Book Dynamic Scheduling of Hard Real time Applications in Open Systems Environment

Download or read book Dynamic Scheduling of Hard Real time Applications in Open Systems Environment written by Zhong Deng and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "This paper focuses on the problem of providing run- time support to real-time applications and non-real-time applications in an open system. It describes a two-level hierarchical priority-driven scheme for scheduling independently developed applications. The scheme allows the developer of each real-time application to validate the schedulability of the application independently of other applications. Once a real-time application is created and accepted by the open system, its schedulability is guaranteed regardless of the behaviors of other applications that execute concurrently in the system."

Book Real Time Systems Architecture Scheduling and Application

Download or read book Real Time Systems Architecture Scheduling and Application written by Dana Zelenko and published by . This book was released on 2016-10-01 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Real-time applications are used in daily operations, such as engine and break mechanisms in cars, traffic light and air-traffic control and heart beat and blood pressure monitoring. A real-time system is one that must process information and produce a response within a specified time, else risk severe consequences, including failure. That is, in a system with a real-time constraint it is no good to have the correct action or the correct answer after a certain deadline: it is either by the deadline or it is useless. Real-Time systems are becoming pervasive. In a Real-Time System the correctness of the system behavior depends not only on the logical results of the computations, but also on the physical instant at which these results are produced. Real-Time systems are classified from a number of viewpoints i.e. on factors outside the computer system and factors inside the computer system. Special emphasis is placed on hard and soft real-time systems. A missed deadline in hard real-time systems is catastrophic and in soft real-time systems it can lead to a significant loss. Hence predictability of the system behavior is the most important concern in these systems. Predictability is often achieved by either static or dynamic scheduling of real-time tasks to meet their deadlines. Static scheduling makes scheduling decisions at compile time and is off-line. Dynamic scheduling is online and uses schedulabilty test to determine whether a set of tasks can meet their deadlines. Real-Time Systems, Architecture, Scheduling, and Application present varied aspects of real-time systems with architecture, specification and verification, scheduling and real world applications. It is convenient for advanced graduate students and researchers in comprehensive disciplines impacted by embedded computing and software. Subsequently the book emphasizes the most modern advances in real-time systems and communications networks; it serves as a vehicle for technology transition within the real-time systems community of systems architects, designers, technologists, and system analysts.

Book Active Real Time and Temporal Database Systems

Download or read book Active Real Time and Temporal Database Systems written by Sten F. Andler and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-06-26 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Database systems of the next generation are likely to be inherently very complex due to the diversity of requirements placed on them. Incorporating active, real time, and temporal virtues in one database system is an arduous effort but is also a commend able one. This book presents the proceedings of the Second International Workshop on Active, Real Time, and Temporal Database Systems (ARTDB 97), held in Como, Milan, in September 1997. The aim of the workshop was to bring researchers together from the active and real time research communities, and to examine the current state of the art in active, real time, and temporal database systems. This book offers a collection of papers presented at the ARTDB 97 workshop. The papers, many of them representing proficient and tenable results, illuminate the feasibility of building database system supporting reactive behavior, while enforcing timeliness and predictability. The book contains nine papers carefully reviewed and accepted by the program committee, three invited papers written by prominent researchers in the field, and two summaries of the panel discussions held at the workshop. The program committee received seventeen submissions, where each submission was reviewed by at least three program committee members. The two panel sessions focused on predictability issues and on practical experience of active, real time, and temporal database systems. The ARTDB 97 workshop was held in cooperation with the IEEE Technical Committees on Real Time Systems and Complexity in Computing, and the ACM Special Interest Group on Manipulation of Data.

Book Soft Real Time Systems Predictability vs Efficiency

Download or read book Soft Real Time Systems Predictability vs Efficiency written by Giorgio C Buttazzo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-07-02 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hard real-time systems are very predictable, but not sufficiently flexible to adapt to dynamic situations. They are built under pessimistic assumptions to cope with worst-case scenarios, so they often waste resources. Soft real-time systems are built to reduce resource consumption, tolerate overloads and adapt to system changes. They are also more suited to novel applications of real-time technology, such as multimedia systems, monitoring apparatuses, telecommunication networks, mobile robotics, virtual reality, and interactive computer games. This unique monograph provides concrete methods for building flexible, predictable soft real-time systems, in order to optimize resources and reduce costs. It is an invaluable reference for developers, as well as researchers and students in Computer Science.
