Book East communicates with West 1

Download or read book East communicates with West 1 written by Nomadsirius and published by 펜립. This book was released on 2023-07-21 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: East communicates with West 1(In English, 2023). Prologue. Dutch historian Johan Huizinga (1872-1945) released \"The Autumn of the Middle Ages\" in 1919, offering profound insights into the medieval era and shedding light on its dark times. With a deep understanding of language, Huizinga becomes captivated by play and devotes himself to the study of games within the course of history. The medieval period is a beautiful sunset that occurs as darkness descends, symbolized by sunsets and moonlight. Culture emerges from play as a bud of the Renaissance. The ideal life rooted in the era of the red dusk consists of three paths. Firstly, it involves escaping from the mundane world, denying worldly pleasures absolutely. Secondly, it involves striving to change the world, ardently desiring a transformed society. Thirdly, it involves filling life with fantasy, living life as a game. The paths of escape and struggle are taken by a tiny minority, while fantasy is a journey that many can embark upon. The quality of fantasy is determined by accumulated knowledge and intellectual abilities. When the realm of fantasy is beneficial and enjoyable, it truly becomes genuine play. By doing something beneficial for oneself and others, one gains wealth and prosperity.

Book The Role of Language in Eastern and Western Health Communication

Download or read book The Role of Language in Eastern and Western Health Communication written by Jack Pun and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-06-30 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jack Pun’s book offers up the latest research in a variety of health communication settings to highlight the cultural differences between the East and the West. It focuses on the various clinical strands in health communication such as doctor-patient interactions, nurse handover, and cross-disciplinary communication to provide a broad, comprehensive overview of the complexity and heterogeneity of health communication in the Chinese context, which is gradually moving beyond a preference for Western-based models to one that considers the local culture in understanding and interpreting medical encounters. The content highlights the cultural difference between the East and the West, and focuses on how traditional Chinese values underpin the nature of clinical communication in various clinical settings and how Chinese patients and practitioners conduct themselves during medical encounters. The book also covers various topics that are unique to Chinese contexts such as the use of traditional Chinese medicine in primary care, and how clinicians translate Western models of communication when working in Chinese contexts with Chinese patients. This volume will appeal to researchers working in health communication in both the East and West as well as clinicians interested in understanding what makes effective communication with multicultural patient cohorts.

Book East and West Modes of Communication

Download or read book East and West Modes of Communication written by Evangelos Chrysos and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-07-24 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The End of Antiquity saw an increase in the divide between East and West. This crucial development in the history of the Late and Post-Roman World was addressed in a series of linked papers delivered at the first plenary conference of the European Science Foundation's scientific programme on the Transformation of the Roman World, held in 1995. A group of leading scholars (Beat Brenk, Peter Brown, Averil Cameron, Christian Hannick, N. Oikonomedes, Lennard Ryden) addressed questions of social, cultural, artistic and linguistic change, concentrating largely on developments within the East, while changes in the West were explored in a series of responses (from Michel Banniard, Mayke de Jong, Alain Dierkens, Niels Hannestad, Walter Pohl, Ian Wood). In addition, the history of Late Roman and Visigothic Merida, the setting for the conference, was set out by Javier Arce. Together these papers constitute a major exploration of the social and cultural changes in East and West in the period of the Transformation of the Roman World. To this collection are added two papers, by Paolo Delogu and Thomas F.X. Noble, delivered in the course of the third and final plenary congress of the programme, held in Isernia in 1997, assessing the achievement of the whole project at the end of five years of conferences and workshops.

Book Crossing Design Boundaries

Download or read book Crossing Design Boundaries written by Paul Rodgers and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-02-01 with total page 772 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents over 100 papers from the 3rd Engineering & Product Design Education International Conference dedicated to the subject of exploring novel approaches in product design education. The theme of the book is "Crossing Design Boundaries" which reflects the editors’ wish to incorporate many of the disciplines associated with, and integral to, modern product design and development pursuits. Crossing Design Boundaries covers, for example, the conjunction of anthropology and design, the psychology of design products, the application of soft computing in wearable products, and the utilisation of new media and design and how these can be best exploited within the current product design arena. The book includes discussions concerning product design education and the cross-over into other well established design disciplines such as interaction design, jewellery design, furniture design, and exhibition design which have been somewhat under represented in recent years. The book comprises a number of sections containing papers which cover highly topical and relevant issues including Design Curriculum Development, Interdisciplinarity, Design Collaboration and Team Working, Philosophies of Design Education, Design Knowledge, New Materials and New Technologies in Design, Design Communication, Industrial Collaborations and Working with Industry, Teaching and Learning Tools, and Design Theory.

Book Rhetoric at the Non Substantialistic Turn

Download or read book Rhetoric at the Non Substantialistic Turn written by Therese Boos Dykeman and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2018-05-04 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rhetoric at the Non-Substantialistic Turn: The East-West Coin presents a unique theory of rhetoric that encompasses both Eastern and Western approaches. Based on the Field-Being philosophy founded by Lik Kuen Tong, this theory gives an account of the ontological foundations of both kinds of rhetoric. Beginning with an exposition of the nature of Field-Being rhetoric as Eastern and Western, this book presents chapters on Eastern and Western rhetoric over history as power, ethics, art, creativity, politics, and communication. It acknowledges the thinking of many philosophers and rhetoricians who have contributed to East-West comparative studies in both fields and argues that both understandings of rhetoric are necessary for global communication.
