Book Dynamics for Beginners Classic Reprint

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Dynamics for BeginnersI have adopted a suggestion, - due I believe to Mr Hayward, of Harrow School - that the first part of the book should treat exclusively of Linear Dynamics; thus avoiding, at the beginning of the' subject, all purely geometrical difficulties. It will be found that, with the exception of one or two Articles, Sections I. And IV. (which may be read separately, and in which the fundamental Principles of Dynamics are explained) demand only a know ledge of Simple Equations in Algebra. In no case is any greater knowledge on the part of the Student assumed, than is denoted by Progressions in Algebra, the Trigonometry of one Angle, and (in Chapters IX. And X.) the Parabola.I have ventured to suggest names for the units of velocity and acceleration, the use of which will be found to simplify considerably the language of the subject.I should be greatly obliged to those who may make use of the book if they would point out any defects or obscurities in the text or would offer suggestions for its improvement.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Mechanics for Beginners Vol 1

Download or read book Mechanics for Beginners Vol 1 written by John Bascombe Lock and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-19 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mechanics for Beginners, Vol. 1: Dynamics and Statics The Static Theory of Parallel Forces is deduced very' simply from the Theory of Moments by the consideration of a system of parallel forces as a particular case of forces meeting at a point. A combination of Morin's and Atwood's machines which I have suggested on p. 46 will I think be found useful by way of illustration. The chapter on the Pendulum is abbreviated from the latest edition (1891) of my Dynamics. I may mention that in view of the publication of this book, the scope of my Dynamics has been some what enlarged in the latest edition by the addition of a chapter on Simple Harmonic Motion and the Pen dulum, of some articles on Units and other minor points. The Dynamical portion of the book is treated in a manner so different to that which has of late been customary in elementary text-books that I venture to ask Teachers and others who may use the book kindly to favor me with suggestions or criticisms. Of the value of this method Of treating the subject as an introduction to the study of Mechanics I have received the very highest testimony from many Teachers - but there must be in a new book of this kind many details capable of improvement and many faults of omission besides other defects. Any communication on the subject will be gratefully acknowledged by myself or by the Publishers. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Dynamics Classic Reprint

Download or read book Dynamics Classic Reprint written by Horace Lamb and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-29 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Dynamics This book is a sequel to a treatise on Statics published a little more than a year ago, and has a similar scope. To avoid repetitions, numerous references to the former volume are made. A writer who undertakes to explain the elements of Dynamics has the choice, either to follow one or other of the traditional methods which, however effectual from a practical point of view, are open to criticism on logical grounds, or else to adopt a treatment so abstract that it is likely to bewilder rather than to assist the student who looks to learn something about the behaviour of actual bodies which he can see and handle. There is no doubt as to which is the proper course in a work like the present; and I have not hesitated to follow the method adopted by Maxwell, in his Matter and Motion, which forms, I think, the best elementary introduction to the absolute system of Dynamics. Some account of the more abstract, if more logical, way of looking at dynamical questions is, however, given in its proper place, which is at the end, rather than at the beginning of the book. There is some latitude of judgment as to the order in which the different parts of the subject should be taken. To many students it is more important that they should gain, as soon as possible, some power of dealing with the simpler questions of 'rigid' Dynamics, than that they should master the more intricate problems of 'central forces, ' or of motion under various laws of resistance. This consideration has dictated the arrangement here adopted, but as the later chapters are largely independent of one another, they may be read in a different order without inconvenience. Book Lessons in Elementary Dynamics Classic Reprint

Download or read book Lessons in Elementary Dynamics Classic Reprint written by Henry George Madan and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lessons in Elementary Dynamics It seems to be pretty generally agreed that some branch of Physics should form an early, if not the very earliest part of a scientific education, involving, as it does, an examination of those general and fundamental properties which all kinds of matter possess to a greater or less extent and by which we recognise things as being forms of matter. Of the various branches into which Physics is divided. Mechanics has an undoubted claim to the first place, from the simplicity and exactness of its laws, the readiness with which they can be demonstrated, and the multitude of practical illustrations of them which meet us on every side in the ordinary movements of life, in games, and in work. The study of Chemistry or of Electricity may be more amusing and attractive on account of the brilliant experiments associated with it, but the exact explanation of chemical and electrical phenomena is far less easy and far less certain than that of mechanical laws, and is, indeed, hardly within the grasp of minds previously untrained in scientific methods and ideas. An endeavour is made in this book to explain some of the properties of matter, Newtons Laws of Motion, and the modern conceptions of Energy and Work, in such a manner as involves only the most elementary knowledge of mathematics. Book Classical Dynamics A Modern Perspective

