I've never appreciated, especially now that I stand to lose everything I've ever wanted or will ever love.

Book excerpt: ALGOL APOCALYPSE. DAWN OF THE DEMON STAR. An unprecedented cosmic event - the Algol Parallax - wreaks havoc throughout the galaxy and spells disaster for planet Earth. Civilisation collapses. On the eve of annihilation Dr Thomas Lewis, director of Wyvern Abbey asylum, confronts the institution's most notorious inmate, Andromeda Polidori, leader of a doomsday cult whose esoteric doctrine may hold the key to salvation. His investigations propel Lewis deep into the savage heart of darkness - the emerald inferno - that has transformed the world beyond recognition ... a fantastic odyssey that culminates with the revelation of his own magickal destiny and the fate of all life. ALGOL ASYLUM combines the stylistic tropes of Gothic science fiction, Surrealism and Romanticism with the arcane symbolism of the occult, alchemy and Gnostic philosophy to create an apocalyptic epic of baleful power, invoking the radical experiments of iconic visionaries such as Aleister Crowley, HP Lovecraft, JG Ballard and Philip K Dick.

  • Pages : 392 pages

Download or read book Arcana written by John Zorn and published by Hips Road/Tzadik. This book was released on 2000 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental music has been called "difficult," perhaps more in relation to the open-mindedness needed to let it settle between your ears than the break from traditional technique required to play it. But does that explain the scarcity of critical writing about this music form relative to visual arts -- film, photography, sculpture, painting -- that also use experimentation as a main creative force? Arcana: Musicians on Music is an answer to that call. Delving into recent development in avantgarde music, this long overdue anthology looks at the current generation of experimental players and composers. Collecting writings, working notes, scores, interviews, and manifestos, editor John Zarn gets deep under the surface of experimental music, and looks at the creative methods and philosophies of some of the most innovative experimental musicians. Among the 29 contributors are: Mark Dresser, John Oswald, Marilyn Crispell, Bill Frisell, Ikue Mari, Larry Ochs, Elliott Sharp, Anthony Coleman, Fred Frith,David Roseboom, George Lewis, Guy Klucevsek, Peter Garland, Z'ev, and Gerry Hemmingway. Containing discographies and bios on the musicians presented, this book is an excellent resource for fans and critics as well as a good introduction for the curious.

  • Author : Tsitsi Ella Jaji
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2014-01-10
  • ISBN : 0199936382
  • Pages : 289 pages

Download or read book Africa in Stereo written by Tsitsi Ella Jaji and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2014-01-10 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Africa in Stereo analyzes how Africans have engaged with African American music and its representations in the long twentieth century (1890-2011) to offer a new cultural history attesting to pan-Africanism's ongoing and open theoretical potential. Tsitsi Jaji argues that African American popular music appealed to continental Africans as a unit of cultural prestige, a site of pleasure, and most importantly, an expressive form already encoded with strategies of creative resistance to racial hegemony. Ghana, Senegal and South Africa are considered as three distinctive sites where longstanding pan-African political and cultural affiliations gave expression to transnational black solidarity. The book shows how such transnational ties fostered what Jaji terms "stereomodernism." Attending to the specificity of various media through which music was transmitted and interpreted-poetry, novels, films, recordings, festivals, live performances and websites-stereomodernism accounts for the role of cultural practice in the emergence of solidarity, tapping music's capacity to refresh our understanding of twentieth-century black transnational ties.
