Book The Mildred Vrooman Easter Egg Collection

Download or read book The Mildred Vrooman Easter Egg Collection written by and published by . This book was released on 2014-01-15 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book of photographs and information focuses on the unique folk art collection of decorated eggs and elaborate egg scenes created by Miss Mildred Vrooman (1909-2012). She began hand-painting eggs in 1953. The collection was housed in libraries and museums until Miss Vrooman built her own egg museum in 2001 next to her 1785 home, the Colonel Peter Vroman house, in Schoharie, New York. Miss Vrooman created fairy tale scenes such as 'The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe,' 'Alice in Wonderland,' the 'Wizard of Oz,' and 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.' She created a collection of the U.S. Presidents from George Washington to George W. Bush. She also had Easter and Christmas themes along with a recreation of 'The Last Supper.' She made historical settings including 'The Old Stone Fort,' 'The First Thanksgiving,' an antebellum Southern plantation, and an Old Dutch scene. In all, there are more than 30 of these unique, fanciful groupings all made of eggs. Miss Vrooman used all kinds of eggs ranging from large ostrich eggs to small peahen eggs. The authors of this book purchased Miss Mildred Vrooman's home along with her collection in 2013. The book was published in conjunction with a limited opening of the Mildred Vrooman Easter Egg Museum in the spring of 2014 as a fund raising project for the Schoharie Free Library.
