Book Dynamic Response of Strip Footing on Elastic plastic Soil

Download or read book Dynamic Response of Strip Footing on Elastic plastic Soil written by Kaare Hoeg and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report describes a numerical procedure for predicting the dynamic response of strip footings on saturated, clay soils. Unlike existing analyses, the computational procedure includes elastic deformations as well as deformations during contained plastic flow. Very satisfactory agreement was found between predicted results and experimental data provided by the U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station. The study examines the effects of several different variables on the peak displacement of the footing. The results clearly show the influence of load pulse duration and applied peak intensity. They illustrate that for a nonstrain-rate sensitive soil, a footing cannot carry any transient load in excess of the static bearing capacity, unless the pulse duration is very short or large plastic displacements are accepted. The report includes recommendations for future extensions of this work.

Book Wave Propagation in Solid and Porous Half Space Media

Download or read book Wave Propagation in Solid and Porous Half Space Media written by Hamid R. Hamidzadeh and published by Springer Science & Business. This book was released on 2014-04-26 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers advanced topics in dynamic modeling of soil-foundation interaction, as well as the response of elastic semi-infinite media from an applications viewpoint. Advanced concepts such as solutions for analysis of elastic semi-infinite mediums, fluid motion in porous media, and nonlinearities in dynamic behavior are explained in great detail. Related theories and numerical analysis for vertical vibration, and rocking vibration of a rigid rectangular mass-less plate, and horizontal vibration of a rigid mass-less plate are presented. Throughout the book, a strong emphasis is placed on applications, and a laboratory model for elastic half-space medium is provided.

Download or read book Practical Soil Dynamics written by Milutin Srbulov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-17 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this book is to fill some of the gaps in the existing engineering codes and standards related to soil dynamics, concerning issues in earthquake engineering and ground vibrations, by using formulas and hand calculators. The usefulness and accuracy of the simple analyses are demonstrated by their implementation to the case histories available in the literature. Ideally, the users of the volume will be able to comment on the analyses as well as provide more case histories of simple considerations by publishing their results in a number of international journals and conferences. The ultimate aim is to extend the existing codes and standards by adding new widely accepted analyses in engineering practice. The following topics have been considered in this volume: • main ground motion sources and properties • typical ground motions, recording, ground investigations and testing • soil properties used in simple analyses • fast sliding in non-liquefied soil • flow of liquefied sandy soil • massive retaining walls • slender retaining walls • shallow foundations • piled foundations • tunnels, vertical shafts and pipelines • ground vibration caused by industry. Audience: This book is of interest to geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists, earthquake engineers and students
