Book Earth s Magnetic Field Secrets

Download or read book Earth s Magnetic Field Secrets written by Dennis Brooks and published by Speedy Publishing LLC. This book was released on 2015-03-04 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Old Theory Until now, there was only one theory regarding the source of Earth's magnetic field, which is the internal dynamo theory. This theory was accepted because it offered the best explanation at the time. Also, much research has been done to support the theory. According to the internal dynamo theory, a dynamo near the center of the planet generates the current that produces the magnetic field. This dynamo would be in the liquid outer core of the planet. It would produce the magnetic axis and project it from the planet. The axis would expand and spread the magnetic field around the planet. This theory also suggests that the internal dynamo is sustaining itself by using fuel from Earth's core. The internal dynamo theory has changed over the years. At first scientists thought that a bar magnet was in the center of the planet and the compass needle pointed to the poles of that magnet. This made perfect sense at the time because we can see that the same thing happens when we put a compass near a bar magnet. The Bar Magnet In The Sun image demonstrates the idea of the bar magnet theory. However, this example shows the bar magnet imbedded within the sun because just like the planets, the sun also has a magnetic field, which is more complex than Earth's magnetic field. Scientists have tried to use the internal dynamo theory to explain the magnetic fields of all the planets, some moons, and the sun. However, the old model does not work for the sun, moon, and other planets. The bar magnet concept lasted a long time as the main theory regarding the source of Earth's magnetic field. However, while trying to apply it to other cases, scientists found problems with the theory. Over the years, they discovered that a bar magnet could not hold magnetism above the temperature of 770 degrees centigrade because high heat destroys magnetism. This caused the theory to gradually evolve over time.

Book Secrets of Earth s Magnetic Field

Book excerpt: Researchers first thought a huge magnet ran through the planet. Next, they thought there was a dynamo in the inner core. Then, they thought a dynamo might exist in the outer core of the planet. Recently, scientists have been studying the dynamo that is found with every planet that has a magnetic field. This research has shown that the outer dynamo system is the source of the magnetic field. The magnetic field of each planet (Earth, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune) is produced by the ring currents in the radiation belts. Each planet is a component of the dynamo system that produces the magnetic field.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This “fantastic story” of one of physics’ great riddles takes us through centuries of scientific history (Simon Lamb, author of Devil in the Mountain). Why do compass needles point north—but not quite north? What guides the migration of birds, whales, and fish across the world’s oceans? How is Earth able to sustain life under an onslaught of solar wind and cosmic radiation? For centuries, the world’s great scientists have grappled with these questions, all rooted in the same phenomenon: Earth’s magnetism. Over two thousand years after the invention of the compass, Einstein called the source of Earth’s magnetic field one of greatest unsolved mysteries of physics. Here, for the first time, is the complete history of the quest to understand the planet’s attractive pull—from the ancient Greeks’ fascination with lodestone to the geological discovery that the North Pole has not always been in the North—and to the astonishing modern conclusions that finally revealed the true source. Richly illustrated and skillfully told, North Pole, South Pole unfolds the human story behind the science: that of the inquisitive, persevering, and often dissenting thinkers who unlocked the secrets at our planet’s core. “In recent years, many very good books for interested non-scientists have been published: Richard Dawkins’s Climbing Mount Improbable and The Ancestor’s Tale, Stephen Jay Gould’s The Lying Stones of Marrakech, and Dava Sobel’s Longitude and The Planets, to name some of them. North Pole, South Pole . . . is a worthy addition to that list . . . Turner has a great story to tell, and she tells it well.” —The Press (New Zealand)

Download or read book The Spinning Magnet written by Alanna Mitchell and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2018-01-30 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mystery of Earth's invisible, life-supporting power Alanna Mitchell's globe-trotting history of the science of electromagnetism and the Earth's magnetic field--right up to the latest indications that the North and South Poles may soon reverse, with apocalyptic results--will soon change the way you think about our planet. Award-winning journalist Alanna Mitchell's science storytelling introduce intriguing characters--from the thirteenth-century French investigations into magnetism and the Victorian-era discover that electricity and magnetism emerge from the same fundamental force to the latest research. No one has ever told so eloquently how the Earth itself came to be seen as a magnet, spinning in space with two poles, and that those poles have dramatically reversed many time, often coinciding with mass extinctions. The most recent reversal was 780,000 years ago. Mitchell explores indications that the Earth's magnetic force field is decaying faster than previously thought. When the poles switch, a process that takes many years, the Earth is unprotected from solar radiation storms that would, among other disturbances, wipe out much and possible all of our electromagnetic technology. Navigation for all kinds of animals is disrupted without a stable, magnetic North Pole. But can you imagine no satellites, no Internet, no smartphones--maybe no power grids at all? Alanna Mitchell offers a beautifully crafted narrative history of surprising ideas and science, illuminating invisible parts of our own planet that are constantly changing around us.

