Book Early Childhood Care and Education at the Margins

Download or read book Early Childhood Care and Education at the Margins written by Hasina Ebrahim and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of early childhood care and education (ECCE) in the lives of very young children is gaining increasing attention around the globe and yet there is a persistent lack of diverse knowledge perspectives on this critical phase. This stems from dominant Eurocentric framings of early childhood research, and related theories. Early Childhood Care and Education at the Margins provides contextual accounts of ECCE in Africa in order to build multiple perspectives and to promote responsive thought and actions. The book is an entry point to knowledge production for birth to three in Africa and responds to the call for the field to be in dialogue with different perspectives that attempt to map concepts, debates and contemporary concerns. In this book, a group of African authors, representing both Anglophone and Francophone Africa, provide insider's perspectives on a wide range of geographic, cultural and thematic positions. In so doing, they show the breadth and depth of ideas on which the ECCE field draws. The chapters in the volume highlight a range of topics including poverty, early socialisation, local care practices, gendered roles, and service provision. They open up important points of departure for thinking about ECCE policy, practice, theory and research. The book presents African perspectives in a globalising world. It is therefore suitable for an international readership. It includes cross-cultural comparisons as well as critiques of dominant discourses which will be of particular interest to academics, researchers and postgraduate students active in the field of ECCE, childhood studies, cultural studies and comparative education.

Book International Research on Education for Sustainable Development in Early Childhood

Download or read book International Research on Education for Sustainable Development in Early Childhood written by John Siraj-Blatchford and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-14 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a perspective on Education for Sustainable Development in Early Childhood (ESDEC) that is far removed from the ‘business as usual’ notion of an extended, predominantly environmental, educational curriculum for preschools. It presents a vision of sustainable development that has relevance to Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) from birth to school; it is relevant as much to homes, family support and health settings as it is to educational settings, and is as much concerned with health and wellbeing as with education. The book provides a perspective that is fundamentally embedded in notions of interdependency. It places an emphasis upon the importance of recognising the interdependency of peoples within and between nation states; the ecological interdependencies of the natural world; of humanity and nature; and most significantly the interdependency of adults and children. These emphases have their origins in the grassroots studies included in the ten chapters representing countries from around the world. The book reflects the idea that only global solutions and initiatives are capable of addressing the global challenges of climate change, environmental pollution, and global threats to ecological systems and biodiversity.

Book Education to be More

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the report of a working group formed by the Government of New Zealand to assist in establishing a more equitable system of early childhood care and education (ECCE) than presently exists. The working group was asked to investigate all state and independent arrangements for the care and education of infants and children up to the age of 6 years, and to advise on: (1) costs and benefits of ECCE; (2) the roles of the family, community, and government; (3) the role of the government in relation to children as society's future; (4) equity of access to and equitable funding for complementary care and education; (5) the balance between private and social costs, and the impact of the social costs on the government's budget; (6) the appropriate arrangements for policy advice and implementation of policy, including reform if necessary; and (7) appropriate transitional arangements. In addition, the working group addressed issues related to ECCE for children with special needs. With the release of the report of the Taskforce to Review Education Administration (the Picot report), it was logical for the working group to consider the task force's recommendations and incorporate the task force's proposed model whenever it was practical for the ECCE sector.
