Book Eat Sleep Work Repeat

Download or read book Eat Sleep Work Repeat written by Bruce Daisley and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2020-02-25 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “An important reminder of simple everyday practices to improve how we all work together, which will lead to greater team and individual happiness and performance. Great results will follow.”—Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter and Square “With just 30 changes, you can transform your work experience from bland and boring (or worse) to fulfilling, fun, and even joyful.”—Daniel Pink, author of When and Drive The vice president of Twitter Europe and host of the top business podcast Eat Sleep Work Repeat offers thirty smart, research-based hacks for bringing joy and fun back into our burned out, uninspired work lives. How does a lunch break spark a burst of productivity? Can a team’s performance be improved simply by moving the location of the coffee maker? Why are meetings so often a waste of time, and how can a walking meeting actually get decisions made? As an executive with decades of management experience at top Silicon Valley companies including YouTube, Google, and Twitter, Bruce Daisley has given a lot of thought to what makes a workforce productive and what factors can improve the workplace to benefit a company’s employees, customers, and bottom line. In his debut book, he shares what he’s discovered, offering practical, often counterintuitive, insights and solutions for reinvigorating work to give us more meaning, productivity, and joy at the office. A Gallup survey of global workers revealed shocking news: only 13% of employees are engaged in their jobs. This means that burn out and unhappiness at work are a reality for the vast majority of workers. Managers—and employees themselves—can make work better. Eat Sleep Work Repeat shows them how, offering more than two dozen research-backed, user-friendly strategies, including: Go to Lunch (it makes you less tired over the weekend) Suggest a Tea Break (it increases team cohesiveness and productivity) Conduct a Pre-Mortem (foreseeing possible issues can prevent problems and creates a spirit of curiosity and inquisitiveness) “Let’s start enjoying our jobs again,” Daisley insists. “It’s time to rediscover the joy of work.”

Now, in The Joy of Work, he shares the fruits of his discoveries. Its succinct chapters range across all aspects of 21st-century office life, tackling the key questions and offering inspiration, empirically tested insight and down-to-earth practical answers in equal measure. And what is a Monk Mode Morning, and why do people swear by it? Book excerpt: This book describes my life and experiences as a Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) worker in the oil and gas industry, from trainee to fifteen-year veteran. My career - so far - has included stints on four offshore facilities and one major onshore LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) project. I currently work on the World's largest floating object which I helped build in South Korea over a three year period. These experiences have been unique in many ways, but are conveyed in a very human way; I was not interested in writing a technical book, a history of the industry, or an environmental tome of monumental importance. This is just a story of my life as a FIFO worker during one of the busiest and most interesting times in the industry, particularly Australia. For example, my current facility was the first floating LNG plant ever designed, and is a game changer for the industry, but the process is described in laymen's terms, easy to understand. We have also seen major upheaval caused by the Covid-19 pandemic; border restrictions, enforced separation and isolation, falls in oil prices and increased Unionism. In short, this is a description of a unique way of working and living. It involves a cast of hundreds of characters, places and events, most of them amusing, some of them sad or possibly even exciting, a lot of them are things that are small in their own way but have never been presented in a book, with the possible exception of "Don't Tell Mum I Work on the Rigs, She Thinks I'm a Piano Player in a Whorehouse ". It is what we do on a day-to-day basis when we are at work, and I believe that a large amount of "normal" people are very interested in this lifestyle, apart from the 150,000 plus FIFO workers based in Australia, Canada and elsewhere. It also openly and honestly describes my descent into depression, sometimes so bad I wanted to suicide. FIFO can be hard. FIFO is a different life altogether, it comes with its own issues and problems, from distances travelled, the method of getting there, fatigue, dangerous conditions, depression, anxiety, separation from family and The World, huge relationship hurdles, as well as the concept of being trapped by the lifestyle and the large salaries, the Golden Handcuffs as we call it. In fact, this book is a study of Australian working culture in many ways with all its blemishes. The lifestyle is not for everyone, especially offshore, and many people have crashed and burned in the time I have been in the job. We do a minimum of 12 hour days, 7 days a week, up to 28 days straight, sometimes longer when storms hit or choppers fail. At the same time a lot of us get paid well and we get decent breaks where we spend that money we earn. And we work with some of the best people on the planet, even if the Companies and their management structures leave a lot to be desired. I hope you enjoy it and find it interesting.

Book excerpt: “RELOVUTIONARY’ clearly demonstrates that Jonny King has something of value to say to the church in these days. I commend his book to you.” —Jeff Crosby, Publisher, InterVarsity Press/USA PHILOSOPHY FOR TRUE HUMAN FLOURISHING Each person without exception is desperate for flourishing. Every individual hungers and aches to live an expression of the good life. This compulsion inside is as automatic as it is intuitive. This general human longing reflects a common drive for meaning, and not just for the Christian. Still, most intimately know they can't entirely do life their way. Whilst the majority readily confess, they haven't the sufficient means, or even the necessary power. After all, look at what happens when a global pandemic shuts down life?! The fact we rarely arrive at contented satisfaction becomes life's own rolling stone. Do you have a present vision? Are you confident of the process? What about any worthwhile or ultimate goal? This living challenge becomes even more practically specific for the Christian. What if someone asked you for the content of a faithful and fruitful life for Christ? What would you say? Now factor in these challenging and confronting cultural times. How would you reply? After all, you sincerely love Jesus, and passionately want to live for Him, which means you're entirely motivated to offer something not only realistic, but true. But can you? The good news is that in your hands contain the opening lines, where RELOVUTIONARY intends to be your own personal guide. Volume One introduces this idea, setting the coordinates for the reader's unfolding navigation. The context is huge, only increasing any anticipation on this series' comprehensive value. This Is Your Life has been genuinely engineered for any curious reader wanting an answer to the absurdity of existence, and for every genuine follower of Jesus Christ, determined to live a life worthy of His calling. There is no greater promise or purpose than living for Jesus-no matter age, stage, time, or place-which means there should be no further reading delay. WELCOME TO THE LIFE: RELOVUXIONARY

Because if we're going to really benefit from the radical shift of 2020, we have to rethink how we fit into an ecosystem. Elizabeth started with a simple desire to explore our relationship with work, and how it was impacting our lives. It became clear if we want to reset how we work as individuals, we're going to need to reset the work culture we exist in, the businesses we work for, the communities we're a part of, the cities we live in and the society we can shape. We can't just rethink one strand of society; we need to rethink everything together. It's time for a Reset. The Reset is a short, digestible book for people who want to work better, and live better. Elizabeth addresses our urge to work differently, to work in a way that suits more parts of our lives. It's optimistic, positive and provocative, offering fresh perspectives on the way we live now, and a punchy idea for how we might live in the future. So what's possible now that would have seemed impossible before? The Reset features interviews from: Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London Alex Mahon, CEO of Channel 4 Ete Davies, CEO of Engine Group Rachel Botsman, Oxford University's first Trust fellow Sereena Abassi, Worldwide Head of Culture and Inclusion, M&C Saatchi Anna Whitehouse (Mother Pukka), flexible working campaigner Cassandra Stavrou, Founder of Proper Indy Johar, Founder of think tank Dark Matter Labs Nadia Whittome, Labour MP for Nottingham Pip Jameson, Founder of the Dots Karen Rosenkranz, trend forecaster and consultant Joanna Lyall, UK CEO of Brainlabs
