Book excerpt: We present an overview of cross-section measurements at BABAR. In e{sup {+-}} → few-body processes at a center-of-mass energy E{sub CM} = 10.6 GeV we make new QCD tests and the first observation of two-virtual-photon annihilations into hadrons. Studies at lower √s, using radiative return, yield new/improved data on spectroscopy, form factors and the total hadronic cross section, an important input to calculations of g{sub {mu}}-2 and [alpha](M{sub Z}). We also present an inclusive measurement of the running of [alpha].

This book was released on 2007 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present an inclusive measurement of [Delta][alpha]{sub had}{sup (5)}(m{sub Z}2) at BABAR using the Initial State Radiation (ISR) technique in ee− interactions to simultaneously explore the whole low energy range at reduced center-of-mass energies below 7 GeV, where the current knowledge of ee− 2!hadrons production limits the precision of the prediction of the running of [alpha]. The BABAR ISR data sample is considerably larger than existing e+e− R scan measurement data over most of the low energy range, and there are also many systematic advantages with the ISR technique to allow significantly improved precision on the integral for [Delta][alpha]{sub had}{sup (5)}(m{sub Z}2). This thesis reports on a measurement of [Delta][alpha]{sub had}{sup (5)}(m{sub Z}2) at the 3% precision level, improving on the current knowledge of this quantity.

Book excerpt: We present recent measurements of hadronic cross-sections from the BaBar experiment and report preliminary results on searches for pentaquark states. Studies of hadronic cross-sections using initial-state radiation offer promising prospects at BaBar. Many exclusive channels have already been measured, and more are in progress. A fully inclusive analysis should also offer a precise measurement of {Delta}{alpha}{sub QED}{sup Had}. Searches for pentaquark states have so far been negative, but they have served to highlight the potential for the study of charmed and non-charmed baryons at high-luminosity e{sup +}e{sup -} colliders.
Download or read book Hadron Spectroscopy written by Eberhard Klempt and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 2004-09-13 with total page 1006 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main topic of the conference was the physics of strong interaction and the understanding of how quarks form hadrons, which are part of the atomic nucleus. The proceedings give a comprehensive overview of the present status of the physics of hadrons. Topics include: mesons, baryons, scalars, exotics, heavy quarks, theoretical concepts, hadrons in matter, and reactions. The timing of the conference was very fortunate as many new and surprising results appeared in the months before its start. The highlights were the discussions about the nature of the recently discovered arrow states.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a review of BaBar results on ee− → hadrons using the initial state radiation technique. Cross sections over the √s range from threshold to 4-5 GeV, with very small point-to-point systematic errors, are presented for the?+?−?°, 2(?+?−), 2(K+K−), 3(?+?−), 2(?+?−)2?°, 2(?+?−)K+K−, and p{bar p} final states. The preliminary results of e+e− → K+K−?+?− and e+e− → K+K−?°?° cross sections are also presented.

Download or read book Multiquark Hadrons written by Ahmed Ali and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2019-04-25 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work summarises the salient features of current and planned experiments into multiquark hadrons, describing various inroads to accommodate them within a theoretical framework. At a pedagogical level, authors review the salient aspects of quantum chromodynamics (QCD), the theory of strong interactions, which has been brought to the fore by high-energy physics experiments over recent decades. Compact diquarks as building blocks of a new spectroscopy are presented and confronted with alternative explanations of the XYZ resonances. Ways to distinguish among theoretical alternatives are illustrated, to be tested with the help of high luminosity LHC, electron-positron colliders, and the proposed Tera-Z colliders. Non-perturbative treatments of multiquark hadrons, such as large N expansion, lattice QCD simulations, and predictions about doubly heavy multiquarks are reviewed in considerable detail. With a broad appeal across high-energy physics, this work is pertinent to researchers focused on experiments, phenomenology or lattice QCD.

This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: BABAR has measured with unprecedented accuracy the e+e- → pp-bar and e+e- → [Lambda][Lambda]-bar cross sections by means of the initial state radiation technique, which has the advantages of good efficiency and energy resolution, and full angular acceptance in the threshold region. A striking feature of these cross sections is their non-vanishing values at threshold. In the case of charged baryons, the phenomenon is well understood in terms of the Coulomb interaction between the outgoing baryon and antibaryon. However, such an effect is not expected for neutral baryons. We suggest a simple explanation for both charged and neutral baryon pairs based on Coulomb interactions at the valence quark level.

Book excerpt: A mini-review of the recent BaBar and Belle results on the process ee− 2!hadrons using the initial state radiation (ISR) technique, is presented. ISR studies at the [Upsilon](4s) resonance (B-Factories) can yield to the same observables as the low energy ee− experiments: Precise cross-section measurements, the R ratio (ratio of cross-sections of hadron production to di-muon production) measurement, form factors measurements (from hadron pair production such as e+e− 2!p{bar p}, [Lambda]{bar [Lambda]}, {Lambda}{bar [Sigma]}, {Sigma}{bar {Sigma}}), as well as J{sup PC} = 1−− hadron spectroscopy that can lead to the discovery of new states.
