Book excerpt: Eau Galle Lake, one of four Corps of Engineers reservoirs surveyed during the Environmental and Water Quality Operational Studies, is a small, dimictic, flood control reservoir located in west-central Wisconsin. Major land uses in this small glaciated watershed include dairy farming, residential habitation, and agriculture. Limnological conditions (i.e., oxygen depletion, algal blooms, reduced transparency, and macrophyte infestations), which are characteristic of other eutrophic lakes in the area, are strongly influences by tributary material loading and project operation. This report documents investigative methodologies and results of general studies designed to define general water quality conditions in Eau Galle Lake and its tributaries. A subsequent report deals with the results of other, more specific water quality studies. Book excerpt: A one-dimensional model (CE-QUAL-R1) of water quality of reservoirs was evaluated using data collected on the Eau Galle Reservoir, in west-central Wisconsin. Data collected on the Eau Galle Reservoir, in west-central Wisconsin. Data collected in 1982 were used for confirmation. Graphical and statistical comparison were made for over 6.500 samples representing 21 variables. The statistical test used for comparing measured versus predicted values was the Reliability Index (RI). The average RI for each variable indicated that precision was always better than a half-order of magnitude, even for variables that ranged over more than three orders of magnitude. Graphs are presented for all variables, including profiles for the date with the poorest predictions (according to the RI). In addition, comparisons of measured and predicted flux values were satisfactory, helping to ensure that reasonable predictions were made for the correct reasons.
