Book Dynamics of Mechanical Systems with Variable Mass

Download or read book Dynamics of Mechanical Systems with Variable Mass written by Hans Irschik and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-16 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents up-to-date and unifying formulations for treating dynamics of different types of mechanical systems with variable mass. The starting point is overview of the continuum mechanics relations of balance and jump for open systems from which extended Lagrange and Hamiltonian formulations are derived. Corresponding approaches are stated at the level of analytical mechanics with emphasis on systems with a position-dependent mass and at the level of structural mechanics. Special emphasis is laid upon axially moving structures like belts and chains and on pipes with an axial flow of fluid. Constitutive relations in the dynamics of systems with variable mass are studied with particular reference to modeling of multi-component mixtures. The dynamics of machines with a variable mass are treated in detail and conservation laws and the stability of motion will be analyzed. Novel finite element formulations for open systems in coupled fluid and structural dynamics are presented.

Book Dynamics of Bodies with Time Variable Mass

Download or read book Dynamics of Bodies with Time Variable Mass written by Livija Cveticanin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-31 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the problem of dynamics of bodies with time-variable mass and moment of inertia. Mass addition and mass separation from the body are treated. Both aspects of mass variation, continual and discontinual, are considered. Dynamic properties of the body are obtained applying principles of classical dynamics and also analytical mechanics. Advantages and disadvantages of both approaches are discussed. Dynamics of constant body is adopted, and the characteristics of the mass variation of the body is included. Special attention is given to the influence of the reactive force and the reactive torque. The vibration of the body with variable mass is presented. One and two degrees of freedom oscillators with variable mass are discussed. Rotors and the Van der Pol oscillator with variable mass are displayed. The chaotic motion of bodies with variable mass is discussed too. To support learning, some solved practical problems are included.

Book Strongly Nonlinear Oscillators

Download or read book Strongly Nonlinear Oscillators written by Livija Cveticanin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-05-22 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the presentation of the motion of pure nonlinear oscillatory systems and various solution procedures which give the approximate solutions of the strong nonlinear oscillator equations. The book presents the original author’s method for the analytical solution procedure of the pure nonlinear oscillator system. After an introduction, the physical explanation of the pure nonlinearity and of the pure nonlinear oscillator is given. The analytical solution for free and forced vibrations of the one-degree-of-freedom strong nonlinear system with constant and time variable parameter is considered. Special attention is given to the one and two mass oscillatory systems with two-degrees-of-freedom. The criteria for the deterministic chaos in ideal and non-ideal pure nonlinear oscillators are derived analytically. The method for suppressing chaos is developed. Important problems are discussed in didactic exercises. The book is self-consistent and suitable as a textbook for students and also for professionals and engineers who apply these techniques to the field of nonlinear oscillations.

Book On the Rotational Dynamics of Variable Mass Systems

Download or read book On the Rotational Dynamics of Variable Mass Systems written by Angadh Nanjangud and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation examines the rotational (or attitude) dynamics of variable mass systems. In the context of this study, a variable mass system comprises a rigid base and a fluid phase delimited by a massless porous shell. The mass variability is accounted for by allowing the rigid part to be consumable and the fluid phase to enter and/or exit the region of interest through the shell. The document begins by providing a brief historical perspective on the developments in attitude dynamics of variable mass systems, a relatively young field in the context of classical mechanics, mostly motivated by interest in spaceflight. This introduction is followed by examinations of general variable mass systems and proceeds onto torque-free variable mass cylinders. The first of two chapters dedicated to the general variable mass system presents an approach to derive its equation of attitude motion. This discussion is followed by a mathematical proof of directional conservation of the variable mass system's angular momentum vector in the absence of external moments. This result is utilized, in the subsequent chapter, to visually interpretthe rotation of a torque-free, axisymmetric variable mass cylinder. The approach and results presented here strongly parallel the discussions on geometry of motion of axisymmetric rigid bodies found in classic texts on mechanics. The penultimate chapter, preceding the summary of the dissertation and direction for future work, presents an algorithm to estimatethe angular speeds of nearly axisymmetric variable mass cylinders. The variable mass cylinder idealization has historically been useful for gaining insight into the rotational behaviour of rockets.

