Book Lower and Middle Jurassic Radiolarian Biostratigraphy and Systematic Paleontology Queen Charlotte Islands British Columbia

Download or read book Lower and Middle Jurassic Radiolarian Biostratigraphy and Systematic Paleontology Queen Charlotte Islands British Columbia written by E. S. Carter and published by Geological Survey of Canada. This book was released on 1988 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extensive geological investigation of Mesozoic strata of the Pacific Rim is currently underway to determine the hydrocarbon potential of these rocks. Precise biostratigraphic control is essential for advances and substantial new information on the Jurassic biostratigraphy and taxonomy of Jurassic radiolarians from the Queen Charlotte Islands is presented in this report. Five new genera and 42 new species are described, most of which have restricted, and therefore useful, biostratigraphic ranges. A preliminary radiolarian zonation is proposed, calibrated with associated ammonite and foraminiferal faunas.

Book Cordillera and Pacific Margin

Download or read book Cordillera and Pacific Margin written by Geological Survey of Canada and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary role of the Survey, founded in 1842, continues to be to provide an overview of all facets of Canadian geology as a basis for national policy, for planning by government and industry, and for public information. This volume contains summary reports of research on the Corderilla and Pacific Margin of Canada, one of the four regional areas studied.

Book Radiolarians in the Sedimentary Record

Download or read book Radiolarians in the Sedimentary Record written by P. De Wever and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2002-02-28 with total page 700 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radiolarians in the Sedimentary Record presents the current state of knowledge on fossil radiolarians. The author discusses the record, as well as new integrated taxonomic systems at the family level. The book provides comprehensive coverage of the fossil record of these unicellular organisms. It also discusses their important role in the history of the Earth and their development of the biosphere. This text will prove indispensable for graduate students and researchers in geology, oceanography and earth sciences.

Book The Jurassic of the Circum Pacific

Download or read book The Jurassic of the Circum Pacific written by Gerd Ernst Gerold Westermann and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2005-09-15 with total page 696 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work, 60 specialists come together to discuss the regional occurrences of Jurassic rocks. Not only is this the first comprehensive synthesis of Jurassic geology and palaeontology, but it is in fact the only one of its kind for any geological system.

Book Jurassic Stratigraphy of the Queen Charlotte Islands British Columbia

Download or read book Jurassic Stratigraphy of the Queen Charlotte Islands British Columbia written by B. E. B. Cameron and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "During the course of the present detailed stratigraphic studies careful attention was paid to occurrences of bitumen, dead oil, fetid lithologies, and possible porous intervals within the Jurassic rocks. Hydrocarbons, derived from normal petroleum type hydrocarbons, were noted throughout the lower and middle Jurassic. The present evidence suggests that hydrocarbon reserves may be encountered in the subsurface in northern Graham Island, southern Hecate Strait, and Queen Charlotte Sound. These potential resources involve mesozoic oil within the Jurassic or Cretaceous rocks, or escape oil of Mesozoic age in Tertiary sandstone units." --

Book Faunal and Floral Migration and Evolution in SE Asia Australasia

Download or read book Faunal and Floral Migration and Evolution in SE Asia Australasia written by Ian Metcalfe and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2001-06-01 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This multidisciplinary book focuses on the relationships and interactions between palaeobiogeography, biogeography, dispersal, vicariance, migrations and evolution of organisms in the SE Asia-Australasian region. The book investigates biogeographic links between SE Asia and Australasia which go back more than 500 million years. It also focuses on the links between geological evolution and biological migrations and evolution in the region. It was in the SE Asian region that Alfred Russell Wallace established his biogeographic line, now known as Wallace's Line, which was the beginning of biogeography. Wallace also independently developed his theory of evolution based on his work in this area.;The book brings together, for the first time, geologists, palaeontologists, zoologists, botanists, entomologists, evolutionary biologists and archaeologists, in the one volume, to relate the region's geological past to its present biological peculiarities. The book is organized into six sections. Section 1 Paleobiogeographic Background provides overviews of the geological and tectonic evolution of SE Asia-Australasia, and changing patterns of land and sea for the last 540 million years. Section 2 Palaeozoic and Mesozoic Geology and Biogeography discusses Palaeozoic and Mesozoic biogeography of conodonts, brachiopods, plants, dinosaurs and radiolarians and the recognition of ancient biogeographic boundaries or Wallace Lines in the region. Section 3 Wallace's Line focuses on the biogeographic boundary established by Wallace, including the history of its establishment, its significance to biogeography in general and its applicability in the context of modern biogeography.;Section 4 Plant biogeography and evolution includes discussion on primitive angiosperms, the diaspora of the southern rushes, and environmental, climatic and evolutionary implications of plants and palynomorphs in the region. The biogeography and migration of insects, butterflies, birds, rodents and other non-primate mammals is discussed in section 5, Non Primates. The final section 6 Primates focuses on the biogeographic radiation, migration and evolution of primates and includes papers on the occurrence and migration of early hominids and the requirements for human colonization of Australia.

Book The Triassic Timescale

Download or read book The Triassic Timescale written by Spencer G. Lucas and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2010 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mesozoic Era begins with the approximately 50-million-year-long Triassic Period, a major juncture in Earth history when the vast Pangaean supercontinent completed its assembly and began its fragmentation, and the global biota diversified and modern-ized after the end-Permian mass extinction, the most extensive biotic decimation of the Phanerozoic. The temporal ordering of geological and biotic events during Triassic time thus is critical to the interpretation of some unique and pivotal events in Earth his-tory. This temporal ordering is mostly based on the Triassic time-scale, which has been developed and refined for nearly two centu-ries. This book reviews the state of the art of the Triassic timescale and includes comprehensive analyses of Triassic radio-isotopic ages, magnetostratigraphy, isotope-based and cyclostratigraphic correlations and timescale -relevant marine and non-marine bio-stratigraphy.
