This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This research builds on universal and contingent approaches to project management to propose a successful global management model of technology transfer and innovation project. Indeed, universal approaches carried by standards perceive the project as an object endowed with natural specificities, stable, isolated from contingency factors. From positivist posture resulting from Taylorism, universal models are manifested by the linear universe and the rigorous application of best management practices to achieve project performance. These are postures that align with the prescriptive optimization approach. They are characterized by the principles, procedures and standards that imprison managers. They perceive the project as a programmable "machine" and the individuals who perform the tasks are perceived as "pawns". In recent decades, contingent models have emerged. They impulse a global philosophy and apprehend the project as a "nomadic" being. Positive, predominantly constructivist, they advocate leadership, synchronized collaboration, participatory governance and direct the efforts of project stakeholders towards continuous improvement in the complex reality created by the project ecosystem. Depending on the characteristics described above, one should expect that there will be more success when applying the two management approaches in the same project of technology transfer and innovation. Is this the case? If not, why some innovation projects succeed and others not while they are executed in the same ecosystem? How to increase the conditions for overall success of all innovation projects carried out in the same landscape as the consortium of universities and research institutes in Chad? Based on two innovation projects carried out by the consortium of universities in Chad, through a mixed strategy, structured by 21 interviews and 248 surveys, we have shown that, quantitatively, the management success and organizational success of a innovation projects are generated by the effectiveness of management and benefits management practices (beta = 0.54), within an effective governance framework (beta = 0.28). Also, the organizational culture of stakeholders (beta = 0.107) and the specific context (beta = 0.14) are constituents that have favored organizational success and the process of acquiring useful knowledge. Qualitatively, if the projects of innovation, carried mainly by the stakeholders, this could be explained by the style of transformational leadership deployed by the project manager but also the skill of the steering committee and the project teams. Thus, while some innovation projects are successful, this is due, in the main, to the optimal application and hybridization of best practices from universal approaches and instruments borrowed from contingent models. Therefore, to increase the overall level of success, the quality of the governance system and management practices should be continuously implemented and improved by adapting them to the specific context of the innovation project. However, it should be noted that the results generated are interpreted taking into account the limitations attached to the methodology, variables (items) and indicators that operationalize the four constructs of the proposed model. Also, a contingent universal approach seems preferable to apprehend the scope of the overall success of innovation project.

Download or read book Management de l innovation written by Sandrine Fernez-Walch and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Street Addressing and the Management of Cities

Download or read book Street Addressing and the Management of Cities written by Catherine Farvacque-Vitkovi? and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2005 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been a dramatic demographic shift from rural areas to cities in sub-Saharan African countries over the last few decades. This continuing urbanisation trend has created new challenges for local governments in terms of managing urban services, since over half of the city streets in these countries have no names or addresses, and the problem is particularly acute in the poorest neighbourhoods. This publication examines the use of street addressing initiatives to address this problem, giving information on current and future applications, considering examples of use in many African countries, and setting out a methodological guide for implementing such initiatives.

Book Governing Africa s Forests in a Globalized World

Download or read book Governing Africa s Forests in a Globalized World written by Laura Anne German and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2009-12-01 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many countries around the world are engaged in decentralization processes, and most African countries face serious problems with forest governance, from benefits sharing to illegality and sustainable forest management. This book summarizes experiences to date on the extent and nature of decentralization and its outcomes - most of which suggest an underperformance of governance reforms - and explores the viability of different governance instruments in the context of weak governance and expanding commercial pressures over forests. Findings are grouped into two thematic areas: decentralization, livelihoods and sustainable forest management; and international trade, finance and forest sector governance reforms. The authors examine diverse forces shaping the forest sector, including the theory and practice of decentralization, usurpation of authority, corruption and illegality, inequitable patterns of benefits capture and expansion of international trade in timber and carbon credits, and discuss related outcomes on livelihoods, forest condition and equity. The book builds on earlier volumes exploring different dimensions of decentralization and perspectives from other world regions, and distills dimensions of forest governance that are both unique to Africa and representative of broader global patterns. The authors ground their analysis in relevant theory while drawing out implications of their findings for policy and practice.

Book Modeling and Practice of Erosion and Sediment Transport under Change

Download or read book Modeling and Practice of Erosion and Sediment Transport under Change written by Mohamed Meddi and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-09-17 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climate and anthropogenic changes impact the conditions of erosion and sediment transport in rivers. Rainfall variability and, in many places, the increase of rainfall intensity have a direct impact on rainfall erosivity. Increasing changes in demography have led to the acceleration of land cover changes in natural areas, as well as in cultivated areas, and, sometimes, in degraded areas and desertified landscapes. These anthropogenized landscapes are more sensitive to erosion. On the other hand, the increase in the number of dams in watersheds traps a great portion of sediment fluxes, which do not reach the sea in the same amount, nor at the same quality, with consequences on coastal geomorphodynamics. This book is dedicated to studies on sediment fluxes from continental areas to coastal areas, as well as observation, modeling, and impact analysis at different scales from watershed slopes to the outputs of large river basins. This book is concentrated on a number of keywords: “erosion” and “sediment transport”, “model” and “practice”, and “change”. The keywords are briefly discussed with respect to the relevant literature. The contributions in this book address observations and models based on laboratory and field data, allowing researchers to make use of such resources in practice under changing conditions.

Book Food security and nutrition in the age of climate change

Download or read book Food security and nutrition in the age of climate change written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2018-10-17 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After steadily declining for over a decade, global hunger is on the rise again, while various forms of malnutrition coexist. Climate change is already exacerbating this grim picture, which is why food security and food production will be a major focus of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s 6th Assessment Cycle. Thanks to the participation of 250 experts from all around the world, the International Symposium on Food Security and Nutrition in the Age of Climate Change highlighted the importance of food and agricultural systems in the fight against climate change and presented concrete multi-sector solutions to address this global issue. The event placed special emphasis on the regional realities of West Africa and the Canadian North, as well as to the presence of young people and members of Indigenous and Northern communities directly affected by these issues. The summaries of these four days of plenaries, interactive workshops, and special events have been grouped under seven major themes for this publication: 1) Climate change, food security and nutrition: the issues; (2) The agriculture sectors in the context of climate change; (3) Food systems in the face of climate change; (4) Natural resources: challenges and solutions; (5) Food security and nutrition in a changing North; (6) Summary of solutions; (7) Strengthening and adapting regional and international cooperation.