Download or read book Classical Dynamics A Modern Perspective written by E C George Sudarshan and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2015-10-08 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classical dynamics is traditionally treated as an early stage in the development of physics, a stage that has long been superseded by more ambitious theories. Here, in this book, classical dynamics is treated as a subject on its own as well as a research frontier. Incorporating insights gained over the past several decades, the essential principles of classical dynamics are presented, while demonstrating that a number of key results originally considered only in the context of quantum theory and particle physics, have their foundations in classical dynamics.Graduate students in physics and practicing physicists will welcome the present approach to classical dynamics that encompasses systems of particles, free and interacting fields, and coupled systems. Lie groups and Lie algebras are incorporated at a basic level and are used in describing space-time symmetry groups. There is an extensive discussion on constrained systems, Dirac brackets and their geometrical interpretation. The Lie-algebraic description of dynamical systems is discussed in detail, and Poisson brackets are developed as a realization of Lie brackets. Other topics include treatments of classical spin, elementary relativistic systems in the classical context, irreducible realizations of the Galileo and Poincaré groups, and hydrodynamics as a Galilean field theory. Students will also find that this approach that deals with problems of manifest covariance, the no-interaction theorem in Hamiltonian mechanics and the structure of action-at-a-distance theories provides all the essential preparatory groundwork for a passage to quantum field theory. This reprinting of the original text published in 1974 is a testimony to the vitality of the contents that has remained relevant over nearly half a century.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elementary Dynamics: A d104-Book for Engineers Those who have had experience in teaching elementary dynamics to students of Engineering will agree that the majority find considerable difficulty in grasping the fundamental principles on which the subject is based. There are new physical quantities to be understood, and new principles to be accepted which can only be expressed in terms of these quantities. Unfortunately, in many cases, this subject has to be introduced at a stage of development in mathematics at which the student expects some proof of what he is told to believe. He is not so prepared to accept things without proof as he was when first told that 2 x 3 = 6. Even at that early stage, probably an attempt was made to prove to him that 2 x 3 = 6, yet, in the end, he merely accepted the fact and memorised it. The author believes that the difficulty experienced is partly, though by no means entirely, due to the way the subject is often presented. In the student's mind it is associated with branches of pure mathematics such as trigonometry, analytical geometry, or infinitesimal calculus, and he is inclined to think that salvation lies in memorising a number of formulae which are to be used in solving problems, instead of looking upon dynamics as a fundamental branch of physical science, in which mathematics is of secondary importance and the physical ideas of primary importance. Quite commonly in elementary text-books, the second law of motion is at first summed up in the form, force = mass x acceleration, and the student is then given a number of examples to work out, most of which consist in substituting numbers in a formula. This very successfully disguises the true meaning of momentum, and the extraordinary generality of the second law of motion. The same applies to problems dealing with motion. The student is generally presented with certain formulae for motion involving a constant acceleration. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Dynamics of Rotation: An Elementary Introduction to Rigid Dynamics Many students of Physics or Engineering, who from want either of mathematical aptitude, or of sufficient training in the methods of analytical solid geometry, are unable to follow the works of mathematical writers on Rigid Dynamics, must have felt disappointed, after master ing so much of the Dynamics of a Particle as is given in the excellent and widely-used text-books of Loney, or Garnett, or Lock, to find that they have been obliged, after all, to stop short of the point at which their know ledge could be of appreciable practical use to them, and that the explanation of any of the phenomena exhibited by rotating or oscillating rigid bodies, so interesting and obviously important, was still beyond their reach. The aim of this little book is to help such students to make the most of what they have already learnt, and to carry their instruction to the point of practical utility. Book Classical Dynamics of Particles and Systems

Download or read book Classical Dynamics of Particles and Systems written by Jerry B. Marion and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 593 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classical Dynamics of Particles and Systems presents a modern and reasonably complete account of the classical mechanics of particles, systems of particles, and rigid bodies for physics students at the advanced undergraduate level. The book aims to present a modern treatment of classical mechanical systems in such a way that the transition to the quantum theory of physics can be made with the least possible difficulty; to acquaint the student with new mathematical techniques and provide sufficient practice in solving problems; and to impart to the student some degree of sophistication in handling both the formalism of the theory and the operational technique of problem solving. Vector methods are developed in the first two chapters and are used throughout the book. Other chapters cover the fundamentals of Newtonian mechanics, the special theory of relativity, gravitational attraction and potentials, oscillatory motion, Lagrangian and Hamiltonian dynamics, central-force motion, two-particle collisions, and the wave equation.
