Book Measurements and Interpretation of Dynamic Loads on Bridges

Download or read book Measurements and Interpretation of Dynamic Loads on Bridges written by European Communities and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last few decades, the traffic intensity and the wheel loads on bridges have increased considerably, resulting in fatigue cracks and repairs. Within the framework of research funded by the European Coal and Steel Community, several programmes have been carried out to investigate the traffic loads, the stresses they produce and the fatigue performance of various details. These programmes have been carried out by seven research institutes in six countries of the European Community. Especially in the programmes carried out now, the experimental research has been carried out in combination with numerical and analytical studies to obtain better insight into the stress distribution of the various connections in steel orthotropic bridge decks with closed longitudinal stiffeners. This report highlights the Dutch results obtained in the fourth phase research. The research programme includes a survey on existing bridges in the Netherlands to obtain information about the different detailing in the orthotropic deck plate and the fatigue behaviour of the details. Based on available research results, it appeared to be necessary to perform some full-scale fatigue tests on the longitudinal stiffener splice joint to improve the detail and to obtain information about repairing this detail. Fatigue design curves have been defined for the longitudinal stiffener splice joint as well as the longitunal stiffener to deck plate connection. For the latter, no additional experiments were needed. Experimental as well as numerical research on the longitudinal stiffener to crossbeam connection has been carried out to improve the knowledge of the different types of detail.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 28 (thesis year 1 983) a total of 10,661 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 197 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 28 reports theses submitted in-1983, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Abnormal Loading on Structures

Download or read book Abnormal Loading on Structures written by K. S. Virdi and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-04-27 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designing for hazardous and abnormal loads has become an important requirement in the design process of most major buildings and civil engineering structures, ranging from tall buildings to bridges, power plants to harbour and coastal installations. This state-of-the-art volume was compiled by the Institution of Structural Engineers' informal study group Model Analysis as a Design Tool and City University's Structures Research Centre. It contains a series of papers on the design and analysis of structures through full scale and numerical modelling including the crucial areas of hazard identification and risk assessment of structures. This book will be essential reading for civil and structural engineers, designers and researchers.

Book Finite Element Analysis and Design of Steel and Steel Concrete Composite Bridges

Download or read book Finite Element Analysis and Design of Steel and Steel Concrete Composite Bridges written by Ehab Ellobody and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2023-01-25 with total page 722 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition of Finite Element Analysis and Design of Steel and Steel-Concrete Composite Bridges is brought fully up-to-date and provides structural engineers, academics, practitioners, and researchers with a detailed, robust, and comprehensive combined finite modeling and design approach. The book’s eight chapters begin with an overview of the various forms of modern steel and steel-concrete composite bridges, current design codes (American, British, and Eurocodes), nonlinear material behavior of the bridge components, and applied loads and stability of steel and steel-concrete composite bridges. This is followed by self-contained chapters concerning design examples of steel and steel-concrete composite bridge components as well as finite element modeling of the bridges and their components. The final chapter focuses on finite element analysis and the design of composite highway bridges with profiled steel sheeting. This volume will serve as a valuable reference source addressing the issues, problems, challenges, and questions on how to enhance the design of steel and steel-concrete composite bridges, including highway bridges with profiled steel sheeting, using finite element modeling techniques. Provides all necessary information to understand relevant terminologies and finite element modeling for steel and composite bridges Discusses new designs and materials used in highway and railway bridge Illustrates how to relate the design guidelines and finite element modeling based on internal forces and nominal stresses Explains what should be the consistent approach when developing nonlinear finite element analysis for steel and composite bridges Contains extensive case studies on combining finite element analysis with design for steel and steel-concrete composite bridges, including highway bridges with profiled steel sheeting
