Book Modeling of a Fluidized Bed Combustor with Immersed Tubes

Download or read book Modeling of a Fluidized Bed Combustor with Immersed Tubes written by S. C. Saxena and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress is reported in the development of a mathematical model of a fluidized-bed combustor. The model will include coal combustion phenomena and will incorporate basic mass transport relationships, bubble mechanics, heat transfer and configuration effects. A cold model test bed will be designed, constructed and operated to generate data in support of the effort in developing the mathematical model. In particular, experiments will provide data concerning heat transfer effects of tubes and tube bundles in fluidized beds, bubble formation, dispersion etc. Experiments have been carried out to measure the total heat transfer coefficient between 12.7 mm diameter copper tubes with different surface roughness and glass beads of different sizes. The comparison of results for the rough and technically smooth tubes revealed that the heat transfer coefficient strongly depends on the ratio of pitch (P) to particle diameter anti d/sub p/). By the proper choice of this ratio, P/anti d/sub p/, the total maximum heat transfer coefficient could be increased by as much as 40% over the value for a smooth tube with the same outside diameter. However, if P/anti d/sub p/ ratio is less than unity, the maximum heat transfer coefficient for rough tube is smaller as compared to the smooth tube. The design of the two end plates of the fluidized bed for mounting tube bundles of varying configuration and pitches has been completed and is currently under fabrication in the departmental workshop.

Book Fundamentals and Technology of Combustion

Download or read book Fundamentals and Technology of Combustion written by F El-Mahallawy and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-07-10 with total page 863 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals and Technology of Combustion contains brief descriptions of combustion fundamental processes, followed by an extensive survey of the combustion research technology. It also includes mathematical combustion modeling of the processes covering mainly premixed and diffusion flames, where many chemical and physical processes compete in complex ways, for both laminar and turbulent flows. The combustion chemistry models that validate experimental data for different fuels are sufficiently accurate to allow confident predictions of the flame characteristics. This illustrates a unique bridge between combustion fundamentals and combustion technology, which provides a valuable technical reference for many engineers and scientists. Moreover, the book gives the reader sufficient background of basic engineering sciences such as chemistry, thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics. The combustion research and mathematical models fit between small-scale laboratory burner flames, and large-scale industrial boilers, furnaces and combustion chambers. The materials have been collected from previous relevant research and some selected papers of the authors and co-workers, which have been presented mainly in different refereed journals, international conferences and symposia, thus providing a comprehensive collection. Furthermore, the book includes some of the many recent general correlations for the characteristics of laminar, turbulent, premixed and diffusion flames in an easily usable form. The authors believe that further progress in optimizing combustion performance and reducing polluting emissions can only be treated through understanding of combustion chemistry.

Book Fluidized Bed Combustion

Download or read book Fluidized Bed Combustion written by Simeon Oka and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-09-16 with total page 620 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A realization of recent clean energy initiatives, fluidized bed combustion (FBC) has quickly won industry preference due to its ability to burn materials as diverse as low-grade coals, biomass, and industrial and municipal waste. Fluidized Bed Combustion catalogs the fundamental physical and chemical processes required of bubbling fluidized beds before launching into application-centered coverage of hot-gas generator, incinerator, and boiler concepts and design, calculations for regime parameters and dimensions, and all aspects of FBC operation. It enumerates the environmental consequences of fluidized bed processes and proposes measures to reduce the formation of harmful emissions.

Book Atmospheric Fluidized Bed Coal Combustion

Download or read book Atmospheric Fluidized Bed Coal Combustion written by M. Valk and published by Elsevier Science & Technology. This book was released on 1995 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of fluidized bed coal combustion technology has been developed in the past decade in The Netherlands with a view to expanding the industrial use of coal as an energy supply. Various research groups from universities, institutes for applied science and from boiler industries participated and contributed to this research area. Comprehensive results of such recent experimentation and development work on atmospheric fluidized bed combustion of coal are covered in this volume. Each chapter, written by an expert, treats one specific subject and gives both the theoretical background as well as experimental results and verifications.Though the contents deal primarily with coal combustion, much information proved applicable and relevant for the combustion or incineration of other solid fuels and waste in a fluidized bed. Results of extended research and fundamental backgrounds are presented in order to provide the designer and operator of fluidized bed combustors with more complete and systematic information needed for an optimal design and operation. The design and operating experience of a full scale fluidized bed boiler are discussed and compared with the results of theoretical and experimental research on pilot plant scale.
