Book Parameters Effecting the Dynamic Properties of a Saturated Cohesive Soil Tested in Cyclical Simple Shear

Download or read book Parameters Effecting the Dynamic Properties of a Saturated Cohesive Soil Tested in Cyclical Simple Shear written by William Kenneth Andrew (V) and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Cyclical simple shear tests were performed on block samples of a remolded clay mixture of 3 parts kaolinite to 1 part of bentonite mixed at 110% water content. The samples had base sizes of 8x8, 4x4, and 2x2 inches square and heights of 1, 2, 4, and 8 inches. The simple shear tests were performed by using a predetermined sinusoidal displacement, at frequencies of 1, 2, and 5 hertz. The shear modulus which was normalized by dividing it by the shear strength, and the hysteretic damping factor which was expressed as the percent of critical damping, were evaluated from a plot of the shear strain versus the shear stress relationship called a hysteresis loop. The modulus decreased as the shear strain and/or the number of cycles increased. It was not effected by the frequency. The modulus also decreased with increasing sample size. The difference between modulus values for different sample sizes decreased as the length to height ratio increased. The damping ratio which is also strain dependent increased with increasing strain, but decreased with increasing sample base size. The length to height ratio did not effect the damping ratio"--Abstract, leaf ii.

Book Soil Dynamics and Foundation Modeling

Download or read book Soil Dynamics and Foundation Modeling written by Junbo Jia and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-26 with total page 741 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive topical overview on soil dynamics and foundation modeling in offshore and earthquake engineering. The spectrum of topics include, but is not limited to, soil behavior, soil dynamics, earthquake site response analysis, soil liquefactions, as well as the modeling and assessment of shallow and deep foundations. The author provides the reader with both theory and practical applications, and thoroughly links the methodological approaches with engineering applications. The book also contains cutting-edge developments in offshore foundation engineering such as anchor piles, suction piles, pile torsion modeling, soil ageing effects and scour estimation. The target audience primarily comprises research experts and practitioners in the field of offshore engineering, but the book may also be beneficial for graduate students.

Book Soil Dynamics and Liquefaction

Download or read book Soil Dynamics and Liquefaction written by A.S. Cakmak and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-04-11 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite advances in the field of geotechnical earthquake engineering, earthquakes continue to cause loss of life and property in one part of the world or another. The Third International Conference on Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey, USA, 22nd to 24th June 1987, provided an opportunity for participants from all over the world to share their expertise to enhance the role of mechanics and other disciplines as they relate to earthquake engineering. The edited proceedings of the conference are published in four volumes. This volume covers: Constitutive Relations in Soil Dynamics, Liquefaction of Soils, and Experimental Soil Dynamics. With its companion volumes, it is hoped that it will contribute to the further development of techniques, methods and innovative approaches in soil dynamics and earthquake engineering.