Book Dynamics of Cyclic Machines

Download or read book Dynamics of Cyclic Machines written by Iosif Vulfson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-14 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the methods of dynamic analysis and synthesis of machines, comprising of cyclic action mechanisms, such as linkages, cams, steppers, etc. It presents the modern methods of oscillation analysis in machines, including cyclic action mechanisms (linkage, cam, stepper, etc.). Thus, it builds a bridge between the classic theory of oscillations and its practical application in the dynamic problems for cyclic machines. The author take into account that, in the process of training engineers for jobs in engineering industries, producing cyclic machines, insufficient attention is paid, until now, to the problems of dynamic and especially to oscillations.

Book Fundamentals of Kinematics and Dynamics of Machines and Mechanisms

Download or read book Fundamentals of Kinematics and Dynamics of Machines and Mechanisms written by Oleg Vinogradov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-07-25 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of the kinematics and dynamics of machines lies at the very core of a mechanical engineering background. Although tremendous advances have been made in the computational and design tools now available, little has changed in the way the subject is presented, both in the classroom and in professional references. Fundamentals of Kinematics and Dynamics of Machines and Mechanisms brings the subject alive and current. The author's careful integration of Mathematica software gives readers a chance to perform symbolic analysis, to plot the results, and most importantly, to animate the motion. They get to "play" with the mechanism parameters and immediately see their effects. The downloadable resources contain Mathematica-based programs for suggested design projects. As useful as Mathematica is, however, a tool should not interfere with but enhance one's grasp of the concepts and the development of analytical skills. The author ensures this with his emphasis on the understanding and application of basic theoretical principles, unified approach to the analysis of planar mechanisms, and introduction to vibrations and rotordynamics.

Book Dynamics of Machinery

Download or read book Dynamics of Machinery written by Hans Dresig and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-07-27 with total page 553 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamic loads and undesired oscillations increase with higher speed of machines. At the same time, industrial safety standards require better vibration reduction. This book covers model generation, parameter identification, balancing of mechanisms, torsional and bending vibrations, vibration isolation, and the dynamic behavior of drives and machine frames as complex systems. Typical dynamic effects, such as the gyroscopic effect, damping and absorption, shocks, resonances of higher order, nonlinear and self-excited vibrations are explained using practical examples. These include manipulators, flywheels, gears, mechanisms, motors, rotors, hammers, block foundations, presses, high speed spindles, cranes, and belts. Various design features, which influence the dynamic behavior, are described. The book includes 60 exercises with detailed solutions. The substantial benefit of this "Dynamics of Machinery" lies in the combination of theory and practical applications and the numerous descriptive examples based on real-world data. The book addresses graduate students as well as engineers.

Book Mechanical System Dynamics

Download or read book Mechanical System Dynamics written by Friedrich Pfeiffer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-27 with total page 587 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mechanics as a fundamental science in Physics and in Engineering deals with interactions of forces resulting in motion and deformation of material bodies. Similar to other sciences Mechanics serves in the world of Physics and in that of Engineering in a di?erent way, in spite of many and increasing inter- pendencies. Machines and mechanisms are for physicists tools for cognition and research, for engineers they are the objectives of research, according to a famous statement of the Frankfurt physicist and biologist Friedrich Dessauer. Physicists apply machines to support their questions to Nature with the goal of new insights into our physical world. Engineers apply physical knowledge to support the realization process of their ideas and their intuition. Physics is an analytical Science searching for answers to questions concerning the world around us. Engineering is a synthetic Science, where the physical and ma- ematical fundamentals play the role of a kind of reinsurance with respect to a really functioning and e?ciently operating machine. Engineering is also an iterative Science resulting in typical long-time evolutions of their products, but also in terms of the relatively short-time developments of improving an existing product or in developing a new one. Every physical or mathematical Science has to face these properties by developing on their side new methods, new practice-proved algorithms up to new fundamentals adaptable to new technological developments. This is as a matter of fact also true for the ?eld of Mechanics.
