Book Earth Pressure Retaining Walls and Bins Classic Reprint

Download or read book Earth Pressure Retaining Walls and Bins Classic Reprint written by William Cain and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-06 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Earth Pressure, Retaining Walls and Bins Over a century ago, Coulomb formulated the laws of friction and cohesion as affecting a mass of earth, and devised the sliding wedge hypothesis to effect the computation of earth thrust against a wall. For some reason - doubtless on account of the complexity of the analysis and lack of experimental determina tion of the coefficients of cohesion - the theory of earth pressure was subsequently developed by many noted authors (poncelet, Weyrauch, and others) after Coulomb's hypothesis, but for an earth supposed, to be devoid of cohesion. In 1856, Rankine published his notable theory of earth pressure, deriving it from considerations pertaining to the equilibrium of an infinitesimal wedge of earth in the interior of a mass of homogeneous earth, supposed to have a free plane surface. Again, the earth was supposed to be devoid of cohesion and likewise to be subjected to no other external force but its own weight. Book Retaining Walls

Download or read book Retaining Walls written by George Paaswell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-18 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Retaining Walls: Their Design and Construction The presentation Of another book on retaining walls is made with the plea that it is essentially a text on the design and con struction Of retaining walls. The usual text on this subject places much emphasis upon the determination of the lateral thrust Of the retained earth; the design and construction Of the wall itself is subordinated to this analysis. Without gainsaying the importance Of the proper analysis Of the action Of earth masses, it is felt that such is properly Of secondary importance in comparison with the design Of the wall itself and the study Of the practical problems involved in its construction. It is the purpose Of the first chapter to present the existing theories Of lateral earth pressure and then to attempt to codify such theories evolving a simple, yet well-founded expression for the thrust. An attempt is made to continue this codification throughout the theories Of retaining wall design so that a direct and continu ous analysis may be made Of a wall from the preliminary selection Of the type to the finished section. Such mathematical work as is presented is given with this essential Object in view. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Earth Pressure and Earth Retaining Structures Second Edition

Download or read book Earth Pressure and Earth Retaining Structures Second Edition written by Chris R.I. Clayton and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1993-01-07 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Retaining structures form an important component of many civil engineering and geotechnical engineering projects. Careful design and construction of these structures is essential for safety and longevity. This new edition provides significantly more support for non-specialists, background to uncertainty of parameters and partial factor issues that underpin recent codes (e.g. Eurocode 7), and comprehensive coverage of the principles of the geotechnical design of gravity walls, embedded walls and composite structures. It is written for practising geotechnical, civil and structural engineers; and forms a reference for engineering geologists, geotechnical researchers and undergraduate civil engineering students.

Download or read book Graphical Determination of Earth Slopes Retaining Walls and Dams Classic Reprint written by Charles Prelini and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-13 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Graphical Determination of Earth Slopes, Retaining Walls and Dams The fourth chapter is devoted to the design of retaining walls. Here will be found the most common types of wall used in practice, together with the manner of determining the thickness of their bases both graphically and analytically. The fifth chapter is devoted to dams. The space devoted to a subject so popular and extensively discussed in schools and text-books may seem disproportionately small; but in the class room, dams should be taken for what they are; viz. A particular case of retaining walls in which the mate rial to be sustained is deprived of friction. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
