Book Dynamic Properties of Pine Flat Dam

Download or read book Dynamic Properties of Pine Flat Dam written by Dixon Rea and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamic tests were undertaken to determine if the equipment that had been used to test other structures would have sufficient power to excite measurable vibrations in a concrete gravity dam and to determine as much about the dynamic properties of the dam as the existing equipment would permit. Two series of tests at different water levels were performed. Measurements of dynamic water pressure in the reservoir were attempted. The results of the dynamic tests on Pine Flat Dam were used to check the accuracy of two mathematical models of the dam. Comparisons are made between the dynamic properties of the mathematical model and the experimentally determined properties of the Pine Flat Dam. (Modified author abstract).

Book Numerical Analysis of Dams

Download or read book Numerical Analysis of Dams written by Gabriella Bolzon and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-18 with total page 899 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers contributions from the 15th ICOLD Benchmark Workshop on Numerical Analysis of Dams. The workshop provided an opportunity for engineers, researchers and operators to present and exchange their experiences and the latest advances in numerical modelling in the context of the design, performance and monitoring of dams. Covering various aspects of computer analysis tools and safety assessment criteria, and their development over recent decades, the book is a valuable reference resource for those in the engineering community involved in the safety, planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of dams.

Book Earthquake Engineering for Concrete Dams

Download or read book Earthquake Engineering for Concrete Dams written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1991-02-01 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hazard posed by large dams has long been known. Although no concrete dam has failed as a result of earthquake activity, there have been instances of significant damage. Concerns about the seismic safety of concrete dams have been growing recently because the population at risk in locations downstream of major dams continues to expand and because the seismic design concepts in use at the time most existing dams were built were inadequate. In this book, the committee evaluates current knowledge about the earthquake performance of concrete dams, including procedures for investigating the seismic safety of such structures. Earthquake Engineering for Concrete Dams specifically informs researchers about state-of-the-art earthquake analysis of concrete dams and identifies subject areas where additional knowledge is needed.

Book Nonlinear Earthquake Response of Concrete Gravity Dams

Download or read book Nonlinear Earthquake Response of Concrete Gravity Dams written by N. Pal and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A mathematical model is proposed for the mechanical properties -- constitutive relation and strength -- of concrete subject to dynamic cyclic reversible stresses and strains that may occur in gravity dams subjected to earthquake ground motion. The model describes properties of concrete under a two-dimensional state of stress. The effects of strain rate -- the time rate of change of strain -- on the mechanical properties are incorporated in the model. Experimental results available in the literature form the basis for the proposed model. A method is developed for nonlinear analysis of response of concrete gravity dams to earthquake ground motion wherein mechanical properties of concrete are defined by the mathematical model mentioned above. Earthquake analyses reveal that cracking of concrete is confined to areas near the upstream and downstream faces of dams -- especially in the upper parts and in some cases also near the heel. The estimated cracking is very sensitive to the assumed tensile strength.
