  • Author : Ben Saul
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing
  • Release : 2012-02-07
  • ISBN : 184731905X
  • Pages : 1620 pages

Download or read book Terrorism written by Ben Saul and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2012-02-07 with total page 1620 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International anti-terrorism measures existed long before 11 September 2001 but have increased markedly since. A myriad of norms in different branches of law are now deployed to confront transnational and domestic terrorism. There is also a proliferating body of 'soft law' addressing terrorism, stemming from United Nations organs, specialised international bodies and regional organisations. It is timely to draw together these diverse legal developments over time into a single reference work. Bringing the original documents together provides for ease of reference and enables scholars, practitioners and students to more easily compare and contrast various sources. The book's coverage is comprehensive (thematically, organisationally, geographically and temporally) and open to a balance of sources (hard and soft), but is judicious in its selection and prioritisation of the most significant and representative documents - in a field where there are many repetitive or insubstantial documents. Importantly, the book looks beyond the traditional trans-Atlantic bias towards European, British and American sources in this area to include materials from Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. Taken as a whole, the book aids in evidencing the emerging field of international anti-terrorism law.

Book Textbook of Palliative Medicine

Download or read book Textbook of Palliative Medicine written by Eduardo Bruera and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2009-01-30 with total page 1131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Textbook of Palliative Medicine provides an alternative, truly international approach to this rapidly growing specialty. This textbook fills a niche with its evidence-based, multi-professional approach and global perspective ensured by the international team of editors and contributing authors. In the absence of an international curriculum for the study of palliative medicine, this textbook provides essential guidance for those both embarking upon a career in palliative medicine or already established in the field, and the structure and content have been constructed very much with this in mind. With an emphasis on providing a service anywhere in the world, including the important issue of palliative care in the developing nations, Textbook of Palliative Medicine offers a genuine alternative to the narrative approach of its competitors, and is an ideal complement to them. It is essential reading for all palliative care physicians in training and in practice, as well as palliative care nurses and other health professionals in the palliative care team

Book The Alzheimer s Disease Challenge Volume II

Download or read book The Alzheimer s Disease Challenge Volume II written by Mohammad Amjad Kamal and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-04-15 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given the success of Volume I of this Research Topic, we are pleased to announce the launch of Volume II: “The Alzheimer's Disease Challenge”. The repeated failure of clinical trials on the amyloid-based medications and the pessimistic calculations of Alzheimer's disease cost burden for the next few decades present a severe challenge to humankind with severe social implications. In recent years, several alternative diagnostic and treatment procedures have been presented to treat and manage Alzheimer’s disease as it has been nearly impossible to suggest a holistic solution. Several revelations in human biology have highlighted the multiparametric character of the disease. Besides the amyloid aggregation and neurofibrillary tangles that result in Aβ toxicity and tau phosphorylation, processes such as Gene Mutations, Proteins Misfolding, Brain Biochemical and Histopathological Changes, Behavioral Changes, Nutrition and Metabolism Alterations, and Autonomic Dysfunctions due to Central Nervous System dysregulations are common signs and probably early diagnostic biomarkers in most of the Alzheimer's classification categories.

Book NATO and Weapons of Mass Destruction

Download or read book NATO and Weapons of Mass Destruction written by Eric Terzuolo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2009-05-07 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NATO was hugely successful in facing off the Soviet Union during the Cold War. But has it been equally successful in addressing the "new threats" of the post-Cold War era? This new study assesses the organization’s political and military initiatives, and how its outreach to Russia, Ukraine, and other countries in the Euro-Atlantic and Mediterranean regions, devoted considerable attention to WMD proliferation risks. It also probes the political factors, both inside and outside NATO, as well as resource constraints, which have limited the alliance's "added value" in the international community's effort to combat proliferation. The events of 11 September 2001 and bitter intra-alliance controversy over the 2003 Iraq intervention have highlighted questions regarding NATO's future role, and even its continued viability. This is a serious reflection on how the alliance should figure in the fight against WMD and terrorist threats and an examination of today’s key issues, including the use of force in international relations and the possibility of constructing new, post-Cold War collective security rules. This is the first study to evaluate, critically and in-depth, how a long-standing security organization has adapted - and must continue to adapt - to the global security challenges of our time. This book will be of great interest to all students and scholars of international politics, military history and all readers interested in the future of NATO and international security.

Book Armed Conflict Women and Climate Change

Download or read book Armed Conflict Women and Climate Change written by Jody M. Prescott and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-11-21 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The gender-differentiated and more severe impacts of armed conflict upon women and girls are well recognised by the international community, as demonstrated by UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 on Women, Peace and Security and subsequent resolutions. Similarly, the development community has identified gender-differentiated impacts upon women and girls as a result of the effects of climate change. Current research and analysis has reached no consensus as to any causal relationship between climate change and armed conflict, but certain studies suggest an indirect linkage between climate change effects such as food insecurity and armed conflict. Little research has been conducted on the possible compounding effects that armed conflict and climate change might have on at-risk population groups such as women and girls. Armed Conflict, Women and Climate Change explores the intersection of these three areas and allows the reader to better understand how military organisations across the world need to be sensitive to these relationships to be most effective in civilian-centric operations in situations of humanitarian relief, peacekeeping and even armed conflict. This book examines strategy and military doctrine from NATO, the UK, US and Australia, and explores key issues such as displacement, food and energy insecurity, and male out-migration as well as current efforts to incorporate gender considerations in military activities and operations. This innovative book will be of great interest to students and scholars of international relations, international development, international security, sustainability, gender studies and law.

Book Macroeconomics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jagdish Handa
  • Publisher : World Scientific Publishing Company
  • Release : 2010-09-24
  • ISBN : 9814365238
  • Pages : 612 pages

Download or read book Macroeconomics written by Jagdish Handa and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2010-09-24 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the stylized facts on the important variables (output, inflation, money supply and interest rates, etc.) of the macro economy and uses them to differentiate how well particular economic theories perform or fail to do so. On the determination of aggregate demand, this book presents two approaches: the traditional IS-LM analysis under the assumption that the money supply is exogenous because the central bank uses its monetary policy to control it, and the emerging IS-IRT analysis under the assumption that the interest rate is the exogenous monetary policy variable set by the central bank to manipulate aggregate demand in the economy. The IS-IRT analysis is important for the macro analyses of many economies, yet is totally neglected in most textbooks on macroeconomics. The chapter on Paradigms in Economics introduces students to the heritage of ideas in macroeconomics, and the evolution of ideas and approaches over the last two centuries. It also provides the justification for the simultaneous relevance of both Classical ideas and Keynesian ones. The two growth theory chapters go beyond the Solow growth model to cover the broad evolution of growth from Malthus's theory to the present endogenous approaches, and the link between money supply, inflation and growth over very long periods. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides information on the ongoing transformation of the Eurasian region, offering a theoretical background and a discussion of the security complex characteristics of Eurasia, the roles of the “New Great Game”, and recent opportunities and challenges in the region, such as the new Silk Road. It examines the changes that are taking place beyond the dissolution of the Soviet Union, independence, and the energy and security parameters in the Eurasian region. Eurasia, with its various historical, geographic, economic and socio-political characteristics, its energy resources, transportation routes, and unsolved conflicts, is a region undergoing dramatic and complex change. The book also analyses the background of the desecuritization and integration of the region, exploring the geographical, economic and socio-political characteristics of the region and the nature of the involvement of both regional and external powers.