Book The Secret Influence of the Moon

Download or read book The Secret Influence of the Moon written by Louis Proud and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Moon is not a cold, dead rock but a rich, fascinating world just as alive as Earth • Investigates the Moon as the home of an alien intelligence who controls humanity • Examines several of NASA’s Apollo missions and the findings they concealed • Reveals the many holes in the “Giant Impact” theory about the Moon’s origins and the evidence for a hollow, artificial Moon • Explores the deep influence of the Moon on the collective mind of humanity and occult teachings about the Moon from the Qabbalah, tarot, and other sources Despite being the most prominent celestial body after the Sun, the Moon has many qualities that science has yet to explain. Lunar rock samples reveal the Moon once had a magnetic field like the Earth, and seismic experiments by NASA suggest the Moon is at least partially hollow. For centuries people have observed lights, moving clouds and shadows, and even the disappearance of entire craters via telescope. Apollo astronauts repeatedly felt the presence of a “non-human intelligence” during their Moon visits, and many indigenous traditions speak of malevolent visitors from the Moon. A growing body of astrophysical and geological evidence shows the Moon is not an entirely natural world--that someone or something altered it long ago. Louis Proud explores the phases and movements of the Moon along with its ancient and mysterious features--its craters, maria, rilles, tunnels, and domes. He examines several of NASA’s Apollo missions, showing not that NASA faked the Moon expeditions but that they concealed what the astronauts found there. He explains the many holes in the commonly accepted “Giant Impact” theory of the Moon’s origins and reveals the evidence for a hollow, artificial Moon placed in orbit eons ago to observe Earth. Examining the deep influence of the Moon on the collective mind of humanity, Proud looks at what the Qabbalah, the tarot, and other occult traditions say about the Moon and interprets G. I. Gurdjieff’s teachings that “we are food for the Moon.” He investigates the Moon as a gateway to another realm, as the Purgatory of Christianity, and as the home of an alien intelligence who controls and exploits humanity. Examining the Moon from both scientific and esoteric perspectives, Proud shows the Moon is not a cold, dead rock but a rich, fascinating world just as alive as Earth.

Book Secret of Electricity

Download or read book Secret of Electricity written by Amin Elsersawi and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-06-15 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Elsersawi, a pioneer in the filed of electricity and its effect in living things, challenges the traditional mechanistic in our thinking about the living inner process of magnetism. He found clues to the interaction between electromagnetic field and the human body. Like the gravity of the earth and the quantum in the universe, the magnet has different effect on different regions of the earth and the universe. The strength and location of natural magnetic fields on the earth can influence our minds, alter our character, and noticeably affect our health. The text explains the effect of magnetic fields on humans at different altitudes on the earth. For example, the intensity of magnetic fields at the two poles is greater than at the equator. This reference explores the sources, characteristics, health hazards and benefits of electromagnetic fields (EM), of low-frequency fields and of radio frequency radiations. Pulsed Electro Magnetic Field Therapy (PEMF) is also expressed in pain relief, osteoporosis treatment, fibromyalgia treatment, fracture healing, rheumatic pain, and stress reduction. More over, electricity and electromagnetic fields do affect the spiritual quality of the human. Electricity can vibrate cells, nerves, bones, organs, and change the chemical reaction and metabolism. Disharmonious or unbalanced vibrations show themselves in many ways including discomfort, disease, illness, fatigue, and a variety of different symptoms. Higher vibrations mean healthy body, and low vibrations mean an ailing body. Interestingly, particular electromagnetic waves can cause degenerative disorder of the central nervous system (the brain), which leads to Parkinson's and Huntington's diseases, and impairments both in sequence learning, and in the initiation and termination of voluntary movements. The book contains materials describing different waves of EM of alpha, beta and Gamma to explain their interaction with biological systems.

Book The Magnetic Field of the Earth

Download or read book The Magnetic Field of the Earth written by Ronald T. Merrill and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Topics involved in studies of the Earth's magnetic field and its secular variation range from the intricate observations of geomagnetism, to worldwide studies of archeomagnetism and paleomagnetism, through to the complex mathematics of dynamo theory. Traditionally these different aspects of geomagnetism have in the main been studied and presented in isolation from each other. This text draws together these lines of inquiry into an integrated framework to highlight the interrelationships and thus to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the geomagnetic field.
