Book Dynamics of Self Determination in Palestine

Download or read book Dynamics of Self Determination in Palestine written by Waart and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-10-11 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Arab-Israeli conflict has become an example of total disregard for international law by all parties involved, including the United Nations, to the detriment of a regional and global lasting peace. The conflict has contributed considerably to the erosion of the moral and legal authority of the United Nations, while the international community has failed to take prompt advantage of the East-West detente. Peoples with statehood — the Iraqis, Somalis, Yugoslavs — and even more those without — the Palestinians — paid a high price for the international lack of decisiveness. Dynamics of Self-Determination in Palestine discusses the Palestinian conflict in the light of the protection of peoples under international law. Chapter One treats the fact that the Arab states and the Palestinians have overlooked the element of negotiation in the keeping of international order, Chapter Two discusses the International Bill of Rights, in which the UN included self-determination in order to protect peoples against oppression, while Chapter Three expounds on the fact that, in doing so, it shaped the framework for the settlement of conflicting territorial claims to Palestine. The final chapter sets forth the desired UN participation in the creation of Palestine.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The quest for an inclusive and independent state has been at the center of the Palestinian national struggle for a very long time. This book critically reexamines this quest by exploring the meaning of Palestinian statehood and the challenges that face alternative models to it today. Rethinking Statehood in Palestine gives prominence to a young set of diverse Palestinian scholars, both men and women, to show how notions of citizenship, sovereignty, and nationhood are being currently rethought within the broader context of decolonization. Bringing forth critical and multifacetted engagements with what Palestinian self-determination entails within a larger regional context, this groundbreaking book sets the terms of debate for the future of Palestine beyond partition"--

Book The Rejection of Palestinian Self Determination

Download or read book The Rejection of Palestinian Self Determination written by Jeremy R. Hammond and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2009-11-08 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Rejection of Palestinian Self-Determination is an overview of the crucial period from the rise of the Zionist movement until the creation of the state of Israel, examining how the seeds of the continuing conflict in the Middle East between Jews and Arabs were sown during this time. It sets out to show, by examining principle historical documents and placing key events in proper context, that the root of today's conflict is the rejection of the right to self-determination for the Arab Palestinians. Book Self Determination in the Palestine Context

Download or read book Self Determination in the Palestine Context written by John Bernard Quigley and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The conflict between Hamas and the PLO-affiliated Palestinian parties has raised anew the question of self-determination, and what it means in regard to the conflicting claims to territory in Israel/Palestine. Self-determination emerged as a concept in the international community in the early twentieth century. Whether it remained a political idea only, or whether it became solidified as a norm of international law has been contested. The better side of this argument is that self-determination became accepted as a legal norm, through recognition of it by states and by international organizations.
