Book Blends of Natural Rubber

Download or read book Blends of Natural Rubber written by K.C. Jones and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blends of natural rubber with speciality synthetic rubbers, such as nitrile rubber and ethylene propylene rubbers, have, in the past, failed to combine the best properties of polymers, resulting in a poor return in terms of added value from the blending process. The idea of blending synthetic rubbers with natural rubbe is certainly not a new one, but it is only now that this can be shown to be possible with consistently positive resluts, but eh use of novel techniques which this book describes, giving valuable information on the technology required and the results which can be achieved. Blends of Natural Rubber is an invaluable source of information for all those working in the area of rubber technology and polymer blend technology.

Book Preliminary Evaluation of the Properties of Dynamically Vulcanised Thermoplastic Rubbers

Download or read book Preliminary Evaluation of the Properties of Dynamically Vulcanised Thermoplastic Rubbers written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents work on five types of dynamically vulcanized thermoplastic rubber blends made from chlorobutyl and nitrile rubbers and polypropylene, nylon 12, and PPT resins. The project objective was to establish a correlation between blend composition and properties such as microstructure swelling index, tensile strength, elongation at break, hardness, and resistance to penetration/reemission of chemical warfare agents. The method of blend preparation and materials testing was described. Results were reviewed and conclusions were drawn. The results confirm that dynamic vulcanization can produce a variety of rubber plastic blends, many with elastomeric properties. Both rubber and plastic phases seems to be affected during the dynamic vulcanization process. Under exposure to solvents, both vulcanized rubber and rubber/plastic blends underwent a rapid approach to equilibrium swelling. It was found that swelling index values of blends were significantly less that the expected "theoretical" values, based strictly on composition in the blend. This was attributed to a caging effect of the thermoplastic phase on the rubber phase at the higher thermoplastic composition. In blends of rubber and thermoplastic, the minimum elongation at break seems to be reached at phase inversion. With respect to re-emission values for the five blends systems studied, from best to worst, the order is PA/CIIR> PP/CIIR> PA/NBR> PP/NBR> PBT/NBR. Selected results were presented during the IUPAC International Polymer Congress in Paris (July 4-8, 2004). Overheads from the presentation are enclosed with report.

Book Toughening of Polypropylene with Recycled Tire rubber

Download or read book Toughening of Polypropylene with Recycled Tire rubber written by Sukunya Juikham and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The immiscible blends of recycled tire rubber, ither reclaimied tire-rubber or ground rubber tire and homolypropylene had been investigated. TGA demonstrated that reclaimed tire-rubber was the miscible mixture of devulcanized natural rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber and butadiene rubber, wheres ground rubber tire was the mixture of vulcanized natural rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber and butadiene robber. These blends were prepated by melt-mixing in two consecutive machines, firstly a two-roll mill and then a counter-rotating twin screw extruder. Two types of crosslinking agents, sulfur with other additives or maleic anhydride and dicumyl peroxide, were added into the blend during milling. After injection to the impact specimens, they were subjected to the measurement for their notch-lzod impact strength. In addition, the melt flow index, thermal properties and surface mprphology of these blends were also observed. It was found that homopolypropylene/ground rubber tire blends, with three different mesh sizes of ground rubber tire, at the ration of 70/30 had similar impact strength which were slightly higher than homopolypropylene. However, it was observed that homopolypropylene/ground rubber rubber tire blend, containing ground rubber tire with mwsh size of 40, exhibited the highest impact strength for both vulcanization using sulfur crosslinking agent and non-vulcanization. In case of homopolypropylene/reclaimed tire-rubber blends, various ratios, i.e., 80/20, 70/30, and 60/40 were attempted both with vulcanization using sulfur crosslinking agent and without vulcanization. The homopolypropylene/reclaimed tire-rubber blends at 70/30 had highest impact strength for both vulcanized and non-vulcanized blends. When maleic anhydride/dicumyl peroxide was used, it was found that higher impact strength of the hompolypropylene/reclaimed tire-rubber blend at 70/30 was obtained. This could be attributed to the cohesion the polymer chains in each phase, homopolypropylene phase and ruber phase, and the interfacial adhesion between homopolyropylene and reclaimed tire-rubber chains in these two phases. Such phenomena would lead to good dispersion and distribution of reclaimed tire-rubber in homopolypropylene matrix as clearly exhibited in their scanning electron micrograhs.
