Passing over a generation, the spirit of his grandfather seems to have reappeared in Charles Darwin with intensified power and precision. We need not here enter into the delicate distinctions which exist between the develop mental theories of Erasmus, which were prematurely sown in unfruitful and unprepared soil, and those Of his greater grand son, which have revolutionised research and thought in every department of human activity.
