Book DYNAMIC TESTS ON HIGH STRENGTH STEEL

Download or read book DYNAMIC TESTS ON HIGH STRENGTH STEEL written by W. L. COWELL and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results of tension tests on specimens machined from a specially fabricated high strength reinforcing steel are presented. Yield stress of the steel was determined over a range of strain rates from the static value of 7 x 10 to the -6th power in./in./sec up to a maximum dynamic strain rate of 0.375 in./in./sec. The % increase in yield stress for a given dynamic strain rate is computed from the ratio of the yield stress obtained at the dynamic rate to that obtained at the static rate. The % increase in dynamic yield stress for the high strength steel is lower than that previously reported for conventional reinforcing steels. Compared with static test results, the dynamic loading on high strength steel resulted in little increase in ultimate strength and no discernible change in reduction in area or in percent elongation at rupture. Dynamic tests were conducted on two types of machines hydraulic and pneumatic - to provide information about the operating characteristics of the machines. This information was used to formulate the specifications for a dynamic testing machine.

Book Dynamic J R Curve Testing of a High Strength Steel Using the Key Curve and Multispecimen Techniques

Download or read book Dynamic J R Curve Testing of a High Strength Steel Using the Key Curve and Multispecimen Techniques written by JA. Joyce and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: J-integral R-curve tests were performed on three-point bend specimens of a 3-Ni steel at three loading rates: quasi-static, intermediate (25 mm/s), and drop tower (2.54 m/s). The key curve and multispecimen procedures were employed for the higher rate tests; this investigation is focused primarily on details of the test method development. The multispecimen and key curve techniques were found to yield upper shelf J-R curves which were in substantial agreement at the elevated loading rates. Numerical smoothing techniques required to apply a key curve method appear to separate the oscillatory high frequency component from the load-displacement record. For the 3-Ni steel tested for this investigation both JIc and T were found to be elevated with increasing loading rate.

Book Advanced High Strength Steel And Press Hardening Proceedings Of The 4th International Conference On Advanced High Strength Steel And Press Hardening Ichsu2018

Download or read book Advanced High Strength Steel And Press Hardening Proceedings Of The 4th International Conference On Advanced High Strength Steel And Press Hardening Ichsu2018 written by Yisheng Zhang and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2018-12-18 with total page 631 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The automotive industry requirements for vehicle weight reduction, weight containment, improved part functionality and passenger safety have resulted in the increased use of steel grades with a fully martensitic microstructure. These steel grades are essential to improve the anti-intrusion resistance of automotive body parts and the related passenger safety during car collisions. Standard advanced high strength steel (AHSS) grades are notoriously difficult to be formed by cold stamping; they are characterized by elastic springback, poor stretch flangeability and low hole expansion ratios. Hot stamping has therefore received much attention recently as an alternative technology to produce AHSS automotive parts. In this book, selected articles from the Fourth International Conference on Advanced High Strength Steel and Press Hardening held on August 20-22th, 2018 in Hefei, China, are compiled. It focuses on AHSS for the development of press hardening of high performance sheet metal for lightweight vehicle, advanced digital manufacturing technology, as well as the physical metallurgy principles of the hot stamping process.Aiming at the process design and industrial application for hot stamping of press hardened steel and high strength aluminium alloy sheet, the effect of temperature and strain rate on the formability and mechanical properties of the products is discussed. In addition, more practical cases are provided concerning accurate modelling and multi-physics coupling simulation of the hot stamping process. Furthermore, the influence of tool design on forming process, more precise process control strategies to increase production efficiency, and the improvement of hot stamping equipment by advanced design methods will also be presented.

Book Dynamic Tests on Selected Structural Steels

Download or read book Dynamic Tests on Selected Structural Steels written by W. L. Cowell and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamic tension tests and static tension tests were conducted on four grades of structural steels. The steels conform to ASTM grades A36, A242, A441, and A572. Stress-strain curves are presented for each steel at various strain rates, ranging from static to about 1.5 in./in./sec. While all steels showed an increase in yield stress with increasing strain rates, the A36 steel showed the greatest increase. Design recommendations are given for structural steels subjected to high strain rates. Additional specimens were strain aged, and stress-strain curves were obtained for both dynamic and static tests. Of the strain-aged steels, only the A36 steel showed a significant increase in strength over the non-strain-aged steels, when loaded dynamically. No adverse effects of strain aging were noted on any of the steels. (Author).
